When we first came here over 10 years ago there was a bold white horse in a corral.  He still remains in the tasting room proud above the mantel of a stone fireplace. If you love the jammy bold taste of wines come here Steve does a fantastic job.  The place is up on a bluff and you have to hunt it out to find it.  We love to sit at one of the sitting areas enjoy some cheese and fruit and Silver Horse Wine we love it there!!

Beautiful grounds and location! Lovely vistas, and really pretty grounds surrounding the main tasting room.  However, the fancy vibe sort of permeates the tasting room culture and it's a bit much....I didn't care for the customer service.

I have experienced better.  The woman working didn't properly honor the Yelp special they had advertised, and she acted like she was doing us a favor by waiving our tasting fee- which they would have waived anyway because we bought wine.  The website said %15 off your purchase if you mention Yelp, not a free taste, honey.  I didn't want to argue about it at the time, but now that I review the language, I think they should either take down that special, or honor it.

We did buy a delicious Spanish style white they had, but I wasn't a fan of any of their reds. I just don't care for the varietals they had, but they could delight others who like bolder reds.  In the future, I would come here with a picnic if they allow that, and drink a glass of wine out on the grounds rather than standing around inside. I'm sure it's a wonderful venue for events!

Let me first just say that this review has absolutely nothing to do with the wine. I don't like wine and it is unfair for me to judge based on that. They can't help that I am not a wine connoisseur, I would love to write a review about the body and taste and legs of a particular glass of wine that I enjoyed, however, the only wine I tasted just tasted like, well, wine...

The review I write is based on the beautiful views and the wonderful job done for the spectacular wedding I attended. The tasting room was lovely, and a nice hideaway from the heat before a breeze kicked in. The grounds were pretty and manicured. The open faced barn was a gorgeous spot for the dinner and reception. And the views of the sunset over the vineyard were incredible. I just kept telling my husband that we should get married again so we can do it here!

The wine is amazing but the gal pouring the wine was so rude. I would never go back there again. And would never buy a thing from her. She had Long brown hair with big eyes. She should be fired! Bad representation for a winery.

    Was this review …?

I can't speak fairly about the wine because this was the 4th place I'd hit that day and was getting ruined despite my efforts to the contrary.

The grounds and the tasting room are very cool.  They have a strong Inland California character that might be a bit off-putting to some, but, being an Inlander of a more southern extraction myself, I felt pretty at home here.  It's not your classic vineyardy, Better Homes & Gardens type of place.  It's fun, and the varieties were good.  The tasting girl was friendly and really like the words "darn" and "dang," in various forms.

We hit Silver Horse first, after reading about it in a magazine or two. It looked pretty enough, and more importantly, was close to the rental house.  Plus there was a picture in one of the magazines, of these 4 adorable Labrador dogs, whom we had to know more about.

We drove slowly up the hill to the tasting room, to take in the view. It really looks like a painting out there! The grounds were pretty, lush green, rolling hills of vineyards. There were 2 other groups there (each had four people) when we arrived, and the room is small, so they had occupied all of the inside seating. We started the tasting and wandered off between glasses. Jessica, our pourer, was nice enough, but didn't engage us at all. Everyone loved the Cabernet Sauvignon, but no one felt it was worth $40 a bottle.

So, two of my three stars are for the dogs, who were adorable! (They live there and just roam around the grounds, and were very sweet with everyone.) I especially loved Penny!

Silver Horse does have a great view and does have beautiful grounds.  This they do have.   Good wine...not really.  very average wine.    Is this a place to get married...NO!  We found out the hard way and got burnt.  We had to change wineries last minute due to Silver Horse and being lied to.  There are a ton of wineries to get married at in paso...I would stay away from this one.  There are a ton of other wineries in paso with great wine and beautiful scenery!

okay.....so this was back in January...I am so behind.

We stumbled upon a map with tons of wineries during our sporadic road trip.  I recognised J.Lohr.  I like J.Lohr and trying their reserves sounds delightful.  So as we were driving, we kept seeing signs for Silver Horse...so we decided we would go there first and back track.  It was amazing!  We had great service and a very education stop for our first winery in Paso Robles.  She gave so many great suggestions for wineries in the area that we didn't even make it to J.Lohr.  It started our journey all over the place.  It was super fun.  This location is beautiful.  Beautiful in the sense of...I wanna get married here!  I adored the reds.  They were so rich, full bodies, tasty, spicy...we left with Sage: Bordeaux 40% Malbec, 20% Petit Verdot, 20% Cab.  Yum Yum!!

This is one of the few wineries that has it hitting on all cylinders. The wines are typical BIG Paso wines. Great structure and fairly well balanced. Some are hotter than others but good wine to drink with your friends and family. The 2006 vintages are still developing but have great potential.

Stephen (the wine maker) is frequently in the tasting room pouring, talking, and kicking down the wine knowledge.

If you can pry a bottle of the Sage from them you would not be disappointed.

Overall I would recommend this as a place to measure your other experiences in the area.
