This was a special trip out on our Anniversary to get a preview look at the new Indian Motorcycle exhibit, that will be open in October. Well, my gosh, was it impressive! Motorcycle Porn!
The exhibit is going in a building that hilights businesses from the Springfield area. I know, bore. However, the Indian exhibit is mostly done, and it is incredible. Tons of spectacular bikes, laid out nicely, with terrific backstories, and graphics...The docent on duty was really informative, as well.
We poked through some of the other halls, and buildings, and of course, checked out the Dr. Seuss National Site. Pretty impressive for a small city museum complex. Fine Arts, Dinos, a pretty impressive collection of Japanese armor, neat old buildings....I dug it.
I went here last winter and had a blast!
Admission was extremely inexpensive and the museum was large enough to spend a good chunk of the day there. The staff were very friendly including in the gift shop. I went while there were robotic dinosaurs on display and that was a lot of fun, too. A very fun time for a very small amount of money. Yay!
I visited this place on a Monday so the museum section was closed, but I didn't go there for the museum. I went there for the Dr. Seuss Statue Garden and it did not disappoint.
The statues are set up in the quadrangle of museums. All of the familiar and essential Dr. Seuss characters are there in brass form including the Seuss man himself.
The only fault that I found was that all of the statues are clumped together except for the Lorax. It would've been nicer to walk around and be able to reflect on each book or spend time with that one statue, but I will say that the statues, while together, were spread out enough in that section so that you could immerse yourself in the world of Dr. Seuss.
This is a really nice place to visit with it's cluster of museums. A couple of the museums were closed for renovation at the time, but I didn't feel like I missed anything as I had plenty to do. The Dr. Seuss statues are lovely to walk around and view as well! They had lovely decorated benches in the gardens as well which were unique. I drove an hour to get here and have to say it was worth the drive and would visit again.
