We haven't been to Sonic in a few years because it was terrible last time, but this location was outstanding today. The carhop/window attendant were both friendly and the food was great this time. Best cherry limeade I've ever had.

They definitely changed ownership or management here recently because it has been phenomenal! Food is actually delicious, HOT, and brought out quickly. Drinks taste top tier. Servers are very kind as well and attentive.
Normally wouldn't crave sonic but this location has definitely changed the way we look at Sonic and in the best way! 10/10Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Niaya M.Austin, TX037Dec 31, 2022
Earlier tonight, I went to this sonic to pick up a mobile order. Now, they are notoriously slow at this one. After the meal said it was coming out, it took another 10 minutes before it actually came. They handed me my blast covered in stickers. I didn't think much of it. When I got home, I realized why. The cup was full of holes and they'd used them to hide it instead of just putting it in another cup. They're beyond lazy there. Don't go to this one.

I decided to try the app, so I ordered a chicken sandwich while I was driving by. Not only was it a long wait; i was given a chicken that appears to have been sitting in a bin for a long time; it was also very over-cooked & as dry as chicken jerky.
Would you believe they gave me 9 sauces? I didn't ask for 9, but I needed a napkin from splurging on those sauces to undry my chicken... ugh they no napkin in the bag. :(Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Roy N.TX, TX0255Jun 3, 2022
I have been to a few Sonic Drive-Ins with varying levels of competence, but today, I was very pleased when we visited this one in Helotes. We actually pulled in around 9:15, not knowing they don't open 'till 10:00. After deciding what we wanted to drink, we pushed the button and were immediately answered...she said they weren't open until 10:00 AM, but she could still make us some drinks anyway! And she gave us the half-price deal on our slushies! She said sh3 "likes to take care of her customers." How can we not like a place like that?

I want to like this location, I really do, but they sure make it hard. Excessive wait times and inaccurate orders plague every visit. They get our business because they are close to my house and take app orders later than other locations, which are plusses. But it always looks like they have one car hop at any given time (that's how it appears anyway) who is overwhelmed by the amount of business - I feel bad for the employees. The drive thru experience is clunky and odd with no drive-thru window and seemingly no logical assemblage of the orders. You'll be asked if 5 different orders are yours as they walk up and down the 2 lanes of cars trying to find the correct customer for the order they are trying to deliver. Then, if you're lucky enough to get your order sooner than later, you're stuck behind the plethora of vehicles ahead of you in 2 tight lanes because no one ever pulls up to the sign (it seems awkward to do so since the employee has to walk so far back and forth, so people just park near the door). Also, the employee has to take your payment all the way back into the store, which causes even more of a delay, versus having a quick card reader on hand like most other drive thru restaurants have. I imagine turnover is pretty poor here based on what we see - get these folks some more help.
When I look on Yelp at other locations, I see much of the same for area Sonics. Not sure if the Sonic franchise is going down as a whole or what is happening. Their Sonic Blasts are delicious - but are they worth the wait and frustration? I wish I could give a better rating, but cannot in good conscience.
The good news is a couple miles up the street near the intersection of 1560 and Shaenfield there is a Sonic location that has better service, but they close a little earlier than this location.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Debbie L.Natalia, TX29141292May 12, 2022
I was thirsty and wanting a cold drink on a hot day. I got a Cherry limeade slush & it hit the spot. After that it went downhill! I ordered Jumbo popcorn chicken. I don't know if they meant the package was jumbo or the chicken was supposed to be but it was dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp and the majority of the pieces of chicken were small. I ordered onion rings - my favorite sonic food; they were out of onion rings. The tots I got were fine and my spouse's chili cheese dog was good. There were 4 cars in the stalls at 1:30 on a Tuesday & I think 2 of the cars were employee's since no one was inside. Very disappointed.

Even though we waited for the food longer than expected, the food was very delicious . I had the chicken tenders which we very juicy and cooked well . The person I was with got the wrong burger and shake but it was still tasty. The server was very sweet and attentive although it was from the drive in . Thank you sonic for a job well done ! Consider this location !

This Sonic is fast food that is slower than any of the sit down restaurants in Helotes. Looking through the windows, you will be greeted with half of the staff standing around in conversation. Order a drink and you will wait 40 minutes. Pay with cash... good luck in getting your change.
