Good little spot for a quick lunch. Salad and nachos were tasty. Hot green chili was good and indeed hot. Not sure how long this place has been open but it appears they still have a few kinks to work out. First off the owner needs to stop using the dining area for storage and a make shift office. While I appreciate him keeping an eye on the business it makes a bad first impression. The entire dining area should be available for seating and nothing else.
2nd: please switch to plastic ware. While I appreciate silverware, it seems a bit silly with disposable plates/bowls. The tiny sign that asks guests to put their silverware in a small water filled metal container is odd, hard to find, and the location looks kind of gross.
3rd : a second trash can by the front door would be extremely helpful. The one back by the hallway was hard to spot.
4th : the staff needs more training and a better system in place. It was our first time here, as I explained to the order taker who offered no direction. She took our order and walked off. The staff was so quiet. How about a " Thank you, Jane will ring you up at the other end and we will bring your order to your table. " Instead the we all just stood there, had to ask for drink cups and even though 2 of our items ordered were exactly the same they had different toppings. My guess is because the order was taken by hand, then verbally given to two others that prepared it. The order taking system should be streamlined to avoid errors. Plenty of apps for this.
The food was good so we will give it another shot. I want them to do well. If they can get their systems down, this place has a chance to stick around and earn 4-5 stars.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 458154025450Mar 17, 2012Updated review
Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl, you remain 4 stars in my heart, but in this case more in my tummy... Hehehe *-*
Went back to Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl, for this time around for Take Out Dinner on TUESDAY February 28th 2012. Time was 17:30hrs ish.
I knew what to order to go, but still undecided what to choose for Hubs. Anyways from what I could recall these were what I ordered :
* Chili Cheese Fries ($5.55)
* With Meat (Beef) add ($2.00)
* Breakfast Bowl ($5.75) for Hubs
In the order I received, I opt for Taco Bowl (Hubs Order), but in the receipt printed out was Green Bowl ($6.55). *_*
I still like my order of Chili Cheese Fries with Beef, smothered with Vegetarian Green Chili. That alone is 4 stars. For Hubs order of Breakfast Bowl, it consists of Potatoes, Scrambled Eggs and Beans. Cant recall which kind of Beans I choose for Hubs though. Hubs like this dish the BEST. He gave it 3.5 stars.
As for Hubs order of Taco Bowl, he was slightly disappointed. Perhaps one, he might have been full from eating the Breakfast Bowl, coz that Breakfast Bowl looks filling and is DEFINITELY Filling. Second note, about the Taco Bowl, the chicken was slightly bland to Hubs taste bud. Perhaps next time, I might order this again but with Beef instead.
All in all, its good in my books and I dont mind returning...
@28/2012Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 17, 2012Previous reviewI like I like it alot. I was excited that Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl now have an actual store, I cant wait to go in and dine in. So on Thursday December 29th 2011, with two other gurlfriends, I suggest to them to Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl for lunch.
At first I was kind of hesitant for one of my friend coz she does not fancy anything "chili". When we arrived there was another couple dining in. While my two other friends, decide on what to order, I already figured out what I want to have for lunch that afternoon.
You order at the counter, pay at the counter and once your order is ready, they will send it to you.
I opt for the RMCB Chili Cheese Fries Bowl with Veg Chili and extra jalapenos. The service was prompt and the food came piping hot. 2 words MIGHTY TASTY! The portion was just right and what I ordered was filling for my LUNCH that afternoon. Its just so comforting. The staffs who took the order, make the food and attend behind the counter are indeed welcoming and friendly.
All in all I am a fan of Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl. I SO WISH they could offer more variety of the chili instead of pork or vege. I dont mind returning and hope Hubs like it as much as I do in future trips. Even my friend who does not fancy chili, was now a new convert coz from what I got to know, she went back to Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl the very next day!

Add this to places in not coming back to. Cashier was on personal call from before I entered to after I left. Someone else rang me up, even though cashier was up front most of time. Even though she didn't help me, she had time to fill her drink and scoop rice (for self?).
At this point, service outweighs food no matter how good.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Alisha C.Washington, DC359095Oct 23, 2012
I don't like reviewing places I've only been to once, but on that note, I don't plan on coming back here.
I must have been an off day when I went based on the reviews for this place. I understand honest mistakes but what may be my biggest pet peeve is screwing up my order and charging me more for things I never ordered. That was what unfortunately what happened. I was too distracted with the false math in my head it distracted me on my opinion of the actual food. Oh well.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Slop.
That's the only thing that comes to mind when I think about the food here. I had a Denver Daily Deal for them that I had to use so we trekked up to Stapleton on a week night for dinner. We weren't sure how the place would be-if it was sit down with service or if you order and pay then eat, turns out it was the latter. They were completely understaffed with only three people, one of who left when there was a huge line and the other two ladies were struggling to make the food, man the cashier, etc. We waited in line for awhile and they kept apologizing about the wait which I appreciated but it really doesn't help if they don't know what they were doing (that's what I got from watching them). There was an older lady and a younger one and they had to ask each other who was going to do what with customers waiting there. We ordered a fajita bowl and a taco salad and waited.....and waited. We got chips and salsa with guacamole in the meantime and while noshing on that, started to hear from the table next to us how their order was wrong....fantastic. The chips and salsa were lackluster, if I didn't know better I would have thought the salsa was bottled from Herdez. We got our food shortly after and the "taco salad" I ordered was weak. It was basically a huge fried tortilla bowl with scraps of lettuce, like the kind you'd top a burger with, drenched in green chile, steak, sour cream, guacamole and cheese (even when I asked for no cheese). I was getting frustrated with the experience so I didn't bother to say anything and it was as if they just threw everything together which created the infamous slop I speak of. My boyfriend got the fajita bowl which was loaded with goodies but only came with one tortilla when the taco bowl comes with three tortillas sooooo if you're gonna go-order the taco bowl to get more bang for your buck. The ice machine broke while we were there as well and by the end of the meal, I was ready to get out of there. I'm so happy I only spent $10 for a $20 deal but at the same time, that's still too much money for the slop that I ate.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Tiffany, I am so sorry your experience was so disappointing! One of our employees had an emergency and we unfortunately were unable to fill the 4th position, these things unfortunately happen sometimes in the service industry. The fact that you suffered because of this deeply bothers me and I would LOVE the opportunity to prove to you that we do not operate like this on a daily basis. I truly hope to hear from you and if so I would like to buy your next meal on us. As a small business owner it would be greatly appreciated as EVERY customer counts to us.
Sincerely, Matt Robinette Owner - Christina U.Santa Rosa, CA1224460Dec 16, 2014
I would give this place more like a 3.5 but 4 is reasonable given the staff has always been very friendly and helpful.
My first time eating at this restaurant I chose one of their signature bowls, the fajita bowl, and was very happy with the flavors. The second time I came back, I chose my own toppings and it wasn't as good as I remembered--maybe I should stick to their pairings. Anyway, both times as i got to the end of the bowl everything became a little bit soupy with sauce that wasn't super flavorful.
Regardless I'd come back because a warm bowl of spicy chili definitely hits the spot on a cold winter day!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christina E.Denver, CO1326881Jan 27, 2014
Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl is like the Colorado version of Wahoos Fish Tacos to me. Immediately when you walk in you realize this is a Colorado place, covered in references to our mountains and the great skiing we have in our home state. Instead of fish, RMCB's focus is amazing green chili. You can build you own bowl with a multitude of ingredients, or opt for something off their menu. We did the latter, and enjoyed some soft tacos and tostadas with their green chili. They were so yummy! I especially loved that my flour tortillas were homemade and street-taco size, not huge, and that the tacos were topped with fresh spring greens. They were delicious!
I want to plan a trip back just to build a bowl next time. For the bowl you get a base of rice or mashed potatoes, add beans (black or pinto), green chili (regular or vegetarian options) and then can add toppings from a list of more than dozen options - such as chicken, pork, veggies, tamales, etc. They have craft beer if you're so inclined, along with their fountain drinks. They suggest a cold craft beer would compliment their bowls perfectly and I couldn't agree more.
This place was a wonderful find and we'll be back anytime we're in the area. I can think of a number of combinations I can't wait to try, so I need to get back soon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - May 12, 2013
Really decent medium vegetarian green. Full of chopped chiles. They make really good food, despite spelling the word "chile" incorrectly.
Try The Purist bowl which is mostly green chile, and you can add a few things if you want. Really delicious. Good service too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tiffany N.Denver, CO377120941552Mar 18, 2012
Rocky Mountain Chili Bowl is like a Qdoba for green chile. Pretty awesome right? It goes something like this:
Get in line.
Pick what kind of bowl you want. (breakfast, purist, cheese fries, fajitas, sloppy joe, tamale, hot dog, nachos, original, taco, or salad, or build your own)
Pick the accoutrements for your bowl. (This could mean mashed potatoes versus rice, or pinto versus black beans among other things.)
Pick your chile.
Take bowl and eat.
I actually had a salad bowl when I stopped in to RMCB and it was great. It came with greens, black bean and corn relish, cheddar cheese, grilled chicken, avocado, tortilla strips, and I chose a spicy ranch dressing. All of this for under $7 was quite a deal.
You can eat in if you'd like and they do offer some beer as well as non-alcoholic drinks to wash down your chile bowls. Or you can take it to go and eat it wherever you prefer. It does seem to travel well based on my experience.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 11Oh no 0 - Jim C.Naperville, IL15916696Aug 14, 2013
Being a Chicago boy and a foodie at heart, I have always heard about green chili but never had any. Until now. And boy....was the wait worth it.
I had the good fortune to have the owner take my order. And I went with the tamale chili bowl topped with sour cream, fried tortilla strips, black beans, cheese, jalapenos and fajita veggies. And of course the green chili. I told him I liked it hot but not crazy ass hot and he said "I can control the heat, so I'll make it a combo of medium and hot." And the man hit the target.
The whole concoction was a flat out taste explosion with just enough heat to start a sweat on my brow and the sour cream balanced it nicely. The tamale itself was awesome and the chili was unlike any I have ever had. It was totally amazing. I wanted to bury my face in it and found myself wishing I had a double helping of it.
One other thing that I really liked about the place. And though this may sound weird, I think it's important. I like that the bathroom faucet cranked out hot water so hot I darn near scalded my hands. That to me says this place is clean.
Give RMCB a shot. You'll be happy you did.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0
