One star because the cookies are tasty; I like them soft! One star because the woman working there was nice. I will not be going back for two reasons:
1. Too expensive - I'd rather spend roughly the same on gourmet cupcakes. Also, the prices don't make sense... $2.33 per cookie, $14 for 6, and $28 for 12? It is cheaper (granted, by pennies) to buy the cookies individually. I don't understand this business model.
2. Fox News was playing on the tv, which was facing out for the customers to see. I also read the review that said Trump cookies were offered during the 2016 election. I prefer my cookies to be nonpartisan.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 31, 2015Updated review
Stopped in again today after getting my eyebrows done down the street. The Key Lime cookie was totally fabulous. The Ricotta Butter one was simple and delicate. The Vanilla Butter one was great! Still have a gingersnap to try later. Yum, yum, yum.

A co-worker gifted me a box of 6 of them. I'm newer to the area and have yet to try them until yesterday.
The cookies were wrapped up beautifully with a red bow and a menu of cookie flavors for my future purchases.
I kind of had to contain myself from eating them all in an effort to save some for my husband later in the day.
I had a question regarding the ingredients in the cookies so I shot the place an email and got a super friendly and informative response in less than 6 hours.
Alone, the vanilla frosted cookie is to die for.
Maple Bacon?! Yes please! It was the perfect combination of maple-ness with just the right amount of bacon. Would have been great to have lounging by the fire in a log cabin in Vermont, type of cookie.
I won't lie, I brought 2 for lunch today. It looks like a Snickerdoodle and maybe some sort of toffee, salted, chocolate chip concoction.
Can't wait to stop by there myself some time to choose them for myself! - Jul 28, 2017Updated review
Since the move to the new location it became more inconvenient to procure cookies, and then the last two times I went the quality/flavor was off the first time the cookies were harder and almost stale with less flavor, and the next the cookies were underdone, flavor better but definitely not quite cooked long enough. Consistency used to be their mainstay at the old location great flavors and texture. I'm rethinking my love of their cookies for sure vs the drive to get them and then a disappointing experience after getting them.

In harmony w my fellow Yelpers- these cookies are really delish!
I stopped in & Kim the proprietor & baker was in shop. She is very pleasant & happy to chat about her yummy cookies. What a beautiful little shop too- open kitchen which is cute & immaculate. A cottage decorated in red w the heavenly scent of freshly baked cookies!
Gave my Mom a gift of the Lemon Poppyseed, Gingerbread, & Oatmeal raisin which was sweetly wrapped. Also, there were double chocolate cookies for sampling- which were perfect! Balance of soft middle, chocolate, sweet- delightful. Not crunchy. More cake-like but not too dense. Not too sweet. Your pallet is wholly satisfied by texture, flavor & size! They serve coffee too.
This spot is off the beaten path but so worth the trip. They ship all over the world! Make sure to visit their web site for broad variety of cookies/services- perfect gift for that special person or event. Even though this is a serious business, these cookies maintain a "home made"/ personal touch.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Paul A.New York, NY284409482Apr 9, 2015
The cookies here are pretty great. They are much more uniform, airy, and soft rather than the more artisanal flat, chewy, and buttery kind.
I suppose it all depends on your preference, but if you enjoy cookies with the consistency of the ones you get in a store but made fresh with high quality ingredients and better flavors then this place is the tops.
Of the chocolate chip cookie, snickerdoodle, and chocolate with vanilla frosting I have to say that the chocolate cookie with frosting was by far the best. While I am really impressed by the crumb of the cookies, the only one that really blew me away in the flavor department was the chocolate cookie.
The people who worked here seemed nice and the place wasn't too hard to find. While maybe not worth a super long drive, if you find yourself in Guilford or the surrounding area this place is well worth a try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Navi C.Kenilworth, NJ38211089Mar 28, 2015
I feel fundamentally ill equipped to rate a sweet shop because I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I know I know, something is wrong with me. Who am I to know anything about gourmet desserts when I rarely eat (or cook) such thing and thus have very minimum standards?
But it's the little things isn't it?
I tried the chocolate m&m and the vanilla frosting cookies and so the combination of m&ms, rainbow sprinkles, and cake frosting embody the best things from my childhood. I became a kid again lost in the velvety softness of fresh dough. My only worry was to never come to the end of my chocolate milk. Oh the simple life!
So what if I don't know anything about gourmet desserts. These cookies are reminiscent of the beauty and delight one feels in their childhood. And that's what counts so ignore the calories and sugar and indulge a little.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Denise T.Madison, CT11266Mar 23, 2019
Can not go through downtown guilford without stopping here! The cookies are to die for! Of course the chocolate chip cookies are amazing but the salted caramel and ricotta cookies are equally as good. Honestly, all their cookies are good! Just stop in...you won't regret it !

The cookies here are so freakin' awesome that everyone becomes a cookie monster at Red Rooster Gourmet Cookies! The cookies are such a sensation that I think it will eventually overtake the Guilford Green as the main attraction in town...lol!
Yelp motivated me to stop there today while visiting my folks in G-Town. The bakery is a newly constructed enclave to an existing building. Though there were not too many flavors left (geez, I wonder why), I was exciting to try the Triple Chocolate and the Margarita Icing cookies. They were baked to perfection and not at all burnt.
Even though each of their cookies is like two dollars and some change, there was a mini cookie option which was half the size for a dollar. I bought the Red Rooster special (sugar cookie with cranberry, butterscotch morsel, white chocolate morsel and regular chocolate morsel). I have to say, I liked the Red Rooster the best out of the three flavors I tried.
I will be back to try more. Hopefully in the morning when there are more flavors available. This place is definitely a stop in my perfect day in Guilford.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joe C.Montville, CT2710611820May 16, 2015Updated review
New Location: Inside the old Griswold Dept Store building.
Sorry, I mean the old Trailblazers building for you NYC transplants.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 1, 2014Previous reviewFor cookies that aren't exactly jumbo size in diameter (they're 3.5" to be exact), $4.50 might seem pricey for two. But to be honest that price isn't bad when you consider each one is very thick, very dense, and very filling.
Red Rooster sells their cookies at various outlets along the shoreline. The Shoreline Butcher Shop in Branford is sometimes where I get mine and that location is more easily accessible than their bake shop in Guilford (that's right, says the guy who lives in Madison and passes through Guilford every day).
Now I won't talk about the baker and pretend like she's a personal friend of mine (like some other Yelper). She's not, but I can easily tell you what's inside her cookies. For eggnog butter cookie the tag reads:
Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, eggnog flavoring, baking soda, salt.
No corn syrup. No hydrogenated fats. You can eat a 100 of these cookies and then run a 42 k marathon. And you'll probably win it too because everybody knows cookies are very nourishing, provide energy, and are just darn good for you. Just ask any small little kid.
If I were to make one recommendation, it might be to omit the icing on some of the cookies. I like sugar just as much as the next guy, but perhaps some cookies are a bit too sweet with the icing on top of them. - Juan M.Westport, CT30319738Feb 15, 2014
I had a friend go here for me and she brought me back a bunch of cookies from here. OMG.... These are by far the best cookies I have EVER had.
There are so many types of cookies I cant begin to rattle them off. The cookies are made fresh onsite and the owner is very friendly from what I hear.
I cant wait to go here myself! I will keep you updatedHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
