This is the best bookstore in the Southern Tier....period!
I have no idea how the folks at River Read books do it. The store is small and cozy but manages to carry an amazing selection of books. Every time I go there, I walk out with something I didn't even know I wanted. The owners and staff are friendly and engaging. They have a great loyalty program where you get a $10 coupon for every $150 you spend there. They also host book groups, readings, and other special events to help build the reading community.
If I lived in the Binghamton area, I'd be here every day!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Caitlin C.Avondale, AZ1626239Mar 24, 2016
Stumbled upon this awesome independent book store today! We are newer to the area, awesome location! Didn't get a chance to check out all the books, yet. The kids section is impressively well stocked! We will for sure be making this our book store. We met on of the owners and she is so friendly and knowledgeable. We can't wait to go back!

Nice independently owned bookstore in a scenic location next to the river. I went to the bookstore on 2 occasions back in October. The first time was on a beautiful warm sunny fall day with the leafs changing color on the banks of the mighty Chenango River. If there was ever a day the Binghamton Chamber of Commerce wanted to use to promote the area this day was IT! I was looking for a particular book (The White Album by Joan Didion) I couldn't find at other bookstores or even the library. When I asked the nice woman holding down the store if they had the book and her response was "of course". After purchasing the book I ask if they had any travel books on Turkey since I was going there in a month. She found a Rick Steves book on Istanbul and since it was a 2012 book she offered it for 1/2 price. I didn't buy it that day but, came back several days later and they still honored the 1/2 price offer. Book was so helpful while I was in Istanbul.
I always like to shop at privately owned businesses. River Read Books is a place I could spend hours in looking at all their eclectic selection of books. A book for any interest and friendly, informative staff make this a place locals should frequent and make purchases so, they'll be there for years to come.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessie R.Merrick, NY141131Feb 18, 2013
Absolutely love it here! Adorable little indie bookstore. A charm of downtown Binghamton, one of my favorite places around. i love the women that work there, they always make me feel like part of the family. Great discounts for students purchasing books for class. I really wish more of my professors ordered books to River Read...support local business, they will love you for it!!

Beautiful store. I love that I can talk to whoever is behind the desk and tell them what I've been reading to get suggestions. They are always very friendly. I wanted a book they didn't have, they were happy to order it for me and it came in only a few days. If you have kids, the section for children is awesome. This store gets all around tens.

This store is smallish but it is a great thing for Binghamton. A downtown bookstore that is not part of a chain and that does not have a big ol parking lot.

I love River Read Books! I'm a huge fan of this bookstore. The prices are reasonable, and the shop has a great atmosphere. It's absolutely beautiful, and incredibly comfortable. The place is just wonderful. They encourage you to hang around and read, and there's coffee and tea for sale. This is my favorite bookstore in the area. They offer a 10% discount to students!

SO cute. I am a sucker for independent book stores and River Read doesn't disappoint. They have a wide selection of books as well as some rando items like book bags (with spikes!!!) and games. There's also a cute cat that follows you around... meow

very nice little book store in downtown binghamton. they have a section of books about the binghamton area as well as many other types of books. they have a few snacks available for purchase including a few things from Chocolates By Leopold. they will also have occasional book signings, i got to meet rod serling's daughter at one! this place has been around a few years now and it was a nice little addition to the binghamton community.
