Sista Food
Ordered Pulled Pork "slider" with Greens instead of fries and a soda. Total $16. There was plenty of pork on the bun. Guessing it was braised, it totally lacked any other flavor beside the pork. The sandwich had BBQ sauce on it, which helped the flavor as well as moisture. They called it "slider", but it was on a full sized bun, so not really a "slider". The greens were good.
A friend ordered the fried ribs. There was 3 ribs on the plate with 2 sides and corn bread. Total $15. My friend said the ribs were really good, but we both felt that $15 was not what they were worth.
Unfortunately, this is a one and done.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Barron W.Long Beach, CA1838243Mar 15, 2014
Since I heard about Sista Soul Food truck from a fellow foodie I was inclined to check it out. This weekend they were posted by Timeless Pints Brewing Co. so I dropped in. Ordered hamburger combo and "hot mess" pastrami. I figured ordering a burger from a food truck was a no brainer but really went to experience the "hot mess".
A "hot mess" pastrami is just that... Pastrami, chili (homemade), cheese and a beef/pork hot link in a French roll.
I chose not to eat at the location and drove 15 minutes home to enjoy my hot mess. Well... Although it was still warm once I arrived, it was not quite what I had expected. I've love chili cheese fries with pastrami so skipping the fries and adding a bun was the next best thing.
Bun - nice and soft
Pastrami - tender
Hot link - spicy
Chili - aka meat paste wt????
Needless to say it wasn't the greatest but has potential. Nice size, plenty meat (pastrami and link) but the homemade chili left a bad taste in my mouth; no pun intended. Not afraid to give them another shot... just will not include chili.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 3, 2015
Wasn't impressed!
This truck is one of the "regulars" near my job. Decided to stop by & all seemed well. I questioned the woman taking the orders/money on what she recommended (I assume that she was the owner). It was my first visit to the truck. She gave excellent suggestions. I wanted a chili-pastrami something, I asked if I could taste the chili (that she'd spoken highly of) and she flat out said "no samples".
If that's her policy, then that's her policy. I just thought that it was worth giving me a spoonful of chili to taste if it meant promoting your business & getting new customers.
Guess not. My party of seven left & went to the next truck.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 42510673381Apr 9, 2013First to Review
In front of DMH Vermont & 6th!! and I'm going to update my review because I cant' wait to try their pastrami french fries.. but for the Taco Tuesday.. It was 2 tacos I chose beef-which was seasoned nicely, plenty of fresh lettuce, tomato's and cheese with a side of pinto bean and dirty rice- not sure why they call it that but I have to be honest and say it tasted like a better version of those instant rice in box..... overall a fulfilling lunch for under $7.00 no drink included.. but the menu is different every day so I must eat and review some more.

OMG... their Coca Cola cake.
That's all I've tried at this food truck... but it was so good that it warrants like a million stars.
Best chocolate cake I've EVER had. Ever. I had a bite of their peach cobbler and it was really good too, but that Coca Cola cake... try it.
It's probably diabetes as fuck but who gives a shit. When you choose to walk up to a soul food truck you're throwing your healthy eating habits away.
I really want to try their other stuff... but I think I might just stick to the Coca Cola cake.
Plus, the lady was really nice!!!
One little con, I wanted greens and they ran out :( what kind of soul food anything runs out of greens???
But the Coca Cola cake makes up for it. Still.
pros - COCA COLA CAKE!!! nice people. big piece of coca cola cake for 3 bucks!
cons - ran out of greens. wtf?? other than that i got nothing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Dec 29, 2014
This truck was at a festival we were at and sounded really good. And the food was pretty good. The only problem was that it took over 30 minutes to get your food from the time you ordered. It was certainly a systemic problem as everyone was experiencing the same thing. There were a lot of people indeed, but not a ton that can be had at other festivals.
They were either short staffed, or have an inefficient process. Either way, they should have anticipated that and either let customers know it would be a long wait. I don't care how good or cheap it is, 30 minutes is way too long to wait for a food truck meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 20, 2014
Food truck outside the timeless pints bar. Nice idea. My son ordered the burger combo which was $9 with a can of coke. Fries were crispy and good, burger was HUGE on a brioche roll and the patty was nice size! Cooper finished the combo so he must have loved it! I asked other customers how the fried chicken was and they seemed to love it. I tasted the BBQ ribs and they were smokey and tender.
All in all I'd have to say these people have it going on when it comes to their food truck! If I see them again I would order a combo without hesitation.
If you find them out and about... give them a tryHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Evelyn O.Los Angeles, CA053Nov 18, 2014
Where do I start...
a couple of co-workers raved about how good this food was, and I just kept putting off till today. Honestly this is the BEST soul food I have ever had. I ordered the ribs with the hot link (sausage) with (2) sides for $13.00 which was very worth it. The cabbage and cheesy potatoes were outstanding.
I highly recommend (Sista Soul Food)!!! Excellent and quick service!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Wendy C.Los Angeles, CA7434121161Sep 19, 2014
Burger combo (with fries and can of soda) for $9 didn't sound bad. But the burger was bad. It was cooked thoroughly, but it was as though the patty had been frozen, defrosted, frozen again, etc, and was thrown onto the grill straight out of the freezer. It was quite an unpleasant burger. It just tasted so un-fresh. The bun was strange, too.
But the fries were good. I typically don't like crinkle cut fries, but the dash of pepper on them was a good touch.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
