I really loved Mr Ramen so the poor ratings really confuse me!!!!
I recommend the cold noodles that come with sprouts, chicken curry katsu, and any of the ramen. I came back here 2 more times after the first during my trip to California because the first impression was just so heartwarming and pleasant. I didn't have a wallet after having my cards and license stolen, but the owner was kind enough to offer a bowl of ramen on the house. Talk about outstanding customer service!!!
Also, the art on the wall hand drawn by various customers is so alluring and interesting. You can definitely end up staring at them for all of your wait time as the food gets ready. It truly feels like a piece of Japan in the always evolving and ever changing Little Tokyo. I haven't been to this part of town in 7 years, but I now know where I wish to come back to once my cousins make a trip to the states!!!!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Leo F.Corona, CA3041910Oct 14, 2023
super good! great prices for bowls here, ordered a tonkatsu ramen bowl combo with fried rice for $16 and the addon meats they give you a platter with a sour-like dumpling sauce omg its delicious.
noodles are cooked very al-dente mmm yess!

Haven't been here in like 5 years. Sad that the owner Dad passed away. He would be proud that his children are keeping his legacy alive. Ramen still as I remember- fried rice amazing still! Fresh gyoza too! The upgrade decor is just right.

Mr. Ramen is tried and true! They are a small authentic ramen joint that has been around 30 (?) years -- which really just ages me; 30 yrs and change ago I was in high school!
My mom turned me on to this place and as it would happen at this most recent visit I was here with my mom and kids for a day of chill fun in Little Tokyo. We'd had a busy morning and were hankering for something, good, hot, and tasty -- ramen it is!
Each of us has their preferences:
I went for ramen with fried rice combo -- get the regular size ramen as it is "just right" enough. I got the miso broth - always tasty.
My son and daughter have kids' palates - so their dishes were as "plain" as can be but they enjoyed every bit of their ramen with slurpy gusto!
What I really like about Mr. Ramen - aside from the food -- is that they have their tradition of encouraging "napkin art." Picture waiting for your dish to arrive and doodling on a napkin...waitstaff began featuring / hanging the napkin art on their walls and they now have (several?) albums of customer art. Up through May, you can come in, enjoy a bowl of ramen and for 1.00 buy a special paper to doodle away and submit for a potential prize. I love that Mr. Ramen loves its customers!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2 - 350141379Oct 20, 2023
The service at this restaurant was phenomenal and we walked in late! Definitely appreciate the late hours they stay open. Our server was all smiles and very attentive. They give you the option of small, regular, or large for ramen; regular is quite generous. The ambiance was very casual and this place is fabulous for groups. I would return!

I went here with friends and had great customer service. I decided to get the Tonkatsu ramen combo. The gyoza was piping hot but came with no sauce so I used the soy sauce on the table.
When my food came out with my friends, my ramen was cold and lacked that deep flavor definition of a pork broth which made it a disappointing experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 25, 2022
TLDR; Cute restaurant with good service, ambiance, and cold ramen.
It was a hot day in Little Tokyo around noon today, and my friends and I were searching high and low for a cold noodle place to cool off at for lunch. We originally asked Orochon Ramen if they still offered hiyashi chuka, but the lady said they no longer serve cold noodles on the menu. However, she said she used to work at Mr. Ramen and recommended it for the best cold ramen in Little Tokyo. So onwards we went to Mr. Ramen, passing by the large hoards of people waiting to eat at popular spots like Marugame Monzo and Daikokuya.
We were first greeted with a nice hit of cool A/C and a warm welcome from the staff. The large mural art on the walls was cool, and they had small cute drawings from guests hung up on the wall as well. It wasn't super busy like the other restaurants, so I felt comfortable taking my mask off to cool down a bit after walking under the sweltering sun. The cold ramen I was searching for was on the menu with either ponzu or miso dressing, so I opted for the cold ramen with ponzu.
My cold ramen took about 15 minutes to come out, and it was absolutely delicious! The ponzu dressing was very refreshing and paired well with the cold chewy ramen noodles, crunchy strips of cucumber, diced tomatoes, seaweed, egg, and strips of cold chashu pork. The portions were not huge for the price, but it was enough for a light cooling lunch.
The staff were really attentive and easy to get service (for ordering, water refills, the check, taking away plates). They have a small bathroom in the back before the kitchen, and it was nice and clean.
I would definitely come back to Mr. Ramen for the cold ramen again! I feel like it may not be as well known as the other super popular places in Little Tokyo, but it's definitely a hidden gem.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Yoshihiko H.Whittier, CA39425Feb 3, 2024

For a hole-in-the-wall, this joint is cozy and relaxing. The interior features an array of guest art done by various patrons--I assume.
The staff here is bilingual in Japanese and English, it was so reminiscent of being back home in the 808. I appreciated the outstanding service and eats. I opted for the Curry Chicken shoyu ramen and a side of gyoza which was realllllllly tasty. Simple, yet tasty and satisfied my hunger.
If you're in the mood for something quick and easy, this is a legit space to grab ramen. It may not be as busy as other joints on 1st--which definitely worked to our advantage. I will be back the next time I'm back in LA.
