Too bad to hear The Smokehouse closed. My roommate made an arrangement with John to create a special "gift certificate" to allow us to stay in the cabin, and he presented the certificate to my wife and I as wedding gift back in 2003. Sadly, just one year later, my roomate passed away at a young age due to colon cancer. I had always hoped to cash in the gift certificate and enjoy the stay with my wife in honor of his generosity, but never seemed to get around to it. Now sadly it seems that won't be possible. So it goes. My roommate had a particularly high opinion of the mead John made. I hope they decide to make another go of it. For some reason, it seems to be a challenge to make a business fly in the Sperryville area, as witnessed by the frequent openings and closings of restaurtants in town. I guess they just lack the traffic to keep businesses afloat.

Mead is an unusual taste, but if you like it, John has some of the best I've come across. The local area views are stunning. all in all a good experience. Come by for one of his informal "concerts". a good time to be had by all.
