If I could give them zero stars I absolutely would. Yesterday I decided that I no longer wanted to rent a unit from Public Storage due to their ridiculous costs and increases. I did however secure a unit with another company that has larger units for a fraction of the costs. I notified the facility (spoke with Trinity) that I'd be vacating the unit and they advised that I would have to vacate by 12/31 in order to not incur the monthly rent for the month of January. Cool no problem since I already paid for another unit elsewhere . I was then advised that the elevator is out of service and the anticipated date of repair is after the new year. This is where the problem began, my unit is on the second floor so elevator access is absolutely necessary. The only thing that was offered was stairwell access during office hours which is another problem because I'm paying to access my unit during gate hours. I advised Trinity that this is now an ADA issue which can turn into a legal matter. I asked her what reasonable accommodations could be offered since the elevator was out and she asked me was I "handicap"and told me absolutely nothing else could be done to accommodate me and then intentionally disconnected the call. Also their practice of collecting a full months rent if you move out after the last day of the month and having the ability to rent that unit out immediately after you vacate and collect another full months rent (rent from you and the new tenant) is absolutely illegal. I'm going to fight to the end to make sure these illegal practices are put to an end and that their employees receive additional training in customer service.
Update: I received a call back from the district manager and the matter was resolved to my satisfaction.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Acacia S.Pleasanton, CA685Mar 1, 2024
It starts out fine, then they slowly jack up the rent. I'm paying almost 200% more now than I was when I opened this unit 4 years ago. That's about a 50% rate increase a year.

Great service. Maria helped me and she was friendly and informative to all of my questions. I appreciated working with her.

6 months - the only elevator in the main building was down for 6 months, y'all. Their saving grace was that they did not charge those of us depending on the elevator (I was on the 3rd floor) any rent during that period, but man... 6 months?!!
I gave it three stars because the place is clean, and the staff was very calm considering how many people must have complained during that time.
The rent went up in the first 6 months that I had the space. I need to buy a storage facility!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Jun 16, 2021Previous reviewThe place is clean, I'll grant them that.
Look, storage is a total scam. I have used Public Storage off and on for years because there were and still are so few options available. Public Storage has the infrastructure and this is where they take advantage of their customers. It's hard to move out of a storage space, and they bank on that.
I haven't had the current storage space one year and they've already increased my monthly rent. The staff at this location is decent - at least some are. Others seem like they could care less. The carts have been stolen or broken several times since I have been at this location, so they lock them up sometimes and you need to find someone to unlock them.
The most recent issue is the elevator - the ONLY elevator that we can use to access our things. I am on the top floor. I need some personal documents for job verification and I cannot find anyone in the office to let me up. The elevator has been broken for over a week, and apparently they expect it to be broken for a few more WEEKS... WTF?!! - Tywain W.Oakland, CA543110197May 22, 2021Updated review
I'm a customer of this storage ... It has been the worst decision we have made in a long time.. My Storage Is Upstairs On The 3RD Floor.. WHT IS THE ELEVATOR BROKEN..??!!?! Why When I Started Taking My Stuff Upstairs Today. It Was An Old Elderly Women Trying So Hard To Come Down The Stairs.. OMFG I WAS JUST MAD TILL I SEEN HER.. NOW IM PISSED OFF..!! HOW IN THE HELL DO U EXPECT HER TO GET TO HER STUFF..!!
If it wasn't just junk in my storage I would move if it was something I cared about.. ILL JUST TAKE THE INSURANCE MONEY CAUSE ITS BOUND TO GET BROKEN INTO AGAIN..!! They Left The Stairs Open So U Off The Street.. So U Can Just Go Take What U Want.. They Don't Care.. It's usually a staff of head scarfs so if they not doing they on hair u know they can care less bout yo ..Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Dec 3, 2020Previous reviewI've had a storage here for bout a year now.. Today I Go To Gather Somethings I Need And My Fiancé Beet Me To The Door And Says Somebody Tried To Break Into Our Unit.. I'm Like Yeah Right.. They Got Cameras.. Nope They Don't Have Cameras On Every Level To View All Lockers .. Why Not..!!?!? U Can Amazon That .. We Definitely Pay Enough ... We Pay For A Secure Unit Which This Is Not The Case.. So I Then Tell Mangement Who Says Someone Will Contact Me In 7 Days Or I Can Pay For A Lock Smith To Come Out.. WTF..?!?
U Know This Is Not The Service That We Are Receiving Is Unacceptable..May 2, 2020Previous reviewI'm a customer already trying to gain access to my storage. Access hours 6 to 6 but today I have to wait for an employee does not even here yet to open a facility for 930. What happened to the three hours ago access time. My code is good.. monthly fee was debited out of my account this morning.. but I don't have access to my storage.. If It was that easy to just pick up and take all my stuff out I would.

Seriously, these people are terrible. They gaslit my hubby telling him that it wasn't their fault the unit flooded and the support rep hung up on him.

After going online and seeing that they were offering spaces for cheaper, we got a larger space for less than the monthly payment we'd been making before. That's weird, we thought, but went ahead and moved our stuff.
Fast forward to 2 days ago, we get an urgent call from them. Our unit had flooded after the rains. Hmmm, that's probably why the new unit was so cheap, eh? And why did we get a call more than 1 day after the heavy rain?
We lost family heirlooms and my 30 year record collection (and a bunch of other stuff). Do not give these scammers your money. - Michelle B.San Francisco, CA01Feb 22, 2023
My brother and I needed to downsize the storage unit we've had in an upstairs floor for several years at this location. I was pleasantly surprised at the process. I talked to Maria in the office and let her know that we really wanted to get another one on the same floor, if possible, and --- it was possible! She was super helpful and really made a moving project I had been dreading into one that went smoothly.

They're ass. Find somewhere else. Elevator barely works. Don't get a ground level unit. Itll flood when it rains

If you'd like your rate to increase by 32% (from $259 to $341) after you've had your space for 4 months while the highest advertised rate online is still only $280 for a unit the same size, then rent here!
On the other hand, if you think that's a terrible customer experience then consider renting a storage space elsewhere.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Glenn F.Berkeley, CA073Dec 2, 2021
This place will increase the their rates without notice. We originally rented a 5' x 10' unit at $90/month in 2013. Our last monthly bill was $247. They simply rely on the "inconvenience of moving factor' as a means of retaining their clients.
