I loved this place! I remember one day talking to Pete about my impending retirement. He seemed pretty interested (sorry if him closing was my fault) I'm not sure if that's why it closed but I hope he's enjoying a rich retirement if it is. I loved the soups and the sandwiches and miss them dearly. When I was still working and my job took me anywhere near Pete's, that's where I went. And it often did. I've known for a while that he's been closed but had to come back to review and read the reviews. They really paid attention to the quality of the food. It was nothing special but it was amazingly good for what it was. I can still taste the Italian dressing on the shredded lettuce. I baptised a few shirts in it but learned to lean forward (and get it on my shoes and truck seat instead). It was an oasis built inside a series of shacks that I will never forget. If only there had been a Pete Jr. To leave the business to...

I'm so sad this is close. If anyone knows where they may have reopened, please let me know. But I wanted to write a review based on my last experience about over 4 years ago. This is a gem. Thanks for providing us amazing sandwiches and coffee. I'm so sorry to find out you guys are closed. The food was so good. I remember the customer service made you feel like you're home. I hope they are all ok. Thanks so much for being my fave lunch spot for years before we moved out of the area.

We always used to come here before 49er games at candlestick park. The good old days!
They make excellent sandwiches (and good sized ones).
They were always good about keeping the line moving even when it was busy on game day.
Wish I had a reason to go back to that part of the city...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4939259814764Dec 8, 2011
Some days I sit at work too long, thinking I'll get off early and grab something. You go a little past hungry and I start thinking...I could just murder a sandwich right now and that's exactly what we went for.
My dad and I stopped off at Piccolo Pete's for our late lunch, ordered one large sandwich to split - Turkey and Pastrami with everything, especially jalapenos on a dutch crunch roll. My dad noted that they get their bread from Royal Bakery and it was super fresh.
I couldn't help but order one of their Deviled Eggs, they are twice the size of the average and looked so good. I noticed everything was "Homaid" per the little laminated signs which made me laugh.
The place is like a old school deli, forget about the cafe style - you grab and go. They have a huge buffet of hot and cold foods, soup bar and huge assortment of beverages. They also have a large liquor selection, if you are looking for some pre-game beverages and food before heading to Candlestick.

Super nice workers,
They made sure to greet us even when they were with customers, made us feel welcomed and were very polite.
We got 2 subs to go, and these circle things that were filled with meat. Everything was really good, the subs were stuffed and very filling. We got 2 bags of chips as well, they put it in a reusable green bag which was very cute!
They also have a few selections of soup lined up. Next time I might try the clam chowder.
Enjoy!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 260315694Jan 20, 2009
I've lived my entire life living about 2 blocks away from this place. I'm not gonna lie, but the place scared me, as does my entire neighborhood. So it wasn't until I started college that I started to come here quite frequently. When I exit the freeway, piccolo pete is on the way home that it's just hard not to make a stop and pick up one of their glorious sandwiches.
Sure the place still creeps me out, I mean, I swear I never find any other women in here other than maybe their 2 female workers, other than that there's always construction workers and other men in here.
But anyways the staff is pretty friendly. Whenever I come here I always get the same thing, a roast beef on dutch crunch bread, with everything on it but pickles and mustard. So delish. The sandwiches are pretty freakin' huge too, I could only finish half in one sitting. I've also had their clam chowder which is pretty good too. I've tried their swedish meatballs over rice and that was just ehhh. So for sure if you ever come here go for the sandwiches.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Danny Y.San Francisco, CA2034683May 25, 2016
Hood eatz.
I grew up in Viz Valley and for 20 some odd years I never bothered to walk pass the humongous Bayshore crosswalk to Piccolo Pete's. Huge 7up advert, Berkley Farms, and classic/rustic writing of the foods and goods they serve here. This place would almost certainly be buzzing in the Outer Richmond. But such is life. They sit at the epicenter that is San Bruno Ave meeting Bayshore.
Sandwiches are the star. They are nothing fancy, but they are relatively fresh, generously sized, and affordable. Do I really always want that special spread and comically large sub from Little Lucca? Get your choice of meat (ham, roast beef, turkey, etc.) or a specialty sandwich, which is normally a combination of some of their more delicate cheeses and meats. The guts are good. The bread is alright, but could be softer. Sandwiches should be the reason why you come here. Can range anywhere between $7 - $12.
Cafeteria style - potato salad, egg salad, meatballs, meatloaf. Purchase by box size or pound.
Good selection of soft drinks and alcohol drinks. You won't find your craft beers here. Drive down one mile down Bayshore to BevMo for that.
Corner style stuff - cheetos, chips, snacks, candies. For the kiddos or the junkies.
Pay at the front with cash.
There is always parking out front. Parking on that block does not have meters. Just don't park like a noob since that street is always bustling +30mph.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 73110432531Sep 6, 2012Updated review
I don't see Macaroni & Cheese anymore, but I do see Mashed Potatoes, Barbecue Polish Sausage over Rice and Spaghetti available. The services here are still very good and the staff here are nice and friendly. I definitely enjoyed that small box of spaghetti and I'll coming back the next time I am in the area. I'm craving for a sandwich and a box of spaghetti as I write this review update.

Hi Bennett,
Thank you for acknowledging my staff and services. We are so glad that you loved the small box of spaghetti. Please visit us again, because we have so much more to offer.Mar 29, 2011Previous reviewPiccolo Pete is awesome. The last time I've been here was way back in 2005. I tried their Macaroni and Cheese with a bag of Doritos and a bottle of soda. It wasn't necessarily the best lunch combo but at least I've ate something for lunch! This is one of the best delis to go to if you are in the Visitacion Valley area and it is not too far from Little Hollywood either. Bayshore CalTrain Station is just right down on Tunnel Ave and Monster Park (Candlestick Park) is not too far away!
Live nearby?
Want a deli to go pick up a sandwich and a bag of potato, corn or tortilla chips with a beverage before heading down to CalTrain Station?
Piccolo Pete is your answer!
Food and beverage items on the menu here may risen over the last 7 years in part due to inflation. Sometimes gas prices increase like crazy and there may be certain occasions when gas prices decrease. I bet that the cost for the Macaroni and Cheese I bought here 7 years ago increased as well. But this is really nothing new since inflation still exists as of right now. I've gotta make a stop here for my craving of Macaroni & Cheese the next time I am in the area! - Michael C.San Francisco, CA06Aug 30, 2018

So I'm looking for something in SSF/Brisbane for lunch near work and my boss takes me here.
My order - Warm pastrami sandwich (sauerkraut, mustard, and pickles on rye bread) $4.75. Not bad.
My boss's order - Spaghetti and meatballs. $3.75
The customer in front of me's order - A pack of cigarettes, chocolate milk, and an Olde English 40.
I'm coming back on Thursday.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0
