Was hoping for a quick pizza to go one night and since this place is around the corner from me figured it didn't hurt to try.
Beware- in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, none of the workers were wearing face masks and didn't see any gloves around.
Social distancing guidelines were not enforced and there was even a couple sitting at one of the booths while all the rest of the state was on lockdown.
I seriously contemplated just leaving without the pizza I paid for (hoping the germs died in the oven).
When I called in the order they said 30 minutes but I had to go back twice and an hour later it was finally ready for me.
The pizza itself was decent, crust was good and the toppings as I asked for.
But seeing how they don't care about hygiene during the time of a pandemic.... I'll spare my health next time.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clarissa C.New Britain, CT2088Dec 13, 2019
On top of the disrespectful employees the food was completely forgettable. The pizza bland and the wings that looked two weeks old. Save yourself time and energy and don't ever order from here.

Moved to New Britain! Whole new world of food :)
Just ordered a medium pizza with half cheese and half Hawaiian, along with mozzarella sticks and a 2 liter at 7:52pm. Guy over the phone was nice. Let's see what happens!
Wow! 8:22 and its here. Pics and review to follow!
Pizza was REALLY good. Great cheese. Cooked perfectly. Mozzarella sticks were good too. Marinara sauce was on point flavor wise. A little less water would be better.
Overall good experience!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jenelly A.San Francisco, CA02Feb 22, 2018

I am in the W Hartford area as a Kitchen Trainer opening the first Bar Louie in the great state of Connecticut, located in Blue Back Square, so I have a "little" bit of food experience...
Pizza Express is of the very few places open until 11pm for dining in, carry out OR delivery...so I figured I'd give it a shot.
My first experience was with the mango-hab wings, and a sausage and meatball grinder.
The wings were not world beaters, but they were hot and crispy, but not dried out.
The meatball and sausage grinder was good hot, as well as the next day cold.
Their prices are reasonable, and their menu is pretty large.
The delivery time was less than expected as well.
We'll see what the second experience has in store for me.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julia W.Manchester, CT252205421Mar 17, 2013
Last night we ordered some late night snacks from Pizza Express to enjoy during the UFC fight. I was told I had to pick the order up, as it was not available for delivery "that far." The house was 1.3 miles (5 min.) away. Clearly they heard a different town name and didn't bother using a map/GPS to check the actual distance. So, I drove to pick it up. Not a big deal, but annoying nonetheless.
We ordered a large meat lovers pizza, a medium veggie pizza, and two orders of mozzarella sticks. The total was $47.63. Am I the only one who thinks this is an astronomical amount for pizzas and mozzarella sticks? The menu posted on Yelp and the business's website lists the mozz sticks at $4.05, but I was charged $6.50 for them. Quite honestly, they were worth the $6.50, but I never appreciate such a large price discrepancy.
Both pizzas were delicious. Lots of toppings, plenty of cheese, not too saucey, good crust. The mozzarella sticks really stole the show. It seems they are beer battered, were quite large, and served with a tasty marinara.
Final opinion: The food is great. It really is. But it's on the pricey side for pizza.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Irene B.Plantsville, CT212Nov 11, 2017Updated review
This is my favorite place to get pizza. Great crust. Lots of fresh veggies. Always cooked to perfection. Never had anything I didn't like. Great staff. Friendly & curtious. A place you should definitely try.

Not only do they have the *best* lasagna around, their delivery dude went waaaay out of his way to please us. He ran an errand for us (bought cigarettes) without question. Was back with our $$ and cigs really fast...
The lasagna's as good as ever. And I must tell you that their salads are very good (for this caliber of food).
The big five-star goes to them for the fact that their food's a good value;and their employees are absolutely wonderful! Above and beyond the call of duty!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Mar 14, 2010Previous reviewVery good pizza -- and we're really hard to please.
Their marinara sauce is also very good. We ask for some to dip sides of garlic bread into.
Sandwiches, salads and dinners are the usual culprits. Exceptional was, of all things, their lasagna dinner and their shells with marinara sauce and meat balls. The meat balls, and the lasagna, were seasoned with a very, very nice mixture of spices. It almost tasted Turkish or Hungarian. I actually found myself going back for the lasagna twice.
This is the best of this kind of delivery service we've had in this area. We're frequently trapped by a good friend whose office is in downtown New Britain and who ordered from a horrible pizza chain until we started digging around for better.
The two times we've called, however, the person who answers the phone is so vapid and clueless we found it mildly disturbing. Be prepared to spend about fifteen minutes repeating an order (for four people) over and over again until they get it right. And mind you, it's nothing like a problem with the English language; it's just a "lights are on but nobody's home" kinda problem. It could be solved if they just got someone other than high-schoolers to answer the phone... - Chad A.New Britain, CT041Sep 15, 2013
Consistently good. I ordered a medium pizza with riccota, broccoli, sausage, and garlic. It was excellent. I also have ordered a buffalo chicken calzone and buffalo chicken grinder which are really good too.

For the area that it is located in, Pizza Express is far above the other options. The pizza is a thin crust style with plenty of toppings and cheese. The Menu itself has plenty of options for food, ranging from wings and burgers to pizza to gyros. This could be bad or good, depending on how you look at it.
By far, the best options for food are the pizza and the calzones. The pizza is a little more expensive than other options in town, but the amount of toppings and cheese make up for it. They also have a pretty tasty crust, which is usually well cooked. My personal favorite item is the calzone, they are really good there. They usually have the right balance of ricotta to mozz, and dont skimp on any other toppings you get with it. Their calzone is my personal favorite there, I get mine with pepperoni and sometimes bacon. The drawback the getting either pizza or a calzone is that the toppings are not the best quality. Because of this, they can be really greasy.
The only other item that I've had there besides pizza or calzone is a burger and bacon cheddar fries. What a mistake, the burger was dismal. The lettuce was cooked into the cheese, leaving it warm and soggy. The burger patty was bland, and the whole thing was just a greasy mess. The fries were ok, but the bacon bits they used in it were thick and chewy, and had a strange consistency to me. I do not plan on ordering anything but a pizza or calzone from there again.
Overall, Pizza Express is a good option for a decent pizza and a great calzone. They do sell pizza by the slice, and have really good takeout lunch specials you can order in store. I would not order anything other than that though, I personally have not had a good experience there with anything else.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
