Superb drinks that are well worth the price ($14 mostly). Bar tenders are very knowledgeable, bar is beautiful. Not ate the food but it looks good.

I didn't want to eat at the restaurant in the hotel I'm staying at...again..so, I ended up in the restaurant at a different hotel.
The decor is cute, beach blankets adorn the barstools, with blow up beach toys placed along the bar. Almost made me forget how cold it is outside.
The bartender was attentive and friendly-same goes for the rest of the staff.
I wish they had more breakfast options, but that may have made for a more difficult decision.
I had a delicious and delicately sweet Peach Bellini and the mushroom and egg polenta. It came with a simple side salad and was quite tasty and satisfying.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

What a fun place! It was spring break themed, and they had rainbows springs and palm tree decor everywhere. We got there around 6:30 on a Friday for dinner, and waited at the bar for a few minutes while a table was clearing. We got a drink from the bar from a special spring break menu! It's a special pop up bar that's open until April 30! I was surprised to see they have Midori (I don't go to bars often but I always ask to see if they have it and they almost never do). One of their drinks seemed to be similar to a midori sour (the ecto-cooler) and I ended up getting that. My friends got the wet t shirt contest and pimm's cup. All of our drinks came in special containers (mine was in a kool-aid pouch, we had 2 palm tree cups).
Once we were seated, we ordered some food. We got an appetizer of pretzel bites. They all got burgers and I ended up getting the 24 hour pork belly. The pork belly was delicious. It came over a bed of lentils, which I'm not a big fan of, but the pork belly itself made up for that. I was eyeing a few other menu items (Brussels sprouts, mussels) that I definitely want to come back and try! I also took a look at their normal drink menu and they had some pretty interesting drinks on there as well. Definitely have to come back here and try some more things!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Chic hotel bar with surprisingly good food and happy hour deals. My good friend and I were looking for a place to get drinks and food in the River North or Streeterville area, and Sable popped up. Would highly recommend public transportation (Grand/State station is just a block away) or rideshare options as finding parking seems like a giant headache.
Sable itself is located inside Hotel Palomar and the vibe is very much upscale, moody, and modern. I really love the plush chairs and wall seating and funky patterns on the chairs and ceiling. We stepped inside a little bit after Happy Hour (from 4-6pm weekdays) and had our pick of the place. All the staff members were warm but courteous and helpful without hovering. After settling in, I chose a Hotel Nacional (they are quite generous with the rum), she got an Apple Spice and Everything Nice (the perfect non-alcoholic remedy for an wintry Chicago day).
I would highly recommend stopping in during Happy Hour since the drinks are a steal, and the Deviled Eggs Carbonara are perfectly creamy, but unfortunately the other appetizers featured really weren't that unique. With the 24-Hour Pork Belly though, Sable absolutely hit it out of the park. Neither of us had been expecting much from this hotel-based kitchen, but not only was the pork just crispy and sticky enough, but those freaking chanterelles were MAGICAL, and the lentils balance what would otherwise feel like a cheat-day meal.
Should your eye also be drawn towards the Foie Float, know that the foie flavor is not particularly strong, and you can opt for alcoholic or non-alcoholic root beer. We enjoyed the presentation and combo of ingredients, but next time would probably opt for a different dessert rather than being led by our curiosity.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0Business owner information

My dad, mom and I brunched here on the Thursday we flew into Chicago. Sable Kitchen is one of those tourist death trap restaurants you unknowingly book because 1) it's centrally located 2) high Yelp reviews. Nothing was very special about our brunch.
The restaurant was fairly empty when we dined - wait staff was great and attentive. The food - not so much.
I ordered the polenta and eggs ($18). It comes with over easy eggs on a toast of fried polenta with wild mushrooms, chèvre, fontina, fine herbs + a side salad. I also ordered a side of sausage ($6) for protein. My dish was no bueno. There was no cohesiveness with the polenta, eggs and mushrooms. Everything tasted as if it were separately made and just piece mealed together. I didn't find it remarkably memorable. I also thought the sausage was too, too salty so no thanks.
My parents thought their entrees were also okay. For convenience sake, maybe eat at Sable? But I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a destination.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2019
Came here to eat breakfast because it is in the hotel. The food is delicious and the service is great.
Would also like to point out their cute surfing/beach deco, which makes the dining experience even more enjoyable:)
Ordered salmon salad and egg and toast and would say the salmon is definitely the highlight! The crust is crispy and the greens are fresh and the ferro is filling! The scrambled egg is delicious and the toast is great too but as compared to the salmon, it just feels a bit too simple.
Would recommend for the restaurant for anyone who stays here at kimpton, or just a normal breakfast find!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 29, 2018
Hubby and I stopped by here for happy hour and I am so glad we did! For $6 you get a great craft cocktail. I had a Bee's Knees, and Hubby had a Manhattan. Both were excellent. And even though it was busy, the bartender found time to chat with us about the ingredients and such.
We also had the buttered and salted popcorn. Not sure what happened, but there really wasn't any butter or salt on it. I didn't care, I liked it anyway... just be aware.
We plan to stop by again when we are downtown. Happy hour is a must.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Let me preface this review to saw that it's not so much a reflection of Sable, but for their Christmas pop-up bar, Miracle, as we went there specifically for the Christmas pop-up bar and have no other experience of Sable. We did not eat. We were only there for the Christmas cocktails.
The decor was cute, but not as over the top as I would have expected for a bar that's touting to be specifically a Christmas pop-up bar. The cocktails were good. Miracle Christmas bars are a chain and the cocktails menus are consistent at each location. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly.
I have also been to the Miracle pop-up bar in Indianapolis and, by comparison, this one just felt lack-luster.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Extremely sad to say that my fifth visit to Sable was no where near on par with my prior four. First off when we arrived I was surprised to find that the dining room was closed and now only used for events. The bar was still open and there were seats there so we took a table there. I did think it strange as it was around 7:30 pm and in the past the bar area was usually packed. On this evening it was around half empty but we grabbed a high top and eagerly anticipated our meal.
They still have a wonderful selection of all types of whisky from all over the world. Compared to other places in chicago, the prices were decent. I was able to order a Bruichladdich Black Art #4 and an Amrut Fusion (whisky heads rejoice!) for a very good price. The food on the other hand....
Food: Here is where it went downhill. We ordered the Charcuterie Platter and the Cheese board. Neither were noteworthy and the portions very small. We also ordered the Lamb Tartare which was lacking flavor, the Country Seafood Boil which was okay, and the Flat Iron Steak which probably was the best thing on the menu that evening but $22 for about slices of steak was not really worth the money.
Service: It was okay, the staff checked up on us but we had to go up to the counter on a couple of occasion to get their attention. They did say there was a change in ownership and are now getting back on track.
Atmosphere: Same great bar but it feels strange with the empty dining room sitting off the side. Perhaps if you'd never have been to Sable in the past you may not even notice, to one who has spent several pleasurable evening dining here it was a remembrance to what used to be.
Value: I'm split on this as the prices for their whisky is one of the best I've seen in the neighborhood but the food prices for what you receive in my opinion is not worth it.
Overall: Sadly after making this one of my must stops every time I'm in town, it may now be just a fond memory. I'll check the recent yelp reviews the next time I'm in town and I sincerely hope they get back to where they used to be.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Cheers!Dec 6, 2016Previous reviewThis is my 4th visit to Sable over the last year and my third review so I'll keep it short. They again did not disappoint as the food and drink were great usual.
Ordered the Frisée Salad which was a special and the Cioppino on this visit. I was going to go with the Bone In Rib Eye special but it was so cold outside I was in the mood for something hot and soupy. The salad was grilled adding a nice smoky flavor along with sweetness from the apples and golden raisins plus creaminess from the slices of cheese. The Cioppino was tasty, not as heavy tomato base as you'll find in San Francisco but good in it's own way. I just wished it had a little spice to it. Loaded with fresh, scallops, shrimp, fish and mussels served with a nice portion of grilled crostini perfect for dipping.
For my cocktail I went with the Travellar's Terrace which looks to be there take on a Manhattan but using world whiskey like the Yamazaki 2 and an east india sherry.
Another great experience at Sable!Mar 24, 2016Previous reviewLoved my last two visits to Sable, this time I was in town with the family so I had to bring them by to experience the culinary goodness and inventive cocktails found at Sable! I am pleased to say that my wife and daughter both loved Sable as much I did! Our server Martin was excellent in recommending both food and drink, he's very knowledgeable about the menu and his cocktail suggestions were spot on! I recommend the Lifter Puller if you like bourbon based cocktails!
Food: We love tapas menus as it allows us to try many different dishes. Since there were three of us, Martin customized some of the dishes for three as I think they normally are served for two. The Steak Tartare was very good, reminded me almost of a raw tuna dish, no raw beefy flavor at all, clean tasting, not bloody, great dish. The Grilled prawns were also another hit, large prawns served with just the right amount of char on the outside. My favorite was probably the Lamb Pops, there was a glaze that came with it but it was so good just as is I found I hardly used the sauce! Since we were on vacation and it was our last evening we had to order dessert. We went with the Churro Ice Cream sandwich and the Lemon Polenta Cake, both were extremely well done and there were no leftovers.
Service: Service was excellent, Martin was the perfect server/host. I had a question about some of their Japanese whiskeys and Martin even brought over the manager who had a little more knowledge in that area. Great service at Sable.
Atmosphere: Trendy, hip, love the space. On my previous two visits I sat in the bar area since I was dining alone, this time we were on the restaurant side with our booth facing the open air kitchen. Loved sitting on this side as we could see all of the dishes being placed on the counter and gave us a good idea of what was popular.
Value: It is pricey, small dishes running around $12 - $20 per so it's easy to run up a tab, especially if one takes advantage of the numerous cocktails and extensive list of fine spirits. Based on the service, menu quality, and cocktail selection, I would place say the prices are fair for an occasional treat for most of us common folks!
Overall: Love Sable, if I'm back in Chicago I'd definitely return!Oct 12, 2015Previous reviewLooking for a dinner spot for one, Sable came up on Yelp as very highly rated so off I go looking for food and drink. The restaurant is about half a mile from my hotel, nice evening so I take the stroll over building up both my thirst and appetite. Being by myself, I decide to head over to the bar area versus the restaurant. The bar was pretty full but lucky me one high top opened up and I was able to grab a seat with no wait.
Food: Lots of interesting cocktails on the menu, tons of spirits on the wall..hard to decide. I was my server what she would recommend or what is popular. There were a couple that sounded tempting but she sold me on the Kentucky Grazer. Bourbon, lemon, mint, Pimm's, celery bitters..quite refreshing and a little on the tart side. There were also several tempting food items to choose from but again with the advice of my trusty server, I went with the Wagyu Beef sliders. The sliders may not be for everyone as the burger was cooked to a perfectly juicy, bloody, rare interior. Sliders being on the small side are usually overcooked in my opinion..there were prepared wonderfully. The the first bite is a burst of beefy flavor mixed in aioli, jam, and yolky fried quail egg. Quite possibly the best slider I have ever eaten.
Service: Great service, my waitress checked on me often, offered great suggestions for both drink and food. The servers are a definite plus at Sable.
Atmosphere: I did not get a chance to check on the restaurant side but the bar area was great. The wall of spirits is quite impressive and next time I'll try to get a seat at the bar to see if I can try a scotch that I've never had before. Great spot for kicking back and enjoying a nice cocktail.
Value: On the pricier side ($15 for two bite sized sliders) but the quality of ingredients provide the value. The slider made of wagyu was tender and tasty plus the fried quail egg took it beyond your everyday bar variety. Definitely quality over quantity but that's what is important to me.
Overall: Great place, I'd like to return again to sit at bar and try some of their whiskeys and scotchs..in fact I think I may just do that! - Feb 1, 2018
Some friends and I ventured into Sable after dinner down the street, and we were immediately impressed by their cocktail menu. The menu is vast and has a variety of options with an array of flavors and concepts.
I tried the "Spanish Coffee." I missed the fact that it would be lit on fire when I ordered it. It contains Plantation OFTD rum, Cardenal Mendoza brandy, Kahlua, Caffe Moka espresso liquor, Grand Marnier, cinnamon, and nutmeg. And it is presented to you aflame, and interestingly, the flame burns blue. It's a beautiful and delicious drink with a little kick of caffeine.
I will definitely be back to try out more of their craft cocktails!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information
