PS Fabrics closes at the end of June, and I for one will miss them terribly. They were a well-stocked store with great prices, staffed by some of the nicest people in the world.
Even now, with everything on sale for 80% off and fixtures for sale, they've got tons of fabric left. I highly recommend that if you have any need for fabrics, swing by and check them out; you never know.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vanster A.San Jose, CA12611Mar 3, 2012
I have no idea about knitting and went here to get my knitting supplies for a beginner's class. so, all i had was type of yarn and size of the needles, not really knowing what it meant. I looked around the huge selection of yarn and needles and didn't know what to get. I asked the serious looking guy at the checkout counter. He actually walked me through the different isles of the yarn and showed me what kind of yarn i needed, and he also told me what the different prices in the same kind entail. Then he didn't have the size of the needle i needed, but showed me alternatives and guided me through how different sizes are useful.
He might not have a smile on his face but was very helpful, and was not annoyed with any of my silly questions. The selection of yarn and needles was very vast for knitting, and best part is everything is very very very cheap. I would definitely go here for any of my future knitting supplies.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Taiyo O.New York, NY9015901085Feb 16, 2014
Most of the fabric stores were closed on Sunday except this store and I was pleased to come to this soon-to-be-disappeared old NY store (it's only my assumption). It's a reality though, sad to see those old places closing one by one. If you haven't been here, stop by. You may find something under the dust.
Not only I was able to find what I needed, the lady, helping me, was a sweat lady. She was charming and efficiently find what I was looking for and showing me a new things that might help on my project.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michele P.San Jose, CA681411240Apr 12, 2016
So the place is closing as soon as they sell out most of the fabric. Definitely drop in if you'd like a discount on sewing materials, trim, fabric, crochet materials. It looked like everything was at least 25% off. Fabrics were at least 35% off. Found lots of tulle for $1/yard and then rolls that were 6" by 25' for $1.50 a roll. Seemed like a great deal for wedding decor. I'm assuming that the discounts will go up over the next couple of weeks but things are already being cleared out.
Staff was very helpful in finding what I was looking for.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kat M.Brooklyn, NY3181Apr 6, 2016
CLOSING SOON! :(
Found this place for the first time yesterday, but they're having a "leaving the business" sale with very deep discounts. Go now before they're gone. Remember to check the basement too for more upholstery, vinyls, etc.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Yuan S.New York, NY6554147Feb 20, 2016
The only good thing about this place was that it is open on Sunday.
I prefer quality over quantity. I get that this place is great because it is cheap, but the customer service in this place is awful. I didn't appreciate being yelled at because it was very condescending. Customer service is what bring consumers back and it was the only thing that was truly disappointing. I will not be coming back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sylvia P.New York, NY12724Jun 2, 2015
Wall to ceiling fabrics, trimmings, notions for nearly all your sewing needs for great prices. If you're claustrophobic or wide of girth you might want to take a pass since the store is a bit of an organized clusterf**k but otherwise I think it will meet most sewing/crafty needs. I wouldn't go here for more high end stuff though. The store didn't open on time but I doors were open by the time I got back from an ATM run.
The owner took good care of me even though he was busy as the only one there. He even checked to make sure I was buying the correct length for my project since the fabric I picked out came in 2 sizes.
This place is one of the last pieces of old(ish) New York; I hope it doesn't go the way of places like Pearl Paint (RIP!) and holds out against the Duane Reades and banks setting out to take over every last inch of the city!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Anju T.New York, NY1519Jul 15, 2015
They had a many color of embroidery floss but they sold it for $0.68 for each piece. Quite expensive. They sold for no more than $0.35 in all the other places I went to. In addition to the floss the yarn and trimming doesn't have the best price either.

After dim sum today, of course I decide to walk home and OF COURSE I end up spending all of that extra money (that I had previously saved by going to dim sum and paying $11 for lunch) on a fabric shopping excursion.
Even so, it was worth it! This place is a great downtown find for a huge selection of fabrics and also boasts plenty of trimmings (ribbon, trim, buttons, etc.) to keep you happy. Their remnants section is also impressive -- 75% off the ticketed price, and they are LARGE remnants -- at least a yard as far as I can tell.
ON TOP OF THAT (this is for you, Madeline!), they carry a ridiculous selection of yarns, with bins upon bins of skeins for your perusal.
Definitely check this place out if you are hunting for fabrics, craftware, trimmings, thread, warehouses, outhouses, henhouses, doghouses, etc.... (j/k about the latter, but you get the picture!).
Big plus: Open on Sundays and accepts credit cards!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Tina C.Vancouver, Canada283Sep 21, 2009Updated review
Maybe I've not noticed before, but they have 2 long racks of pre-cut fabric (most 60" wide, some 45" wide) at 75% discount. Some hidden gems are enough for a skirt or even a dress and cost less than $3/yard!
I must reiterate how incredibly convenient it is to have all patterns, fabric, zippers, accessories and tools in one place at very reasonable prices. You get everything you need in one swoop.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 17, 2009Previous reviewAside from being closed on Saturdays (for religious reasons), this store has everything you need for your sewing project (shears, patterns, fabric, a ton of accessories, yarn, zippers of all colors and sizes, etc.). Most stores in the Garment District *only* sell fabric, which is annoying when you want to buy thread or a snap at the same time.
It's one of the very very few stores that is open on Sunday. They don't sell sewing machines but can recommend partner stores. Their fabric selection is great, but not as international and/or exotic as stores in the Garment District. But the prices on average are lower than in the Garment District.
The guys there are really helpful too (though a little quirky).
