RTP delivers outstanding local theater. Limited seating creates an intimate setting.
Production-themed drinks are tasty novelty. With the Noble app you can order your drink ahead and pick it up on the way to your seat without waiting in line.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Suzanne A.Henrico, VA78140246Sep 27, 2022
I love this small, intimate theatre and their thoughtful and creative productions. I can't wait to see several shows on this seasons lineup!

This theatre is doing some great work. Tonight we saw the first show or their 25th season.
The theatre is intimate and only seats 99. I highly recommend sitting in the seats in the back, Rows E, F, and G all have tables. It is lovely sitting in a cabaret type setting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James M.Richmond, VA37311735Jun 9, 2017
There just aren't words adequate enough to express what this theatre means for RVA. Every production is a work of love. RTP's impact reaches far beyond the audiences who see their shows. Its work helps foster greater understanding and acceptance of the LGBT community and our culture.
I've seen dozens of productions at RTP and never once was I not entertained, moved and challenged.
It's a treasure.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jo Jo B.Washington, DC01163May 6, 2018Updated review
We just came from RTP's production of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart. Everything about this was done well. The cast was wonderful and created a heart wrenching experience for us theatre goers. Jim Morgan's tightly and deftly controlled performance was superb. As were others by Steve Rice, Dan Cimo..oh, everyone was wonderful.
Obviously, we are a bit tough on the arts, when they are not well done.
This was very well done. Go see it!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 16, 2017Previous reviewOne of the absolute worst 'theatre' experiences we have had. They go from bad to worse at RTP. Cloud 9 could have been salvaged by decent directing or producing, but this did not happen. We recently saw and loved Fun Home in Richmond, so it can be done there. Richmond must demand, and deserves better. We bought season's tickets to support them. We will just give them away. And not bother till (if) they get it together. Grade school production level.

I've been going to shows as part of the season for a few years now. And seen a few shows outside of the season. I generally like the selection of shows. Some have not been my taste, or even offended (like Cloud 9, in which actors swapped race, gender, and age - leaving a white man playing a Black South African, and a pedophile relationship but the child was played by a woman in her 40s). And, the actors are generally good, especially some of the regulars. This isn't broadway, but it's good queer community theatre.

What a great local theater. Have seen a couple of productions and attended the 25th anniversary. Fun, intimate venue let's you get right into the production. Friendly staff, all good

Just saw Two Boys in a Bed on a Cold Winter's Night here last night. As usual, the theatre is intimate and welcoming. Great atmosphere. I so love the bartender, who makes stiff drinks at a great price. The show itself was about 3.5 stars. The talent was not balanced in this two-man show, one clearly outshined the other (and I don't mean in terms of the full frontal, wink wink). It seems there are audio issues every time I attend a show here -- in one case a power outage, I think and last night, just poor execution. Nevertheless, I love this little diamond in the rough and will continue to be a patron.

Intimate and inviting... a community of people who all seem to know and love each other even though they may have just met. Several months ago, I saw [title of show] here, which was wonderful. Tonight, I just saw a VCU senior theatre showcase titled Stripped: an Exploration in Solo Performance. I think it's wonderful that RTP embraces its local young artists in this way. I look forward to going back soon.

I've seen three events at RTP this year and have enjoyed 2 of the 3 immensely. The show with Madame was hysterical and I had missed her since I was a young man only to find she was coming back to Richmond. Take Me Out was about a baseball team and the writing was clever while the show moved quickly. Of the 3, Comfort and Joy was good, and the acting from some of the characters was great, but I can't say that of the whole cast. I kept looking at my watch. However I was glad to come and support the theatre which is done so nicely. If you find yourself going to one, you'll get hooked.
