Making it to a 6:15PM pilates class on a week night is no easy feat. I need to schedule a week ahead at least to make it happen and shift a lot around in the process. Twice I've done that to make it to Pilates 580 and twice the class has been cancelled within a few hours of its start time. By the time I've received news of the cancellations via email it's too late to get a class elsewhere sorted out. (And my carefully laid plans to get in a workout are kaput.)
I don't know if I've simply been unlucky, or if these kinds of last minute cancellations are common at Pilates 580. What I do know is that it's extremely disappointing.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Miriam!
I apologize for the inconvenience. We have had numerous problems with our scheduling through class pass which it looks like was the reason for your canceled classes. Since we have had such an issue with scheduling through class pass, we are no longer using them. We rarely ever cancel a class unless its a holiday or someone has an emergency. Please come back and give us a second chance!

I've been training privately with both Laura and Deva. They are skilled, knowledgeable instructors. But more importantly, they're kind and caring individuals. I love the studio;it's got great light and a good layout. Cozy but not confined. If you're interested in learning and/or advancing your practice in classic Pilates, this is a great studio.
Getting there and parking is pretty easy too, especially if you're a local.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ro D.Los Angeles, CA9623545Sep 22, 2010
You feel an immediate sense of comfort from the first moment you meet Laura, the owner of, and instructor at Pilates 580. Although I've practiced Pilates at home for several years, I grew eager to begin formal classes to stay fit and begin strength training. I started with the beginner class, until I was strong enough to graduate into the intermediate class, where the exercises and techniques are highly advanced.
Laura adjusts each work out to the limits of your body... and often changes the weekly routine to keep your workouts new and challenging. Treat your body to a workout with Laura, where you'll leave feeling stronger, more balanced, and dripping with sweat.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Fe B.Berkeley, CA14111Jun 21, 2011
Since going to Pilates 580, my posture and gait have so improved, I am now doing speed walks of 5 miles an hour! And this after having suffered chronic knee pain for 20 years and the inability to go down a flight of stairs without clutching a handrail.
Reformer, mat and chair work have saved my spine, my knees and my spirit, and being able to dance again is pure joy. Special thanks to my Pilates trainer Lala Darrah at Pilates 580. She has helped me regain my body's strength, and my well being.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bentley C.San Francisco, CA261811Oct 30, 2011
Professional. Very effective all around conditioning. Highly affordable. I have been a client for over a year. In the beginning, I was 230 pounds, could barely touch my knees and was weak.. Now I am 205 pounds and am doing exercises I never thought I would be able to do. My flexibility and strength are dramatically improved. The owner, Laura, is a great teacher/trainer. She will challenge you as much as you can take and then some.
I go three times per week and every lesson introduces something new and shows great variety. This is an intense and healthy workout which never is boring.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ernie M.Oakland, CA027Mar 18, 2015
While driving on hwy 580 after a great group class with Laura, I realized the same attn. we practice driving (look 10 cars ahead, scan right, scan left, gaze into rear view mirror, hands in place, repeat) reminded me of the way Laura helps us stabilize our joints with skillful reminders of alignment and effort. Constant attention and amazing spot on hands-on assists.
Her classes don't waste anytime letting you know where you need to build strength. So fun, creative and efficient. Great location too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michael W.Oakland, CA323426Oct 21, 2009
Pilates 580 won the Best of the East Bay last year and is an excellent place to take Pilates mat and/or reformer classes. The instructors (Laura & Angela) are excellent instructors and lead the classes in a fun yet challenging way. My posture, flexibility and overall strength have improved since taking Pilates with Laura.
The Pilates 580 Studio is easy to get to, their is plenty of parking, and the Studio itself is clean and attractive.
I highly recommend Pilates 580!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Margaret G.Alameda, CA95013Oct 16, 2014
This is my 1st time trying Pilates, as an out of shape, non-athletic 50 something. I'm lucky to be able to take one of Laura's lunchtime mat and tower classes. The space is beautiful and private. Laura makes me feel welcomed and comfortable, while tailoring Pilates to individual needs.
Laura explains things clearly, with a nice dose of humor, and is very warm. That is not to say this has been easy for me, but I feel better and stronger after only 3 sessions.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clare T.Oakland, CA07Sep 27, 2018
Laura is a gifted and generous teacher. I leave work outs feeling limber and flexible after working up a good sweat. My body has gotten stronger and more flexible in the few short months that I've been working with Laura. So glad I found this place!

This place is really Great! Low key relaxing environment! We just started, My wife and I with the 5 pack duets workout classes with Laura. She is pretty great! Very patient with beginners, me, and really wants you to get the correct movements to get the most out of your workout. We plan on going forward with the group classes next. I highly recommend this place!!!
