I just spend a long weekend at the wonderful Portobello Inn. My bedroom, the Small room, was extremely comfortable with a comfortable Queen size bed, very efficient air conditioning, and a bathroom/shower with plentiful warm water. Each morning's amazing breakfast was exceptional and my hosts Roland/Steve were very accommodating, If I was ever hungry, it would have been my own fault, but each morning's breakfast got me started in fine fashion! One morning my hosts allowed my sister to enjoy the breakfast with me, even though she was not a guest. The Inn is an oasis from the busy world and while I was staying there it allowed me to finish one book, and take in all the ambiance of a richly appointed Inn. The Portobello is ideally situated so that I could easily get to Utica, Herkimer, and the wonderful Little Falls Canal Days celebration during my stay, Driving a car is a delight in the Mohawk Valley!
Just an ideal place to stay full of peace, quiet, and friendly conversation. Thanks Roland and Steve!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James E.Chicago, IL33Dec 11, 2016
My daughter and I stayed there for several nights. We came in from chicago and wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast. The rooms were great, the breakfast was even better, and the hosts were even GREATER!
Lots of history in the area. Read "Drums along the Mohawk" to get a feel for the area. General Herkimer's house is nearby. Fort Stanwix isn't far away and it's fort has been rebuilt to the exact specs of the original. Another book or audio book is "With Musket and Tomahawk" by Michael Logusz. You will understand the importance of the Mohawk Valley. You are staying in the heart of the valley. The Portobello Inn is historical in its own right. I tried a little metal detecting in the area.
Enjoy the food and the great conversations. We will return!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Story G.Hamilton Township, NJ14Apr 6, 2014
My husband and I have stayed here twice, and both times Roland was the consummate good host. The beauty of the house is matched only by his ability to cook the best bacon I've ever had. The Portobello Inn's rooms are lovely and clean, with books and games right outside in the reading nook to help you pass a quiet evening.
We've stayed at several B&Bs over the years, this is our favorite. We will definitely be back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Madeleine L.San Francisco, CA302Dec 8, 2018
I highly recommend this charming B&B! The warmth and hospitality extended by the owners made me feel so comfortable and at home. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully served. It worked really well for me on a work trip- fast wifi, convenient location and quiet, comfortable surroundings with the comforts of home. Thank you Roland and Father Steve for a most memorable stay!

The Portobello Inn hosted a baby shower for us and it was wonderful! The owners were so nice and a pleasure to work with. They were accommodating and helpful. The food was fantastic and I had several guests mention that. I would highly recommend this venue for an event. I know they can accommodate large groups but it was perfect for my party of 15. The set up was done in a u shape so it was easy to interact and enjoy all of the guests.

We have stayed at the Portobello Inn more times than I can remember for several years. The Innkeepers are very welcoming, the breakfasts are fantastic and generous. Roland remembers exactly what you like to eat. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. Located right between Herkimer and Little Falls, the location is ideal for either town. Plenty of rooms to sit and read and a piano if you feel inclined to play. We love the Portobello Inn and it always feels like coming home.

Checked in again this weekend for another family wedding, and once again had a wonderful stay. The property is lovely and full of interesting antiques, the breakfast is delicious and the owner, Roland, is a most gracious host. Looking forward to a repeat visit for the next family gathering.

The owners have done a lovely job restoring a beautiful 1850s Italianate mansion. Furnishings are sparse in some of the public rooms, but the guest rooms are well-outfitted, lovely, comfortable, clean and well maintained. The breakfast is outstanding, and not just because our gracious host Roland served a very generous helping of delicious bacon. In an area with limited accommodations, this is a shining star.

This is the most incredible stay we have ever had! If I could give it 10 stars, I would. The staff went above and beyond for us. My girlfriend is lactose intolerant and cannot have gluten due to a previous surgery. They tailored her menu for breakfast; who does that??? They did. The rooms were immaculately clean and spacious (much better than a hotel room) You get your own bathroom (not community). They have a kurieg coffee machine in the common-way for coffee anytime you want it. We saw a staff member as we were headed out for lunch and he said he was going to the market and if we needed anything he could pick up for us; again, who does that??? They did. Just probably the best out of town experience for a few days we have ever had. I have family in that area and I can assure you we will be staying there from now on. Military discount too!!! Just a great stay!!!!
