I've never been able to catch it open. And I exchange the lows of a person who lives in the general area and he said that they have not seen anybody there in a long time

Your basic run of the mill small town historical museum. Extremely limited hours and focused mostly on 19th century ranch era history. I would imagine they do a lot of school groups. There is a teensy tiny research library and a couple of nice docents without a lot of resources.

Red was the color of many dear things: creamy lipstick, red-hot candy, a Canadian house and distinctly the diminutive home of the Pico Rivera History and Heritage Society. Kris Hodson of the La Habra Historical Society had referred me. What a great location and notably this lovely red structure used to be an original train depot on Serapis Avenue built around 1887. This depot was moved and restored in 1973 to its current location
Strange and wonderful black and white historic photographs hang on the wall. Pico and Rivera was born into city-hood in 1880 with the railroads, which brought community leaders, farmers and successful families (post WW II) to a place the Gabrielino-Tongva Indians called "the place where the world began" or Sejat (Sehat).
The big news in 1968 was the glorious marriage of two little cities to make one great city. So Pico and Rivera cities became Pico Rivera. Delightful museum and with guides making each visitor feel honored. Open every Tuesday and Thursday and first Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you have a group or class, please call and make an appointment for the honor of a tour. Adore this museum, inspirational. Do visit!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jason V.Los Angeles, CA3753191152Aug 14, 2018
This is a great local history museum that showcases how the area started. Going back from the early American Indian inhabitants to the Spanish and Mexican eras to current day. It has artifacts and antiques from the area that were donated over time. The building itself was a late 1800s era train depot that was moved from a location not too far away and restored by the City. The name Pico Rivera comes from a merging of two towns, Pico and Rivera which voted to incorporate as Pico Rivera in the 1950's. This is a free museum (donations encouraged) that is currently open twice a week. The docents are friendly and very helpful. Parking is limited but there is plenty of street parking available.
