Do they fry in peanut oil? Is it safe for allergies?

      A:

Im not sure. Most restaurants move away from that because of allergies. Vegetable or soy or a blend is used alot. None of these are good for health. I usually just get the steamed juicy buns here

As of today, April 10, 2022, the restaurant remains in the take out/delivery service only format that started at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. Trust me and just pick up the food and eat it in your vehicle if you don't live close by because… more

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. It was not too busy. This was the first time I came here since they renovated. They don't really have a wait staff so you have to order from a touchscreen tablet.

We ordered the pork juicy buns, the pan fried pork buns, pork and vegetable wontons in spicy sauce, and wu's favorite topping over crispy noodles. We also ordered the sweet fermented rice and tofu for dessert but they accidentally gave us the rice balls in wine sauce so we got an extra free dessert!

Everything was good but if I'm being honest I thought the food was better before the renovations. The juicy pork buns were decent but the skin kept ripping. The pan fried pork buns were crisp and the meat inside was flavorful and tasty. The pork wontons in spicy sauce were always one of my favorite items. This time it was good but I feel like the portion size shrank and it was a little less flavorful than it used to be. Lastly the crispy noodles topped with their favorite topping was extremely disappointing. The crispy noodles did not taste fresh and the sauce didn't have much flavor.

For the desserts...both were very solid. The sweet fermented rice with tofu had just the right amount of sweetness and the fermented rice added a nice sourness that made it different and addicting. The sweet rice balls in wine sauce Aldi had the right amount of sweetness. The rice balls were perfectly tender and also had bits of fermented rice in the sauce.

Overall I enjoyed the food but was expecting it to be as good as it was before. I would've gave it 3 stars but the server working that night was very friendly and made up for giving us the wrong dessert.

I haven't been writing reviews as often anymore, but HAD to after coming here yesterday. It is definitely overrated and disappointing. Having tried many XLB spots, I do feel like I can tell when it's good or bad/not authentic.

We ordered many things to try: the pork XLB, crab and pork XLB, shrimp hargow dumplings, pan fried pork dumpling, spicy cold beef appetizer and the yellow croaker noodle soup.

The XLB are not authentic and disappointing. Yes there was soup but the skin had a slimy soft texture that isn't what you'll find in an authentic XLB spot (or in Shanghai). They were oddly large, and tasted like frozen XLB you can buy at the supermarket. The yellow croaker noodle soup was $15.50 and very fishy. Had to drench it in hot sauce to make it edible. The noodles had a good texture but the broth was bland and this felt overpriced for a fast food, self service spot. The shrimp hargow were awfully dry, the shrimp didn't have the snap that fresh seafood has and the skin, again felt like they were frozen and dry.

The highlight of the meal was the pan fried pork dumplings which were juicy, soft, crispy on the bottom with sesame seeds.

Overall, it was extremely disappointing and I will not be returning. I am shocked it has 4.1 rating and 1000 reviews!!!

perfect little hole in the wall for soup dumplings! i always order the pork soup dumplings & it's always amazing! i've tried a couple other things & the food is usually pretty good

only complaint is that they were selling ice cream as BOGO & the ice cream had melted & been refrozen. DON'T FALL FOR IT LIKE I DID if i knew it was refrozen i wouldn't have purchased :( it's deceptive

Tasty food at reasonable prices, especially when you factor in there's no tip!

We were afraid of a wait, but when we arrived around 1230 on a weekend there were actually 2 free tables. The guy working there instructed us to place orders at the terminal, and mentioned its all "self serve and so there's no tip". That definitely works for me.

Food came out fairly quick. Portions were bigger than I expected given the price.

Favorites were the spicy shanghai pork noodles (which actually weren't that spicy, but were quite flavorful, especially with the egg); and the beef appetizer dish, which had an ample amount of cilantro.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the beef noodle soup (was a little flavorless compared to other places). Dumplings were okay, but not sure that I would order them again.

My go to soup dumpling place in Edison. Ugly Dumplings are flashier, but this place is more authentic and delicious. There are a few machines at the front entrance where you can place the order, then find a table and wait for them to call your number. The whole system is super easy and efficient.

My personal favorites are the beef scallion pancakes, the spicy salty tofu bowl and the soup dumplings. Avoid the jelly fish, it was just meh.

Overall, this is the place to go if you are craving some Shanghainese comfort food, it's an easy no frills place, perfect for a cold winter night.

This has been my family's go to restaurant for soup dumplings since before the ownership change. They have a great selection of dumplings and dimsum, but we usually get the same 2 things: crab meat/pork soup dumplings and pan fried pork buns.

We LOVE the crab and pork soup dumplings, but in the last half year, it seems like the recipe for the dumpling wrapper has changed. They're a little thicker and gummier than they used to be, but they're still better than everything else in the area. The filling is spot on as always! The pan fried pork buns are my personal favorite (perfectly crisp, juicy, flavorful, what's not to love?).

This time we tried the crystal pork slice, which had a strange texture. None of us really enjoyed it, but it's probably an acquired taste.

We went the day after chinese new year. We ordered beef scallion pancake, crispy noodles, pork bun, beef noodle, truffle soup dumpling, shrimp shumai, pork soup dumpling, snow crab&pork soup dumpling. We ordered tea and it came with such a cute heart shaped swan filled with purple yam; it was oily though. We also got a free peach ice cream that I see all over tiktok; my fam loved it. Theres a discount if you pay cash. You can see them make the dumplings as well. The decor looks great; its a small space but looks very well decorated that it looks spacious. The shrimp shumai was terrible; tasted soo fishy. We enjoyed the rest of the food. If only they had a private room for special events this would be a great place to celebrate. Staff were great as well.

      1 check-in

I am having a hard time deciding a rating between 3 and 4. I'm choosing 4 because I am not as knowledgeable when it comes to dumplings and I also think Wu's has 4-5 star potential.

My co-workers and I ordered take out from Wu's, which is another reason I give them the benefit of the doubt because takeout is never the same and really my dumplings were quite tasty!!

So let's get into it. I ordered the spicy PB dumplings, and the dumplings themselves were perfect, juicy and flavorful! The PB sauce could have absolutely used more spice, to be honest if I didn't know spicy was in the title I would have assumed this was a mild dish. This is a shame because while the PB sauce is delicious, it's also quite thick and there was no element to cut that thick rich sauce which I think adding some more of the spice element could have done.
I also ordered scallion pancakes which are a favorite of mine! These were unfortunately completely underwhelming. They were SO oily. I am not one to blot my food- i appreciate some excess oil where appropriate but these were so soaked in oil that I had to blot, and still, it felt like I was eating oil pancakes. I didn't get the scallion flavor. I think the worst part is, they didn't give us sauce for it. We had two orders of scallion pancakes and NONE of the black sauce it usually comes with, again this is a missed opportunity to cut some of the thick/rich/oil taste.

So that is my main complaint- no sauces were given to us except one very small (Taco Bell sauce size) soy sauce packet, and we did get a black sauce but it wasn't even 1/4 full and had actually spilt over our order before we even received it. Anyway, we assumed the sauce we did get was for our friend's pork buns which do not come with a sauce of its own. Again, it's a shame because even the little bit of soy sauce I added to my food really helped, so having the appropriate sauces and elements to these dishes would have definitely heightened my experience.

We didn't stay long to really be able to judge the appearance but it was nicely decorated, a little bit small inside which I imagine can feel a bit crowded on the weekends but looked comfortable on a Wednesday afternoon.

Based on the dumplings alone (not as much with the PB sauce because it was so thick and not spicy) I would come back here, I definitely think there was potential for my meal to be great. I would consider dining in next time though; so I could request the sauces needed to take it to the next level.

I'll start with the good first by saying their pan fried pork dumplings were amazing. However, everything else we ordered was sub par. The noodle soup was way to fishy and a bit pricey, and the shrimp was dry. Overall, I don't think I'll be coming back here again.

This was my first time going to a dumpling shop. I would order from here again. The food was great. We ordered the crab and pork juicy buns, shrimp dumplings and Shanghai spicy pork dry noodles. Everything was hot and flavorful. The service was adequate.
      Ambiance could use a refresh.
I recommend takeout service vs dine in.
