At Sneed's, our goal is to educate customers on the importance of sustainable gardening practices and organic product choices. We are committed to fostering relationships within the community from the ground up. Sneed's recognizes our responsibility to be stewards of our environment, and we strive to share that information with our customers. We offer organic foods and solutions that work with nature to grow healthy and beautiful gardens, preserve our natural resources, and make Richmond healthy for present and future generations. This focus on organics and sustainable gardening practices is what drives us every day. In January of 2008 we eliminated synthetic fertilizers and pesticides from our shelves. Education is a key component of our mission and focus. We offer classes on topics ranging from bee keeping and natives to growing hops and snake identification. Ultimately, our current focus is on the people and families that are in our community and encouraging responsible practices for a healthier environment.

This place is pretty much a drag.
Staff members are aloof, disinterested and sour, undoubtedly due to bad management. Customers are oddly unpleasant and hard to be around, and am not sure why, as plants should make for a pleasant shopping experience, but not here. Still overpriced, as it has been for many years. The plant displays are cramped, the parking lot is cramped, and you take your life in your hands trying to get in and out of the place, which is situated on a very busy Huguenot Rd.
Great Big Greenhouse is a better bet.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2022
We always have such a cheerful experience visiting Sneed's- Today was no different. I was greeted by Cricket the cat who welcomed me with several friendly meows. As I wandered the enchanting little pocket of garden goodness, there was so much holiday cheer to be found that I hardly knew where to start. Luckily all of the folks working here are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I spent a good amount of time in the various huts that had all kinds of gifts, decor, fresh cut flowers, dried flowers to arrange yourself, and just about any gardening tool that one might need. We have visited this location for every season except winter and I am delighted to report that they had all the goods needed for a wonderful winter time. You can find all shapes and sizes of trees, wreaths, ropes, swag, and twinkly lights to put on them!
Definitely check the spot out before this season gets away from you-- enjoy th magic!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I wasn't sure what to expect because I had never been to this nursery before. I was blown away by the set up and the amount of different types of plants they had here. It is definitely a different experience than going to a typical nursery it is so cute and well curated. There were several staff around that I'm sure would have been super willing to answer any questions. I was able to walk around and check out the different sections. I really appreciated that they had a whole section dedicated to native plants for this area, which is some thing I am really into.
So glad I now know about Snead's and look forward to returning for all of my gardening and plant needs.
They even have someone directing cars in case the parking situation gets tight (it wasn't when I was there).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paris L.Richmond, VA1032Dec 10, 2022
My hubby and I were Christmas tree shopping today. We went to another local garden supply shop before Sneed's and didn't love the options we saw there, so we went to Sneed's. They had friendly associates, a good selection of plants, and a really nice fire pit where you can warm up while looking around.
The trees they had were BEAUTIFUL!! Better than the first place we looked... but BE WARNED they cost waaaay too much. The cheapest trees they had looked like Charlie Brown trees that they called "Old fashioned" or white pine trees that they were sold out of (go figure). And when I say cheap, I mean $45-60. The 4-5' Frazier firs were all at least $110 and the 6' trees were $130! Most of the selection we were looking at (6-7') were $160... that's double what we would have liked to pay. It was no wonder their selection was so nice! No one wanted to buy their pricey Frazier firs!
We went to Lowe's where they had a plethora of beautiful 7-8' trees for $80! Sadly, we could not support local today, but we did end up with a lovely 8' tree!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Paris! I am glad to hear that you were able to have what sounds like a really great experience here at Sneed's with the customer service and ambience. Nothing beats a warm fire on a chilly day!
I would like to apologize for your sticker shock but also take a moment to explain why our trees cost more than the ones that you found at Lowe's. Sneed's is a small, independent garden center with just this one location. We don't have an ounce of the buying power that a place like Lowe's or other box stores have. I purchase 1200 trees a year where as your box store probably brings in over a million trees nationally. That's a lot of buying power with room to negotiate tree costs. I get my trees from a grower in North Carolina that I have been buying from for 20 plus years. On top of the tree shortage due to the economic down turn of 2009/10 (many tree farms went out of business), growers have had to deal with astronomic price increases in fertilizer, pest prevention, and everything else that goes into growing healthy, happy trees. That coupled with insane freight charges, resulted in tree costs that were higher than we have ever seen.
Please know if you had decided to buy your tree here, you would have been supporting the local economy. When you shop small businesses, more of your money stays in the community.
Again, I appreciate the kind words and hope that we are able to serve you better in the future. - Kate H.Tuckahoe, VA06Nov 27, 2023
Some people bar hop we go to garden centers. Everyone was so courteous and helpful. What a beautiful Christmas section you all have. We coming back on Thursday, because I foolishly left my wallet at home so I couldn't buy anything but we will be back.

Sneed's is a little, indie nursery that I've long since followed on Insta (Because I only follow locally owned, independent/small businesses), but just never got around to checking out. During the very end of summer, I decided to check out their vegetable seeds, so I drove out.
Firstly, Sneed's IS small--but there's a LOT packed into the small space! If you have kids, bringing them to Sneed's may prove more amusing to them than Strange's, as Sneed's has free range chickens! There are about four and are obviously used to having free reign in the garden.
As a heads up, they ALSO have a bee apiary. If you are afraid of or allergic, or your child is, be wary around the discounted plant area, where their hive is at the very back. While there, the bees didn't interact with me or anyone I saw.
I'll definitely be going back to Sneed's!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Paula...It is because of folks like you that we are open for business! We love the love we receive from our neighbors and community. The chickens and Cricket the cat are also very appreciative of the love. Kids love to look for all of the critters here. And you are right about the apiary...be aware, but not afraid. The bees have no interest in the humans and I have gotten right in the midst of them to take photos without incident. They are so fascinating to observe!
Thanks again for the review...we look forward to having you back! - Vig V.Allentown, PA34Mar 13, 2023

I recently went to Sneed's on the recommendation of a friend, as I'm still relatively new to the Richmond area. What a treat!! I bought a beautiful Christmas wreath, some fresh greenery, and a Christmas cactus. The woman who cut the greenery for me was very nice, and I loved looking around the indoor shop where there are lots of beautiful ornaments and Christmas decorations.
It's a bit pricey but I liked supporting a local business, plus I liked how festive it felt there.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Botany plants lately??? I have bought quite a few over the years from Sneeds Nursery. It's quaint cottage feel keeps me coming back. I look forward to coming and walking around looking at all the beautiful things they have to offer. A wide variety of plants, vegetables, trees, shrubs, soils, fertilizers, pots, and mulch mulch more. Yep I told you this place was kinda a big Dill.
What's the white stuff on my phlox ? My iris leaves are turning yellow ... why??? Why won't the blooms on my Camilla open??? Don't get your Pansies in a bunch Jessica has the plant-swers. Helping to keep all your flowers blooming and free from pesty insect.
When it comes to your garden put your best root forward and head on over to Sneed's. Your neighbors will all be green with envy!!!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

I absolutely loved this nursery! I came here for the first time when I was on that side of town for another errand and happened to pass it. On my way home, I made sure to turn into Sneed's so I could check it out. I had the best time wandering around with my daughter! This nursery is so whimsical and serene. The play house by the shaded plants would have been a dream for me as a kid. The inside gift shop had interesting items at every turn. I spent at least 30 minutes in there making mental lists of items I wanted to come back and buy. Everyone I encountered was extremely nice and helpful. I am a plant novice, so I really need guidance in these situations. They were happy to point me in the right direction and I left with two tried and true plant babies: a snake plant and ZZ plant.
The little houses with gardening supplies, happy employees, close parking lot, and cute and cozy corners made this worth the drive for me. I pass a couple of other nurseries to get here, and I generally hate crossing the river, but I will from now on to go to Sneed's!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information
