Q:
Is this a dog friendly restaurant?
A:
It is dog friendly on the patio. It can get a bit chilly in the evenings year-round, so be prepared. The patio is in a nice garden setting and is perfect for a nice meal with your pet.

Staying at the hotel next door, we decided a nice walk across the way to this restaurant would be a good choice. As we approached the restaurant, three kitchen staff were outside fighting. One of them had some sort of metal pole and hit a nearby car with it while being restrained by other staff. They could have been playing as all 3 went inside within a minute, but it was not w welcoming sight.
We were seated immediately, which was nice, considering within 10mins a queue of guests started to form and had to wait. We then had the "privilege" of spending the first 15mins of our visit watching and listening to two employees arguing over tips and wages right in front of us. It was distracting and extremely unprofessional. We sat there eating chips and salsa and "watching the show". This restaurant had a whole section blocked off that they could have gone to and used for this employee issue. Finally the female employee swore and said she was quitting. Just bizarre!
Food was really good, no fault there, which is why I'm applying at least 3 stars. The flavor of the taco shell was perfect.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Aug 14, 2023
Sat in a pseudo Mission style hacienda on PCH, this place commands the title of one of the worst Mexican meals I've had. The best thing about this place is the $26 pitcher of hoppy draft beer from Firestone Walker. I ordered a New Mexico enchilada and instead of being drenched in green and red sauce, it was so chewy it was difficult to cut and eat. The fried egg was nasty, but I did eat it to be a fair evaluator. The meal sucked eggs.
The outdoor seating looks charming, but it'll generally be too bright, windy and/or cold. Inside we sat and had a waiter who seemingly was trying to upsell us on alcohol and wouldn't stop pestering us. Some of the food looks good that I saw, like the chimichangas but it's overpriced and not very good.
Like most places in the hole that's San Simeon, it's attached or inside a partially run down motor lodge from the sixties. It's expensive, the service is not great and the meal isn't very good. To be blunt, do yourself a favor and find someplace in Cambria...it's like 7 miles away.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Aug 8, 2023
My wife and I met our good friends at El Chorlito a few years back. They knew of the restaurant's food and we were happy to try it. It didn't disappoint.
I thought that I had reviewed the establishment at that time but I hadn't. We were meeting our friends there again this evening and I thought to check the latest reviews. Some of the reviews weren't very positive but I didn't let that influence our decision to dine there.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the place was busy and the staff of two hustling to accommodate everyone inside and out on the sunlit patio.
I ordered the chili verde with rice and beans as did the wife of our friend. He ordered carnitas and my wife had the chili relleno. We were all satisfied and pleased with our meals as we were several years ago.
This is New Mexico style cooking and their chili verde is exactly how my grandmother made it. She lived most of her youth in New Mexico so that is why this chili verde is so familiar to me. It's not spicy but flavorful. Their rice is good but their beans are delicious and just like Nana's.
This restaurant is a place to gather and enjoy good food. I don't need music blaring to make me enjoy the food. We were able to dine and have a great conversation.
I'm glad that El Chorlito continues to serve good food and drink and we will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Jun 27, 2023
Came here to eat on a Tuesday night. For starters there is plenty of parking outside in the front.
When we first walked in it appeared to be empty but we continue to walk through one dining area to the next.
The next dining area had people dining and a waiter.
We were seated in a comfortable little booth.
The atmosphere was very relaxed and quiet. There was no music playing or even a flat screen showing sports. Kinda of chill for a taco Tuesday.
We were seated at a booth and we got to admire the amazing beach view. Our waiter came and he took our drink orders and then came back with our drinks and complimentary salsa and chips.
We ordered the beans for our appetizer. For our main meal I had the shrimp enchiladas and my husband had the macho burrito carne asada.
Everything was delicious and the macho burrito was huge. I've never seen a burrito that big.
I cannot remember the name of our server but he was great. Thank you and see you again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 26, 2023
I'll be honest, I wasn't so sure after reading reviews what to think. People either loved or hated this place, I'm mixed Filipino-Spanish-Mexican and my fried tilapia was delish. We celebrated my Moms 73rd and she liked her chile relleno. The sauce on her enchilada was different, Néw Mexico style spices? She didn't eat it. But everything else was good- oh salsa was yummy! Beers hit the spot after Hearst castle tour.
I would definitely return. Our server Kathleen was friendly and caring for 6 tables solo- you go girl!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Freddie N.Lemoore, CA12238Mar 2, 2024

Most everyone was seated on the dog friendly patio, but it was a little bright at 6pm. A young man direct d me and Georgia to a table and brought out chips and salsa and took drink order. Alcohol was on the expensive side. We ordered Chile rellenos suggested by the host at Morgan where we stayed next door. We had our modelos in the room and on our walk down to the beach before dinner.
There were also some Dutch and Mexican tourists on the patio. We arrived early for the sunset at 8:25 but did watch the sun go down with an ocean view from the patio. The better seats had our back to the sun. The plastic chairs were kind of flimsy and looked like they might break if I leaned back.
The food hasn't arrived yet but I'm expecting it will be good. It took a while. The beans and Chile relleno were good. The rice not so much flavor. Overall kind of bland with a little spice from the Chile relleno. Georgia gets the rice and leftover beans. Actually she didn't like the rice either.
It got a little chilly even with jeans and long sleeve shirt as the sun went down after 6:15pm in mid July. Overall overpriced but that's the area. $23 for a Chile relleno and water with tax and tip.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Adrian B.Clovis, CA01Apr 20, 2024
A 2 star because was good service good environment but the food wasn't worth the price. I know due to it being in the bay but the food wasn't cooked right, cheeseburger was still pink in the middle and now I been throwing up all morning thanks.
