Life Storage - Chicago

My wife and I got a storage space at this Grand Avenue location in April. Within a month of moving in, our space's floor was COVERED in rodent feces + urine.

Bernard, the manager, admitted the problem and offered to transfer us to another location -- except that every other location was significantly more expensive for the same size space. We requested this pricing differential be mitigated in light of the situation, and Bernard said he'd try to work it out and that he'd call us back.

He then proceeded to not only never called us back, but also systematically screen our phone calls for weeks, never answering the phone as soon as he associated my wife or me with a particular phone number. When we finally went down there, he made up some absurd story about being out (apparently for weeks and weeks). This made it clear to us that Life Storage does not care about the sanitation at their facilities, nor retaining their customers.

Beyond the rodent infestation, one of the two loading bay doors was broken almost the entire time we were there, and the remaining loading bay was filthy and smelled of (human) urine.

Do not believe the positive reviews you may see on Google, as Bernard pressures customers to create a review *in his presence* at the start of their lease -- i.e. before they've actually been with Life Storage for any length of time. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I wish I could give negative stars to this location, actually the whole company is just the absolute worst! The manager Marc Anthony -- nothing like the cheerful Latin singer, is so rude on the phone wouldn't let me finish my sentences ( I'm assuming it's because I am a woman) and never filed my paperwork when I went in the first time to fill it out! Then told me I needed to come in again to fill out paper work (mind you it's an hour drive away from me) but once I arrived they were on lunch at 3pm ! Then after talking to the regional manager about my conflicts he comped the month of October for my troubles, but once I went to go pay the bill it was doubled in price and no one had notated about my bill! Basically having me start all over with management on the phone, who just so happens to be out of town for a month! So please please please do not go here it is nothing but a head ache rude people and unprofessionalism!
