Sometimes, when I have a great time/meal, I like to wait a few days before writing a review to make sure that I really did have a great a time/meal as I thought I did. This is one of those reviews!

My blushing bride chose Ruth's Chris for a family celebration, partly based on past good experiences and partly to see the new location. That was a fine decision by me as I share both the sentiment and the curiousity.

From cocktail to dessert it was a wonderful evening. The server, Zim (I believe) was not just fantastic a serving us but went out of his way to support our quest for a fun family event. He made the night with his professionalism and his wit. The support staff were also very professional. I can say, without a doubt, that everythign we ate or drank was really enjoyed by all of us.

If I were to comment a bit negatively on anything it would be that I did not see a veal chop or a pork chop on the menu. One of those would have been my first choice. I had the stuffed chicken instead and was well pleased. I'm still trying to process the situation with California wage increases for servers and the on-going suggestions of 18 - 22% tips. Seems counterintuitive and the retention of an old-school pay mechanism in a new-school system. We tipped well nonetheless. At least there wasn't any silly fees also included.

Bottom line: Ruth's Chris really is an excellent restaurant that hits all of the high notes. After a few days of contempaltion, we really did have as good of a time and mealas I thought we had!

Even though this Ruth Chris has been open for a few months in the new location we had been unable to get seating on our previous visits. Fast forward to my wife`s birthday celebration last week. We arrived right at 4pm and sat at the bar immediately. Even though there were over 5+ workers behind the bar not one greeted us or asked if they could help. It was as if we were invisible. I could understand if it was busy but there were only a few other customers in the bar area of the restaurant. After 10 plus minutes of being ignored I finally flagged down a bartender and ordered our drinks. They have a rather small selection of beers to choose from. We ordered from the happy hour menu and the food was OK but it was not the type of good quality that you would expect from a Ruth Chris.

The bartender, who we had told earlier that it was mt wife`s birthday asked us to wait as he had a birthday gift for her. After waiting a good 10-15 minutes he proceeded to bring out a small desert. To my shock he had added an additional $5 on to my bill for the "gift" he gave us.

I feel very disappointed in how our dining experience ended up. From the poor service staff, mediocre food and being slapped in the face with a charge for the "gift" I don`t think we will be visiting again.

Our Saturday Steakhouse Saga: A Hit-or-Miss Experience

Our Saturday night outing was to a highly recommended steakhouse famed across California for its prime cuts. Anticipation was high, but the reality we encountered was a blend of standout moments and notable letdowns. Amidst an atmosphere that was louder than preferred and dishes that ranged from sublime to mediocre, our dinner adventure was saved in part by exemplary service and a dessert that delivered an unexpected delight.

The Setting: Too Close for Comfort

The steakhouse ambiance left much to be desired on a bustling Saturday night. Our table was wedged uncomfortably close to neighboring diners, making private conversation impossible. The solution? Texting across the table to communicate. Adding to the challenge was the dim lighting, forcing us to use our phone lights to read the menu--a workaround that was more amusing than inconvenient.

      A Culinary Mixed Bag

Appetizers: We kicked things off with the Seafood Tower and Crab Cakes. My partner was pleased with both, but I found the crab cakes disappointingly soggy, lacking the crisp exterior I had hoped for. The Seafood Tower, though impressive, didn't seem worth its lofty price.

Entrees: The meals arrived promptly, hot and ready to eat. My husband's New York Strip was just okay--nothing to get excited about, although the Mac and Cheese was a hit with him. My salmon, on the other hand, was beautifully cooked, tender, and flavorful, though the sides were just okay, not particularly memorable.

Dessert: The "Sinful Chocolate Cake" Unveiled

The finale of our meal was the eagerly anticipated "Sinful Chocolate Cake," a name that promised an indulgent foray into chocolate nirvana. Upon arrival, this dessert presented a richness that could only be described as sinful. However, the expectation of a fluffy cake gave way to the reality of a dense, fudgy texture--a characteristic that, while delicious, tipped the scales towards an overwhelming richness. This lavish chocolate experience, although initially delightful, proved to be too rich to finish comfortably.

In retrospect, our visit was a rollercoaster of highs and lows. From standout dishes to those that left more to be desired and an ambiance that detracted from our overall enjoyment, it was an evening of mixed emotions. Yet, the impeccable service and the surprising delight of strawberries in our dessert left us with memorable moments. It was a poignant reminder that not every dining experience will fully meet our expectations, even at establishments held in high regard.

My boyfriend reserved a surprise late Valentine's Day dinner here, and it was a solid (and romantic) experience.

After getting checked in to the front desk, our waitress brought us to our table and sprinkled cute heart shaped confetti on the table. A small, but cute touch!

We ordered the lobster bisque soup and caesar salad as our starters. The lobster bisque was smooth and creamy, but it tasted like it was missing something (maybe more salt)? The caesar salad was very good. It was a refreshing dish to eat right before the main course.

Our entree was lobster and fillet (medium rare for me and rare for my bf). The lobster and butter was delicious, but the steak really stole the show for me. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.

We ended the night with cheesecake. My boyfriend couldn't eat his because of lent, so I ended up eating most of ours. No complaints here, because it was definitely one of the better cheesecakes I've had. Just the right amount of sweet, slightly savory, and not too heavy on the stomach.

Ruth's Chris Steak House was definitely a hit and a night to remember.

Everything tasted good and went well except:
They should really call the "steak salad" something else because that salad has no steak whatsoever lol it's kind of decieving. So warning: don't order the Steak Salad expecting to have some steak in it because it's just arugula and iceberg lettuce. Also the waiter recommended the calamari for the appetizer and I love calamari so why not but he said it was "lightly fried" unlike any other place but there was nothing "lightly fried" about it. It was your usual calamari but I did like the pepper touch to it. Another thing was they brought out an 11oz ribeye when my bf said he wanted to stay with the original 6oz. It tasted amazing but we were curious if the waiter did that on purpose since he specifically asked my bf if he wanted the 11oz and he said no he wants the original.

In the end, they covered it and took care of it but charged us for the 6oz anyways when he didn't even get it. The waiter was also chit chatty with another table and was there for about half an hr like was he off already? Lol anywho, like I said, everything tasted great and the cheesecake was delicious! But not a 5-star experience like we expected.

      Yummmmm.

We came here during the first week of opening and they did not disappoint.

Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was true to the brand's legendary flavors and smells. No complaints!

So so so good, and the location is SUCH an upgrade. The interior is a bit dated and Valley-esque, but that's to be expected.

Service was so sweet and efficient. Their folks were still training when we were there - try to be patient while they work out any kinks.

Free parking and valet parking in the lot - good ol Woodland Hills.

      Updated review

I normally go a couple times a year to their old location to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions and this was my first visit at their new location. I was here on Friday during their holiday lunch hours to celebrate my mom's retirement, sadly, this visit wasn't as special as the previous ones. I don't know if it was a change of staff for the new location, but their service was not as top notch as you would normally receive at a Ruth Chris.

One thing was that when I made a reservation, I requested one of the paper menus that they can have special messages on. I've made these request several times at their old location requesting Happy Birthday messages and Congratulations messages, and they've had no issue always giving these to commemorate the special event. I requested to have this done for this visit with a Happy Retirement message, and they did not do this. Not only that, but they were not even aware we were there for a celebration. It was noted on the Open Table reservation notes, so maybe they were just not reviewing the info. That was pretty disappointing.

Also, the type of service level seemed to change a little. The service was pretty slow. We waited about 20 min from the time we sat down to the server coming by to take our order. It was another 20 min wait after we finished our appetizers for them to bring out the entrees.

Lastly, when our drinks were empty, we had to ask 3 or 4 different servers for a refill before they actually refilled our drinks. The restaurant had a lot of empty tables, so they were not full. I don't know what the hold up was.

The food was good, but the service really was something out of the norm for Ruth Chris. Needless to say, it was pretty disappointing since the reason we went to Ruth Chris for this special occasion was for the whole experience, excellent food, excellent service etc... this visit was totally not up to par with my previous visits at their old location.

We really like coming here, we just celebrated our engagement here and they upgraded our dessert for free. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The seared Ahi appetizer is delicious! We always get the same thing, Filet, au-gratin potatoes and Brussels, always fantastic!! This time, I tried the spicy shrimp, it was really good too. & they've got my favorite wine- Justin Cab. Love it here!
