O~M~G. This lunchtime hub spin on a free bike with helmet was good as it gets! I received this email message from Crystal City BID: "Join the Crystal City BID and Revolution Cycles City Hub for a lunchtime ride. As part of their community outreach and to get "butts on bikes" with a good, healthy dose of cycling cardio, Revolution Cycles City Hub will be hosting weekly lunchtime "Hub Spin's" starting this Friday, July 2nd at noon. Riders can reserve a City Hub bicycle for free and take a relaxing, guided ride around Crystal City and area trails on their signature Trek Allant bicycles. All rider levels are encouraged. Click here to reserve your bike, and use the code LUNCHSPIN. All participants will get a FREE bike messenger banner bag!"
It was like 76 degrees, sunny, and perfect for a bike ride. Mid-day, too? 2nd of July with few folks in the office, too? Man-oh-man, they took the bunch of us down paths and under overpasses I'd previously viewed from afar as spooky. Places where they might find a hand sticking out on the opening scenes of Law & Order. But no, it was nice and calming down there. No dead hands sticking out. Wouldn't want to go alone though.
Anyway, after they outfitted each patron with a bike, helmet, and whatever adjustments they needed, they took us on an hour-long, approximately 5-mile, Tour de Crystal City. At the end, I found out we averaged 9 mph. Not bad. Now, maybe I'll be inspired and not so ashamed to get on my own bike which I had Capitol Hill Bikes repair for me before they closed and reopened down the block.
I'm back in the bike game. This is as good as it gets!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - John F.Alexandria, VA31107307May 8, 2010First to Review
Revolution Cycles City Hub is (almost) a full-service bike shop tucked away in Crystal City. I say almost since they do everything but sell bikes. There's a full service bay in the back for bike repairs. Up front is a smallish retail space full of jerseys, shoes, helmets, and a full array of spare parts (tubes, tires, locks, etc.). Their most unique feature (at least amongst DC-area bike shops) is the fleet of rental bikes parked out front. City Hub is located two short blocks from the Mt Vernon Trail and just a few miles from the National Mall. The rental bikes even have a cue sheet on the handlebar pack with directions.

Great shop for the daily bike commuter, during the busy season when they have lots of other bikes to work on they would always (pending parts were available) bump my bike up to the top since they knew I needed it to get to work. Some times they would fix my bike on the spot. They know how to work on all kinds of bikes and have a good amount of parts on hand between all the stores.
The store is very clean and the staff is very professional, there is no sales person pressure. Do note that this location does not sell bikes, they do sell everything else.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William C.ROCKAWAY PARK, NY27121Feb 29, 2012
Definitely conflicted about my experience here. Friendly salesman but $30 to tighten a bottom bracket???
Had the unfortunate experience of my bike breaking down while visiting DC from out of town, so what could I do? But that wasn't enough. The mechanic proceeded with unsolicited, insulting opinions about the frame.
Lesson learned - carry your own tools if you plan on riding into Arlington. Can anyone tell me about other shops in the area that aren't so swanky?Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2012
These Cool Kats are super friendly, helpful, and informative. Totally fixed me up with my chain, Rock & Roll lube for home care, and a possible Pajama all-weather cover for my Beach Cruiser if I continue to keep it outside. (Currently exploring how/where to place it inside, so it rusts less - though, it was initially a Burning Man bike - so, meh.) Currently, my bike - known affectionately as "Pretty in Pink" - is having her Shimano gears serviced & getting some love after her cross-country move from SF. Super stoked about having this shop on this end of the river, and delighted they also shared tips on some local bike trails. #Winning

I'm a novice cyclist, only recently having started commuting to and from work. I have been to Revolution Cycles City Hub on multiple occasions, and the staff have always been very helpful in getting me set up with the basics that I need, such as a lock, rear tail light, etc. The staff has always been thoughtful to the fact that I'm easing into the sport, and don't need to buy the most expensive, top of the line products to meet my basic needs.
I walked in today with my bike- got a flat tire on the way to work. The woman behind the counter offered to sell me the tube to install myself, and when I told her I am happy to just be able to balance on the bike, she had one of the bike technicians take it in the back. It was fixed in under 15 minutes. Great for the middle of the work day. Anyone who bikes in the Crystal City area and needs work done on their bike or accessories (like the other reviews said, they do pretty much everything but sell bikes at this location), should feel confident that they will get excellent, fast and affordable service.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William K.Alexandria, VA018Nov 27, 2012
Living above the shop might make me a little biased. You can't beat the convenient location. Only a block from the Crystal City metro and easily accessible via US1 at 20th Street S.
They have great service deals and friendly knowledgeable staff. They have enough of a selection to keep me from going out of my way to a different shop when the need for shoes, parts, etc. arises. Keep in mind that this location doesn't sell bikes though. Head to the main location in Clarendon for that.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shawn H.Arlington, VA68Nov 15, 2010
Friendly staff willing to teach the DIYer a few things.

Cycling is an expensive sport to get into, so its great to find a place that lets you put your toe into the water and find out if its for you. My experiences at Revolution's other retails locations have been mixed (great equipment, uneven service), but this place always treats you right, and goes the extra mile to educate you on the sport.

The staff is really knowledgeable and friendly. The bikes they rent are very comfortable to ride and very well maintained. The rental includes a helmet a u-lock. Be sure to test the lock before you leave the shop. We had a issue with our lock and one of the staff members took the time to ride out and meet us with a new lock. Will rent again from here!!!
