WOW! Always love BBQ and this is good as it gets. I cannot believe I have not heard of this place in the Orlando area.
This is a fantastic BBQ place. Don't let the outside view surprise you. When you walk in you will experience that Southern BBQ smokey smell and you taste buds will not be disappointed. The chopped and sliced pork sandwiches were fantastic. The food just melts in your mouth. The have 5 or 6 different BBQ sauces you can use. All are great, but the sweet was our favorite. You have to try the Dirty Taters, Summer Slaw, & Baked Beans as side items. They are fantastic.
You order at the counter and then sit down. The decor is really neat with all types of photo's. Oh, and the staff is wonderful.
To me this is now the best BBQ place in metro Orlando. -

Delicious rib eye sandwich and dirty potatoes! Pork is so good too!

Review from Brandi B.
These collard greens are perfection, good garlic bread and the Brunswick stew is very satisfying...but, my ribs were a bit dry and tasted slightly of freezer burn.
I love the variety of BBQ sauce they have- 6 different ones. Moist, tender chicken, decent sliced pork, OK mac 'n cheese, OK dirty taters (red potatoes cooked with butter and onions, as far as I can tell).
Really good service, very conscientious employees. You know it's not too bad because local law enforcement love this place- 2 sheriffs eating when we came in and 2 police officers eating when we left.
Bottled beer only, if you feel so inclined. Oh, and another plus is the drive-thru. Drive-thru BBQ, yay!Listed in: Still searching for 5 star BBQ

Porkie's Original Barbeque: When in Apopka
Porkie's is located on the hub (i.e. Main Street/U.S. 441) of Apopka. I stopped by last week for a quick bite before tubing down Rock Springs. It's a no-frills joint- and I like that way when it comes to southern barbeque. My concern, and so should yours, was only how good the bbq would taste.
Porkie's didn't disappoint. I had a Lunch Special for $8.50, which entailed a pulled pork sandwich, a choice of 2 sides, and included a non-alcoholic drink. Judiciously heaped, compressed pork on a soft bun completed the task of my satiation. The meat itself was flavorful of charred smoke and was slightly on the drier side. The sides- we ordered 2 separate plates- were good too (mac-n-cheese, bbq beans, and seasoned taters). I did, however, LOVE the collard greens. They were cooked perfectly- slowly rendered for several hours with generous amounts of pork, it was soft and each bite was absent of that tough plant fiber which ideally shouldn't belong in there anyway. They also gave me some pepper vinegar to douse the collards with. It imparted a tart and spicy twist to any already delicious side.
The service was exceptional. Granted that they weren't packed, at least two different staff members stopped by each table to check and see if everything was working well. On another note, they have a variety of sauces- including that Carolina vinegar kind... I call it 'dip'. Ranging from mild-sweet to xxx, they were all good but not too sweet. I actually liked that, but some southern boys would probably care for the sauce to be sweeter.
IN A NUT SHELL: Reasonable price-points for good food. Staff members are friendly and will gladly assist you in narrowing down your choices when they ring-up your order at the counter. Try the different sauces they have- chili-heads will love the mean, spicy ones. -

Gettin' No Respect
I love Porkies. You walk into the place and are smacked with an awesome, smoky smell that would make you pat yourself down to insure that you are not in the midst of spontaneous combustion.
You can then direct your eyes to the chalkboard by the door, which indicates the current specials. Order them, with your side(s) of choice; they cover all the good stuff like fried pickles to collard greens. Whatever meat you get, be it snausage, a pulled pork samich, or some chicken, it will be delicious but their sides are where they really shine.
Their summer slaw cannot be beat, believe me, I have tried everything around, slawise. The collards are Tony the Tiger, pickles are awesome and the prices are very reasonable.
What made me gag, is to not see these guys on Orlando Weekly's top 3 BBQ joints. They were beat by Sonny's, that P.O.S. chain, which is totally bogus and Bubba Lou's, which is not as good. 4Rivers has better meat but the sides can't hold a torch, personally.
So, I will tip my hat to you Porkie's, as it seems no one else wants to. Good service, good prices and the second best BBQ around...but the best sides.

Review from Dale O.
We stopped in today for a late lunch after attending a local event. With the memory of recently enjoying the best ribs I can remember still fresh in my mind, I had to order spare ribs.
Big, meaty, and very oaky smoky (and salty), they were very good. If I hadn't just been to the Backwoods Smokehouse.....
Anyway, the service was prompt and friendly, and the order was delivered quickly and correctly.
The choice of side dishes is a welcome change from the usual corn, beans or fries, they also offer black eyed peas, Brunswick stew, collard greens, and "dirty potatoes."
Dirty potatoes are small cubes of red potatoes roasted with garlic, onions and black pepper. Very good, I recommend them.
A variety of six sauces are offered on each table.
Flavors include mild, sweet, sweet hot, mustard, Carolina vinegar (yum!) and XXX. Pepper vinegar is there for your greens, as well.
A roll of paper towels is on every table, and you're gonna need them!
Restrooms were clean, if a bit funky. In the ladies room there are shower curtains on the stalls instead of doors.
Outside seating is available, if you like.
I wish I could give three and a half stars, this really is a pretty good BBQ joint, easily the best in the vicinity, in my opinion.
Maybe after my next visit I'll bump it up to four stars.
If you're in the area its worth a visit, fer sure. -

I can't say enough about Porkie's. The barbeque is amazing, the sauces are great. The location will be expanding to hold more people soon, so there will be more parking and more seats.
Porkie's also does special smoking orders (I've been told that you can order a turducken by a coworker) as well as catering. They catered a 50 person work party for us and they were on time and the food was hot and fresh. It's definitely worth the trip to Apopka!Listed in: Top Restaurants

I have driven by this joint many times on Main St. in the heart of Apopka. Today I slammed on the breaks once I smelled the smokey goodness coming out of the chimneys.
Usually I can judge how good the food is by what kind of vehicles are parked outside. You know you've found the right spot when you see contractor vans and the like littered all over the place. Today around 3pm there were only 4 or 5 vehicles out front so my usual litmus test wasn't going to help me out here. Anyways I ventured in on shear hunger alone.
Once I opened the door the aroma was almost overpowering! WOW! If I could just bottle that scent for some after shave or something I'd make millions. I fell in love. Not with the counter girl you fool, although a cutie, I'm married.
There was much to choose from the menu board and the daily specials. So I ordered the pulled pork and chose 2 sides baked beans and green beans. With a drink it came in a little less than $10. Almost double of what my lunch usually costs, so I'm thinking this had better be good. Well since I'm always on the road I had to eat in the car. I know I know save it.....you want to hear the story or what?
So there I was driving down the road hit the stop light and started to prepare my sandwich with the different hot barbecue sauces they packed for me. Once I bit into that bad boy, Woah Nellie! Great pulled pork I tellya. I kicked it up a notch with the "triple x" sauce and BOOYAH now we got a winner! I skarfed that sucker down in no time.
Now usually because I got a little stomach I leave the sides till later but I guess the fire in my mouth needed some flame retardation. So I started in on the green beans. WHAT IN THE HELL!?! It's only friggin green beans, how is it tasting this good? Maybe its the chunky smoked meat they cook in with it? Hmmmmmmm?
Now I'm thinking the baked beans have got to be good right? WRONG ! Not just good, they were off the hizzook. It had a sweet and smokey taste with a hidden I have no clue flavor in it. I found myself staring at the cup with each bite thinking what in the hell did this guy just do to me with this simple little smokehouse?
It was a journey my friends a journey I tellya. Go there and climb aboard! -

Every BBQ joint I go to, I judge them solely on their pulled pork sandwich - because it's my absolute favorite pork item. However, as incredible as their pulled pork is - it cannot touch their smoked ribeye sandwich! Imagine a philly cheesesteak with peppers and onions and mushrooms - without the cheese, and with all the smoky goodness of a proper BBQ spot. Even the mushrooms tasted smoky! Unless you're starving, take a friend to help you eat this sandwich, or just leave the bun - it's huge.

yum! For us, it is worth the 30-minute drive to eat at Porkie's. A real BBQ joint.

I read the reviews before I went here and expected good food. We ordered the beef plate and the combo plate w/ chicken and beef to go and once I got home and looked at the servings, I could not believe it cost $24!! Tiny sides and small amounts of meat and it wasn't very good at all!! all we tasted on the beef was fat!! I will never go here again!

A great place with a friendly local atmosphere. We visited this past weekend and for the first time ate inside. The food is great! I had the pulled pork sandwhich and side of baked beans and cole slaw. The slaw is not as sweet as would like but has a vinegar taste to it. The pork is tender and the sauce is wonderful. The beans were great as were the dirty taters. The banana pudding was also very good. The owner saw that we were there with my son and gave him the pudding for free to "See him smile". Everyone there was very friendly and the service was great. They really make you feel at home. We are also going to be using them to cater my son's first birthday. I can't wait!

I've never had the chance to actually sit down and eat at Porkie's, but my step-dad and I did have them cater my mom's birthday, and it was excellent! Steve was really nice, gave us a great deal. We had about 50 people to feed, and had plenty of food! They delivered and helped with the set up. The food was delicious!

All the traditions of the South in Porkies BBQ - their basics are excellent [ribs, pulled pork!] but also the collard greens, real Southern sweet baked beans, pidgeon peas and the best - dirty potatoes.....
Service was really good, friendly, welcoming. They have tables outside so we took our dog.
Be prepared for a real slice of life in the other customers.....
