Handel's Homemade Ice Cream

First time at this location! Ordered the four sampler. I always get Graham Central station and lemon bar and this time tried two new flavors to me: New York Style Cheesecake and Brownie dough and the cheesecake was a little softer than the others but still good.

I could tell they all still seemed to be figuring out the flow of the store and traffic of customers. Scoops seemed to be a little smaller than the Avon location but still the same great flavor. Handels does it best!

This is my favorite hometown ice cream and I'm so happy for closer locations. I visited the new Rocky River store which opened today for some monkey business ice cream. Delicious!

GREAT ICE CREAM

Handel's ice cream started in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio and now has about 100 stores in multiple states. The ice cream sandwich was only $3.00. It was a large scoop of ice cream served between two GIANT Oreo cookies. You choose any flavor for the ice cream sandwich, they had a wide variety.

I wish I could give this place a higher rating but I left pretty disappointed. We went a few days after their public opening and the line was long, but fast. We waited about 10-ish minutes in line to be served -- not an issue. When it was our turn we ordered two items, a hot fudge sunday and a waffle cone. The guy helping us scoops were clearly half the size of his colleagues. When we brought this up he said it's because there a different waffle cone sizes, but he didn't ask us to specific a size, nor did we know. Anyways, his response still didn't address the inconsistencies with scooping sizes. He did comp us an extra scoop, so that was a nice way to rectify the situation. We also ordered a hot fudge Sunday and I was pretty disappointed. For the price, other neighboring ice cream parlors knock it out the park... but the hot fudge doesn't hit right for me... it's reminiscent of warmed chocolate syrup if anything. The ice cream consistency is great, but unfortunately a few too many cons vs. pros for me.

Stopped here last night for the first time and the line was long but service was fast and the ice cream was delicious!! Loved the brownie dough! Cannot wait to go stop again sometime.

Great ice cream with a multitude of flavors! Hard to decide on which ones to get. I definitely wish we had one close to where I live. Fortunately there is one near my parents house.

Best ice cream in the world! Very clean store and friendly service! They offered a great variety of flavors, I was surprised to see they even had some options for my friends who are vegan.

My boyfriend and I won free ice cream for the year because we waited in line at the grand opening. I have never left a review anywhere but after giving this ice cream 5 chances I feel like I need to warn people. This is the worst ice cream either of us have ever had. We keep saying each week it really tastes like they don't add milk or sugar to their ice cream. What is it made of then? It's a mystery. I sampled their lemon bar or lemon pie flavor (don't remember the name) and I'm telling you that there was no lemon flavor. My boyfriend said it is like the La Croix of ice cream. It's like you whispered lemon in the other room and that's the flavor. We tried the cotton candy flavor too and again, flavorless. The base of the Cookie Monster flavor is dark blue and looks like it would have an interesting flavor- it does not. The flavor is nothing. Anything with a vanilla base is so disappointing in flavor. My favorite so far is the chocolate PB brownie. I don't like chocolate ice cream ever and this one is perfect because it does NOT taste like chocolate! It is just a hint of chocolate and is very mild which is nice. That is the only plus I can give to them. It is not worth your money unless you literally drown it in fudge. We really wanted to like this place and the year of ice cream but it's just not good. I don't know how you can mess up ice cream this badly. So disappointing :( Sorry to grandma Handel!
