This was my first time at Shred 415 and I absolutely loved it! The staff is super helpful and extremely nice. The instructor of the class does very well with managing both parts of the class and even takes the time to help you individually to ensure you have proper form and that you push yourself even more!
Will definitely be coming back!
They have little booths where you can leave your stuff. Bathrooms for changing. They have towels there for you to use during class.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sean M.Chicago, IL5308Nov 28, 2021
I started Shred a little over 2 years ago, when my local gym closed up. I really was uncertain at what I was going to do to replace that. But Shred was in the neighborhood, and I had never tried it. Well I did, and since then I'm in much better shape than I ever was at the gym. Classes are fast paced, good music and instructors keep me coming back almost daily (ok daily). Its also a small business owned and operated here in Chicago. Give it a try!

So...cardio is so not my jam, which explains my initial aversion to all things Shred. Â I am so meh at cardio that I don't want to pay to have that thrown in my face, ya know? Â Anyways, I really had nothing to worry about, since all abilities are welcome here and you'll never be called out for being like me and running a full mile or two per hour behind the rest of the class, or hell, even slowing it down to a walk at times.
The format is simple - four 15 minute intervals, alternating between the treadmill and a deck/stepper/workout bench that has a bunch of weights stashed under it (no need to stress about grabbing weights before class!). Due to COVID you're already assigned a deck or tread to jump on before you arrive, and if you really want to be an overachiever, grab 4 wipes to wipe down your equipment between changes. Just know that when things go back to normal, people will murder you to get on the treadmill first, so if you're not in combat mode you might have to settle on the deck first, especially in a full class. Â On the treadmill you'll be clearly led through some intense intervals with varying speeds and inclines, and on the deck you'll rock whatever the theme of the class is that day (total body, arms & abs, or butt & legs). In terms of instructors, each has their own vibe, whether it be music or cues, but I've never had a bad class here.
Note: No lockers or locker rooms, and only one shower.
Pro Tip: Keep your eye on their schedule! Every so often they offer free classes when introducing new instructors ;)Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 141406899Jan 14, 2020
Thank you class pass for putting me on to fun workouts. Today I went to Shred's butt & legs class, because my goal is to be slim thick lol
Super friendly staff as soon as you walk in. I was checked in right away and given a quick tour of the studio. I immediately walked into class where Derrick came up to me to explain to me what the workout would be like. It was totally beginner friendly because you just work at your own pace following the instructions.
Class was 1 full hour of WORK with a stretch at the end.
I totally loved the workout and will definitely return!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jan 11, 2015
Shred415 has a cult-ish following and for good reason - the workout kicks ass. I've taken classes with several different instructors and they are all knowledgeable and run a tight ship (I'd imagine you can easily get tripped up instructing two different workouts, treadmill vs. floor).
The space itself is small and really narrow but when the lights get dimmed and the music is blaring, you know you're in for a session. I've never left a class without feeling like I gave it my all.
Just an observation but it seems like everyone in these classes are very fit and good looking so it feels good to be amongst this crowd whether I am or am not these things, lol.
Due to it's popularity, classes get filled up quickly. Each class has generally about 28 people? I agree with previous comments that the wait list and cancellation policy are a bit annoying. However, I understand that any spot not cancelled in advance deprives the numerous people on the wait list an opportunity to know they got into the class with some adequate notice.
I also noticed that people are weirdly territorial about starting on the treadmills first.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Julie M.Chicago, IL1268Oct 27, 2020Updated review
Continues to be 5 star in this not so fun Covid environment. Staff and customers are all doing a great job... still happy to have a workout outlet back in my life most mornings. Have been coming since they were given the greenlight to reopen this summer and couldn't be happier with the job everyone is doing here to keep us safe; fit; and sane during these crazy times. :)

I do miss the full classes- but so happy to be back at it. Everyone from desk to instructors is doing a great job making people feel comfortable getting back to work outs. Classes were cut to 45 mins, to allow for extra cleaning... but up to 50 mins now since they have gotten more efficient and used to all of the new processes. Thanks team Shred for showing up and getting us back :) you're all fab!

I discovered Shred on classpass. I was instantly hooked on the HIIT treadmill and weight segments (decks and treads as they call it). The hour long class is intense, but such an amazing workout. You can totally go at your own pace by choosing your running pace and weights. The music is super up beat and really keeps you going through the class.
They have 60 minute classes or 45 minute classes. The classes are not always the exact four 15 minutes segments which is nice because it changes up the class!
The instructor will talk to both groups at the same time (people on decks and people on treadmills) which can be a little confusing at first, but is easy to catch onto after a few classes.
Julie is the studio manager and is so helpful. Any questions I have she is alway quick to answer. I have become so obsessed with shred classes that I signed up for a neighborhood membership!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Leah E.Chicago, IL0177Oct 24, 2020
Didn't realize how much I missed this place until going back when it reopened!! So grateful to have a clean, safe place to work out, especially as it gets colder outside. Everything is completely wiped down and sanitized between classes and people are spaced out, in masks well over 6 feet a part. Plus, as always, everybody is so friendly and it's an amazing workout experience. Thank you Shred fam!

Shred is definitely one of the best workouts I've ever done. It is hard but it's also great that you can go at your own pace without feeling like you're falling behind. All the instructors are amazing and can put you through an intense workout. I like that all the classes are different and you never get bored. I highly recommend!

I have been a dedicated Shredder for the last 5 years, and it has not only changed my body but also my outlook on life. When I leave a Shred class I feel more strong, motivated and confident than when I walked into class. I thought I worked out hard on my own when I used to go to the gym, but I had no idea what my body could really do until I started Shredding. The instructors push, but in a good way. And they hire the best instructors. I love that it's dark in class, I love the music, I love the combination of weights and running, and I REALLY love all the instructors. Thank you for lifting me up on a daily basis Shred, and giving me the level of confidence and the strength I never thought would be possible.
