Great find! We randomly stopped in the evening and were pleasantly surprised, the food is very Sonoran and Southern Sonoran and reminds me of what I grew up with in Globe, Arizona.
Everything was delicious from the salsa to the red sauce to the chocolate mouse pie. We had a Taco dorado which was fried with the meat inside, exactly like it should be! The enchiladas suizas had a mild light green sauce and pollo was moist. The chili carne carne has very robust with mild to medium heat. The beans and rice were decadent.
The owner was very personable and friendly and we felt at home immediately. The food was very affordable and well worth the money.
If you are looking for a yummy, affordable, and satisfying meal with people that make you feel welcome, this is the place to go.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C O.Phoenix, AZ676637Mar 30, 2019
We ate here over ten years ago when we were in town. We were excited to return here and with good reason. Excellent service and the food is DELICIOUS!
Fresh salsa! We loved everything! My husband raves about the huevos rancheros. My daughter and I shared the smothered chimichanga. My daughter scarfed down the hash browns. What a delight this place is!!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 221336192Feb 1, 2018
I really used to enjoy having breakfast here but it's hit or miss. Either the posole is really good or it's horrible, lacking flavor and salt.
I miss the old Las Trankas when it was always full but the service was still great and you could stop by for sweet bread and coffee to go. I know new owners took over years ago but it has never been the same since.
Don't get me wrong, the food isn't horrible but there's just days where it's great & other days where it's not so good. I suppose it depends on how the cook is feeling that day but I rather not take the risk and just eat somewhere else or cook at home.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 22, 2019
The server did a great job. Very attentive and really worked hard. The restaurant was very clean and Everything seemed well maintained. The food was short of incredible. My tacos were like jackinthebox tacos. Some strange little fried things with putty meat inside. Fried shut so you can't even get lettuce or cheese and tomatoes inside.

Great start before golf, our Huevos Rancheros were delicious. Eggs cooked as requested, Rancheros sauce was sublime, hash-browns extra crispy, phenomenal beans! This was my third visit to Las Trakas and definitely won't be my last.
A little inside information... try the French Toast. Happy landings...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Diana E.Seattle, WA2020960Aug 21, 2018
Las Trankas never disappoints - my favorite for machaca breakfast in Rio Rico. The service is quick and friendly and the food is delicious, plentiful and reasonably priced. A solid, reliable option for Mexican (and traditional American) breakfast!

Amazing customer service, excellent food, homemade margaritas, and a bright, inviting atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you will feel well cared-for and like you at their only priority. I came in and felt like family! What a wonderful experience.

My co-worker brought me here during our lunch break while I was in town for a business trip. And it wasn't solely for the reason that it happens to be a convenient five minutes drive from the office or that there aren't really a lot of options in a sparsely populated border town, but because the food is actually really good. I've tried various Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles where the food seems more authentic to the culture but this place hits that mark.
As soon as you walk in, the place feels rustic and maybe to some a bit dated but that's the charm of the locale. The facility is clean, the servers make you feel welcome, and the value of the food is excellent. The chicken enchilada plate I ordered was tasty with soft chunky meat and not overly sauced like some places. My coworker shared her gordita with me and that was simply amazing. It was the first gordita I've ever had that was not served by the chain store with the talking chihuahua (and I do like that place too for what it's worth). It's actually completely different. I liked the gordita so much that my coworker invited me to her home the next day for lunch where her sister cooked us home made gorditas! Both excellent.
If you happen to be in town or are coming through the border region, I recommend a stop by. I'll definitely drop by on my next visit.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aimee D.Rio Rico, AZ74119Nov 1, 2015
I'm giving it 5 stars because I know you won't be disappointed. I see that the older reviews are from 2013, and they say it's gone downhill--and I agree that was true at the time. However the place literally changed overnight when it got new management a while back. The service is great and friendly. The food is great for breakfast (the potatoes ALWAYS taste fantastic) and for lunch/dinner (my boyfriend recommends the pesole (sp??)). Before I came mostly for the guacamole, but now I like going almost every week!
