My dishwasher quit heating and the dishes were not getting clean or dry. I contacted Service Care and they came out the next day at the appointed time. Jonathan was thorough, professional and courteous. He determined the problem, checked on timing to order and receive the parts and offered an appointment for two days later. We were going out of town so I requested they come the day after we returned home. They confirmed the appointment and were here early on the morning after we returned home. The repair was fairly quick. Jonathan did not need to pull the dishwasher out but brought a large piece of hard plastic to place on my floor to ensure no damage if he had needed to pull the dishwasher out. All in all my experience was very positive and I will definitely call Service Care again with any appliance issues.

I contacted Service Care about a Viking vent hood that was not working and they were out the next day. Their communication prior to the visit was exceptional. The young man who came to the house was punctual, polite and professional. Unfortunately that's where the good things stop.
Our vent hood blower is on the roof and despite claiming to have checked the motor, he never went to the roof. I suggested that the problem could be the startup capacitor on the blower and he didn't check it. Instead, after knocking around in our kitchen for the better part of an hour, he tells me that the problem can't be fixed and that the parts for our 17 yr old vent hood aren't available. He searched online, talked to Viking and there was no way to fix it and there was nothing he could do. He said even if he could fix it, it would be around $900. He collected $115 and left.
That just didn't make any sense to me. I'm reasonably handy and I went on the roof and quickly found the problem. Sure enough, the startup capacitor was bad and despite Service Care's claim that parts weren't available and my unit was beyond repair, Amazon delivered the $10 part the next day and I installed it in about 5 minutes. $10.
Based on this interaction, I can't recommend this company.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Janine M.Birmingham, AL283216Apr 23, 2024
Service guy came out to check our refrigerator, found that the damper wasn't working. Conveniently ignored the large pool of oil on the floor under the refrigerator (said it was probably nothing). Part was ordered and took a few days to arrive. In the meantime, we had a plumber out to check the valve where the fridge water line connects under the sink. Once the part arrived, we scheduled the service guy to come back out and install. When tech was here for install I asked him to please also take a look at where all the oil was coming from. While he was behind the refrigerator tinkering with the back of the fridge, the copper water line broke, pouring water everywhere and through our floor into the garage below. I scrambled to figure out how to turn water off while the tech clamped the line. Water got shut off and then tech informed me that it must have been the plumbers fault the line broke, even though it broke several minutes after the Service Care tech went behind the refrigerator to check the compressor. He also found that the compressor was shot (source of oil spill) and it would cost more to fix than to just buy a new one. Since the water line broke while the service guy was working on a repair, I called Service Care to see if they could help with water mitigation/repair flooring. The owner pushed back hard and said that the best he could do was to help pay part of the cost of repairing the water line. He also said that a mess up like this could put them out of business, and that it had to be the fault of the plumber so they would not help remedy any of the water damage caused by the techs mess up. I'm now dealing with a home insurance claim. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Besides the water damage the fact that a literal pool of oil was ignored by the tech when he first came out makes it feel like he knew our refrigerator didn't have much time left but wanted to get us to pay for a repair we didn't need.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand your frustration concerning the recent service visit and would like to clarify a few points to ensure there is a complete understanding of the situation. Our technician initially visited to address a specific issue with your refrigerator which did not require moving the appliance. Following this, we understand other service professionals, including a plumber, also accessed and moved your refrigerator. When copper water lines are used, it can lead to serious issues since they do not meet current code standards. During our follow-up visit, our technician moved the refrigerator only at your request which unfortunately led to the incident with the water line. While this situation is regrettable, it was influenced by the existing condition of the plumbing which had been deemed acceptable by previous professionals. We take all property concerns seriously, however, the integrity of the plumbing and decisions made by other service providers are beyond our control. Our offer to assist with the repair costs of the water line was made in good faith to support you in resolving this matter. We value your business and are committed to providing quality service. If there are any further questions or if you require additional assistance, please feel free to reach out directly.

Updated to add that o state, ambitiously, that the pricing was fair compared to "national pricing guide" is a crook. As mentioned before, $300 in labor charges for 5 minutes is absolutely unjust.
To mention that you will uninstall the part - do you have my original part available? Additionally my refrigerator has not been running in the same condition since this repair. The refrigerator does not cool and the water line is periodically leaking into the cool pantry compartment. This seems to be directly related to this repair, as prior to your work, no ice (water) was being produced. Poor workmanship and unjust charges all around.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for leaving us your feedback, Brittany. We’re sorry to hear that you were unsatisfied with our repair estimate. Unfortunately, we must dispute some of the claims made in your review. We understand your frustration, but our staff did provide you with a quote upfront for our trip and diagnosis fee of $99 which you accepted and is a typical rate for most appliance repair companies in Birmingham. Upon arrival, our technician performed a full diagnosis and provided you with a quote for parts and labor to complete the repair which you approved before work began. We have reviewed our records of your repair, and the quote our technician provided was fair and accurate based on the national pricing guide that we and thousands of other appliance repair companies use. Again, we do understand your frustration, but at no point did we misrepresent our pricing or attempt to overcharge or pressure you into completing the repair. If you'd like, we can remove the replacement parts our technician installed and provide you with a refund. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to proceed with the refund, please give us a call at 205-956-3777. Thank you again, and have a great day.
Aug 10, 2022Previous reviewI shared this same review with the owner in my after appointment feedback and received no response but I feel I need to share with other consumers. I should have read James's review from 7 months ago because that is EXACTLY what I experienced.
I was originally quoted $400+ for my repair and told my sensor went bad and needed to be replaced. The diagnostic appointment was $99 for a 5 minute diagnostic. I felt that both the $99 and the $400 total were quite steep. But since I didn't know what the complexity of the repair might be I remained a little open to the cost. Additionally, they came recommended by my father. So through that, I hoped I received a fair price for the repair (again, this is in spite of me feeling like it was steep.) Lastly, given that I paid the diagnostic fee I felt compelled to go with you for the repair so I wouldn't feel cheated out of my $99 for a 5 minute diagnostic.
After 2 weeks the part finally arrives and my appointment is scheduled. The technician arrives rings the doorbell at 12:29 and leaves by 12:43. 14 minutes for the repair and transaction and departure. Based on that, I'd say that it wasn't that complex of a job at all and now my feeling of being cheated is increasing. Additionally, the fact that the receipt that I received after the appointment only said "icemaker" with no information about the labor, part, or anything was extremely shady to me. So I requested the itemized invoice on Friday to see where my $314.89 went. After being told I'd receive the invoice Friday but receiving nothing I followed up again.
This morning I received the invoice. To my surprise, the charges listed did not feel just or fair at all. $40 for shipping and handling for a part that took 1-2 weeks to come in - so there definitely was no expedition for the shipping. Next there was $130 for labor. $130 for a little over 10 minutes of labor. (This is in addition to the $99 for 5 minutes of diagnosis.) I'm okay with the part price (even though online I saw the same genuine authentic part ranging in price from $86-105). Sure, you want to make some profit on your purchase of the part I guess. But $270 for a total of 15 minutes of work plus shipping is EXTREMELY crooked to me.
I spoke to who I presume was a technician who stood firmly in these crooked charges. So because of this horrendous experience, I can never use this company again and will do my very best to prevent anyone I know and everyone I don't know from being robbed from and taken advantage of by this company when they are in need of assistance. - CottonMouth C.Pinson, AL01Sep 5, 2023
Total scam, be careful with this company. Came out for 5 mins and charged me $99 to tell me it was going to cost almost as much to fix as to buy a new dryer. I tried to get the person to give me a ball park price in advance and they would not. it is a great scam if you can get away with it. I would like to make that kind of money. Beware!

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you were unsatisfied with our service and would like to address your concerns directly. Providing accurate estimates over the phone for appliance repairs can be challenging due to the unique nature of each issue. This is why we require in-person diagnostics before providing a repair estimate. It's worth noting that when setting up the appointment, we mentioned the diagnostic fee, which was agreed upon at that time. Post evaluation, our technician provided an estimate that we've reviewed and stand behind. It's always a balance trying to ensure repairs are cost-effective for our customers, and in some cases, a replacement may be more economical. We genuinely value every customer interaction and strive for clarity and transparency. Should you have further concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I called 3 appliance repair places trying to get someone to look at a dryer that stopped working
Service Care was the only one to call me back with an appointment.
The tech arrives during the time window they provided and gave us his diagnosis.
We order d the part ourselves after the tech gave us the part number. Mainly because they cannot get another tech to our place unit January 4th
Great service.

My 20+ year old Whirlpool washer decided to stop spinning suddenly. Hearing horror stories of the new low flow washers and smelly front load washers, I thought it best to try to get mine repaired. Also, I heard that it was taking 2-3 months to get a new washer from the manufacturer, shipped to store and then delivered/installed (thanks COVID!). I called Service Care on a Thursday hoping for an appointment within 2 weeks. Luckily, they had an opening on Monday! The tech showed up on time. He was so courteous and informative. He left my laundry room clean and my washer fixed (hopefully for another 20 years). I'll use them for any other appliance repairs that I need.

Eric and Tracy fixed my dishwasher and did such a great job. Not only did they fix a tricky problem that was really hard to find, they were very respectful of my home, laying down plastic to protect my floors and re-loading my dishwasher after the repair was done. I also really appreciated that they tried to look for any and all solutions before replacing the part. Thank you both, and thank you Service Care for hiring such wonderful, caring, and skilled technicians!

UPDATE: I was contacted by the owner and he offered to refund the diagnostics fee. I received a reimbursement check in the mail so I am adding a star back for the customer service.
In summary - the repair was swift and accurate. The billing and explanation of what you will be charged before they do the repair is not the same as after the repairs are completed. Just make sure you have an accurate explanation of the FULL amount of charges BEFORE the repairs are completed so you can make the appropriate decision.
3 stars for the repair guy. He was kind, quick and efficient. The rest of the experience was no good.
The repair was quick and effective however what they tell you over the phone to schedule and then what you pay are two different stories. What they told me over the phone was $99 service fee to diagnose the problem and if I chose the repair, that $99 service fee would go TOWARDS the cost of the repair. Industry Standard. So I booked.
Repairman showed up on time, was polite and knowledgeable, found the problem within 20 minutes (washer leaking due to torn front seal on door) and gave me quote to fix - $379.83. I thought quote was high but he was there with the part and ready to fix so I agreed. After the repair was completed (2 hours total time onsite) it was time to pay. I asked for a breakdown of the total cost and he said it would be emailed to me after payment. I paid and when i got the email a few minutes later, the ticket just said an $80 seal. So I called to find out what the other $300 was for, exactly. Totally fine with paying labor but even $150/hour is high.
That's when the fun started. First the lady who answered (off shore) seemed confused as to what I was asking about and said she'd have a manager call me. Then the lady manager (local) who called told me there was the part cost ($80), labor (around $80/hour so fair), shipping & handling? (Even though the part was in the truck but okay) and the kicker- the $99 diagnostics fee.
Wait a minute. I was told the $99 fee went towards the cost of the repair if I accepted the repair. I've had plenty of service people at my home to repair things and that is standard but never have I been charged the diagnostics fee AND the cost of the repair.
If that's the way you do business, so be it. Just be sure to tell people up-front what they're going to be charged. And all I ended up with AFTER i paid was an invoice for $80 anyways.
So beware before you schedule with this company.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
