I like coming here on and off, now I'm thinking about some bigger suspension for splashing in the mud runs.

Folks here are like family. It's muddy.

Rocky Mountain Terrain Park is pretty much the most fun I have had in the past few years. A bunch of my friends started to go up a few years ago and just this past year I was able to join them. The road in to the RMTP is a fun preview to what you will see. We finally made it in there and met John Steele the owner. We paid and signed our waivers and went up to our campsite. We set up our camp and got to camping and riding. First off there are porta pottys on either side of the camps. Both of them were very clean and fresh. There are also two bathrooms down by where you check in. Most of the off-roading was too hardcore for my little piece of junk 250cc quad. However, I had the time of my life just cruising around the roads and mud pits. I will add that I live behind enemy lines in Massachusetts where one can not have fun and you will even be hassled by the police for riding on your own property. But not here. I drenched myself and my machine in mud and went back to camp. After that we tried out the gun range. There are numerous targets ranging from old compressor and water tanks to gongs at various points. We had one heck of a shoot at the range. Even shot some skeet. The night views are picture perfect. My dog even had a great time. One of the nights there was even a big ass bonfire and that was beyond cool. John treated us with the utmost hospitality during out 3 nights and four day stay. He is also a great cook and the meal plan is 100% worth it. I even took my truck through the mud pits and got it nice and dirty. In the future, I think I'm going to buy an old jeep and trailer it up because this place is freaking amazing. Seriously if you live in a crappy state the second you get up here you will just shed your mass guilt. I'll also add that a few years ago a buddy of mine inured himself. John renamed the campsite after the mishap. We woke up one morning to find a new sign hanging up. 10/10 great campground, offroading, food and gun range. I'll be coming back every year you can count on that.

After a friend of ours had a mishap a few years ago. New campsite name.
My junky quad got quite the work out here.

      First to Review

This is an Off-Road park for Trucks and ATVs. Awesome terrain, HUGE park, as well as camping and food!

Jon has a very laid back management of the park, which is nice that you can just go enjoy yourself. He is always around, so if you get stuck, he can come unstuck you. No matter the size (bulldozer and escavtor on site if it is that bad!). He also encourages people to make trails of their own if they'd like. Just keep it in the property's borders (which are massive so that is easy!).

He also cooks if you bring a group for a day or weekend trip. The food is always amazingly good. If you call ahead and schedule, then when you arrive in the morning he will usually have breakfast ready for you (the french toast is unreal), with all the trimmings (bacon, toast, coffee, soda, milk, water, real maple syrup, as well as fake maple syrup.

Lunches and dinners are always a toss up - but always good! and always way more than enough food.

The lodge is a little rough, but it matches the nature of the park. Fireplae in the corner for the fall and spring. I've heard him mention that he does a snowcross track in the winter too, but haven't had a chance to go yet. And the huge couches around the fireplace may look gross, but seriously try sitting there after a day of wheeling... if you aren't asleep in five minutes than you still have more park to see!

Campsites are spread around the lodge. Far enough that you can camp, and not be bothered by anyone else's noise. He has some old RV's parked on some of the sites, that I think he used to rent out. Looks like someone broke in and destroyed all of them though. Definitely stay out of them haha. We tented out and slept in our trucks and had a blast.

Right below the lodge are two large mud pits, a dirtbike track with some decent sized woops, and a small rock pile with some good obstacles for rock crawlers.

One of the trails takes you right to the top of Winter Hill. You can see for miles, its very pretty, and the trip is usually a few hours up the trails so its a good half-day run.

This park needs more visitors. I fear if people don't start hitting this place harder, he may just close up. This park has SO MUCH potential, and is really the "free-est" terrain in maine from legislature. If you haven't been, it's worth the trip at least once. Alcohol is permitted as long as it is kept reasonable. We usually are having too much fun during the day to remember that we have beer. - NO GLASS!

Have been going for 2 years and will continue to go as long as it is open!

Whether it's two wheels, four wheels or a sled, this park has got it all. First of all the place is just plain cool. The owner has done a great job of setting up a park to accommodate folks in all types of weather. The park is massive with challenges from mild to extreme. Mud pits to rocks, this place has it all. It's reasonably priced and you get tons of fun for the money. You can camp with a tent or RV and when i've gone the owner, John (super cool guy) is cooking some great food on the grill, he does breakfast too if there are enough people there.

I've found that all of the other folks that visit have been cool and you can have fires and meet some really nice folks.

I love this place and would recommend it in a heartbeat. I've got a 2007 Ram 1500, with a lift kit. I only hit about a quarter of the terrain at this place.

We went up with a small group of friends in trucks and had a blast! Everyone we met there was easy going and friendly. We wheeled all day with a local guy we met at the gate on the way in. He was great and we had a escort for the day that liked the same hardcore rock trails we did. There seemed to be a good mix of trails and machines with 2, 3 and 4 wheels. We barely put a dent in the amount of trails at this park and he was talking about expanding more! There was a great vibe there all day and people really seem to like it as most that we met were regular visitors. The owner and the other people working there were awesome and fun to talk with, food was great and reasonably priced. Bottom line, good people doing it right and treating the customers like their happy they are there, the way it should be! You won't be disappointed.
