Used to love it but it's closed. Tried to get takeout recently and they are no longer there. Yelp should update the listing.

As a 5th generation San Diegan who knows her way around the restaurants in this town, you can believe me when I say this mecca of deliciousness is without debate my favorite eatery in the entire county. The owner is so sweet and always remembers me when I come in. She even let me sample the holy grail of off menu items - the crispy herbed rice ring that forms on the the bottom of the pan. It was like Mediterranean crack. This food is made from the heart with fresh ingredients and large proportions. The filet kabob is my go-to but I would eat anything and everything this woman cooked for me.

Jackpot! Did a Yelp search while grabbing a few things at Home Depot this weekend and Skewers Grill was a match.
After almost giving up cause we couldn't find it, we came to realize that this place was inside the Shell Gas Station & Carwash.
Very unassuming, but the food was delicious. We got the filet mignon skewers, seasoned rice and salad. It was very, very good. The rice, light, fluffy and full of flavor, with a hint of coconut. The salad was sort of greek style and very good and the steak was well seasoned, tender and delicious.
Football on the TV, cars working their way through the carwash and a great view of the various types of people that pop inside a gas station to pick up random stuff, cold 40's, lottery tickets, smokes, etc.
Friendly owner, and very nice young girl working the counter.
Gold mind of a find and I can't wait to go back.
$27 for two hearty plates of food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Lori W.Encinitas, CA075Mar 12, 2019
I stopped in at the Shell station to grab a drink and quick snack and noticed this grill. The chicken skewer was so tender and flavorful! And the hummus is literally the best hummus I've ever had in my life. She toasted the pita triangles on the grill for a quick second and OH MY GOSH, that just brought out the flavor of something as simple as pita, to a whole new level.
The owner Mary, is so sweet. She let me try a few other items on the menu. Definitely try this place, you'll be back. And she said they're on DoorDash, which is awesome!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sammi A.Encinitas, CA1421022Mar 30, 2016
I came here for my lunch break and ordered a chicken skewer + cucumber salad + white rice = 11.80. It was sooo good I told all my coworkers about it . And talked to my boyfriend about it that I had to order again today and bring some home.
This is where I was disappointed in the place.....
I ordered 3 chicken skewers and 3 beef skewers a la carte. And rice that comes with it , supposedly ! And 3 little containers of the cucumber salad ! Enough for my boyfriend and I that night for dinner. I walked in to pick my order and pay for it , the total he said after swiping my card was 69. 66 I was shocked ! I was like " wow" out load. I'm not one to complain since I work in customer service industry as well. So I just paid for it and gathered my food and left. Now I'm not too unreasonable but I would expect 40 or close to 50 ... But 70 dollars for what I ordered is crazy to me !
So my only warning is to be careful when ordering take out !Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Sammi thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you were disappointed in the pricing. All of our pricing is presently stated on the menu and website, although our location is a bit odd our food quality is top notch and we do not compromise in our quality we use the highest grade of raw material our margins are very little on filet kabobs I'm sure you have noticed when buying filets at the grocery the price is very high you also did order a quart of hummus which is off The
catering menu and is for 6 to 10 people normaly I think that is what drove the price up. That being said we want you to be happy with your experience at Skewers. If you enjoy our food please do come back and have a meal on us. Hope that helps and we are sorry to disappoint you. Please ask for Mary.

To think that I would recommend a gas station food place it would have to be pretty awesome and this food is just that. Authentic Persian food at it's best.
Amazing lunch or dinner while you get your car washed. Can't beat it!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

This is hands down the best gas station food I've ever had in my life. Ever. Yes, you read that correct GAS STATION. This place is inside the shell gas station. So this isn't the place for date night but makes for a good lunch.
I walked in and approached the counter to order, no one. There's a bell sitting there with the sign "ring bell for service" so I ring the Bell. No one. A shell gas station employee gets on the overhead paging system *customer waiting at the grill.* An employee scurries out of a back office. No smile or greeting just a stern "can I help you?".
So I placed my order for a salad, rice combo with chicken skewer. It was $11.80 with tax but then I had to process a second transaction at the shell gas station for the drink for a couple more $'s. Kinda pricey for a gas station grill.
I took a seat at the lovely dining area wedged between the bathroom corridor and the carwash. If you've ever wondered what the inner working of the carwash look like you will get a reaaal reaaal good view here. So close you can reach out and touch it, literally.
My food was served in a styrafoam to go container and although the server was standing 3 feet from me he called me over to get it myself. That's cool man you work behind the counter, you're not paid to walk the 5 extra steps. I get it.
The food was OUTSTANDING. I was seriously blown away. When I open the container the smell of dill and other herbs filled my nose and took me away to a Mediterranean land. The flavors in the food were very subtle, not overpowering and blended great together. The chicken was cook just right to provide a slight crisp grilled exterior and was nice and juicy. It tasted like it was brined and had a lemon juice marinade soaked through. Really tasty. The salad was a bed of green leaf lettuce, olives, feta, tomato all tossed homemade herbed vinaigrette.
I had to do an average to get this rating. It was a little tricky because of the disparity between service and food quality.
Food = 5+
Ambiance =2
Service = 2
Price = 3
That pulls in 3 stars BUT I seriously couldn't believe that something so good came out of a gas station so I rounded up to 4. I'd fo sho get it again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Sep 30, 2015
It's hard to decide between 4 and 5 stars on this one but I went with 5 based solely on the deliciousness of the food and friendliness of the owner. The price is a little bit on the pricey side but the servings are not dainty. Nestled inside a gas station, you would not consider this place as a very inviting venue but looked passed that and you have some extremely enjoyable Persian/Mediterranean food. It's an ideal place for take out for that quick persian food fix which is what I sought after but I decided to eat in to watch the cars being washed through the window and enjoy the low key/low maintenance style lunch.
The owner loves to offer samples of food to prove just how good her cooking is. I got sold on every item. I've tried the chicken which was very flavorful and juicy that came with a cucumber salad which was fresh and tasty. The ground beef was also very good and I had that with the herb basmati rice. I think the herb basmati rice alone is worth the trip! She gave a sample of the hummus with pita bread and it's probably the best hummus/pita combo I've ever had. If I wasn't so full I would've ordered more but that will have to wait another (very soon) day =)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
