Picante Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

EXCELLENT, JUST EXCELLENT !

As one has spent decades in Corpus Christi, Austin, Galveston, Brownsville & Houston; this is the BEST of the "Mexican // Tex-Mex" choices in the Lafayette region.

It is worth the few minutes drive up IH49.

The salsa is good. It tastes like it has black pepper in it, which is weird but not bad. Our biggest complaint here was the service. Our waitress had more tables than she could handle and consequently we were ignored. She also didn't write down our orders. Some waiters can do this and kick butt at it. Not her. She messed up our food and because she never came back to the table so we just had to deal with it. It took forever to get her attention for our check. The thing that finally got her attention was that my dining partner walked up and helped himself to the takeout containers.

I wouldn't recommend stopping here unless you don't have any other options.

Being vegan in Lafayette comes with challenges when looking for a restaurant. Thank you Picantes for giving me a delicious & safe option!!

Not only is the food yum, the staff is educated in vegetarian & veganism. All of the staff that has served me has shared that the owners are vegetarian & take it very seriously that their customers have this option.

I love the veggie fajitas! Veggie rice & beans are yum too!

Yesterday I went for lunch & had the lunch fajita wrap with no meat & cheese, just veggies. OMG!! They packed that thing with tons of perfectly seasoned & cooked veggies!! It was delicious!!

Been going here since I moved here from NY back in 98. It's my home/staple for TeX Mex. Love the staff more than anything! Well, maybe the Empanadas come first. Tacos have always been on target, my hub LOVES the Chimi Gigante. Doris and Raven the waitresses have been there for years and makes you feel like family. They have a fun karaoke night and margarita specials are great. For cooler nights or those that don't mind La. heat there is an awesome patio seating. Oh yeah, I like the ribeye steak and the ribs, I like my ribs without sauce....meat falls off the bone.
Hope they are here forever!

We walked in at 11:27, it's now 12:18 we are just getting our food. I asked for a sprite like 40 mins ago and I just got it. My husbands sweet tea has been empty for about 10 mins. We got our food and my husband is still waiting on his meat for the fajitas he ordered. At first when we came in it wasn't bad but now the service is sucking. I just hope it gets better ... this is my experience so far which hasn't been great at all.

I've eaten at Picante a bunch of times... probably at least five in the last 4-5 years. It really is decent sometimes, but the food is so uneven, and the quality varies so much from dish to dish and visit to visit that I can't give it more then 3 stars. I've had brisket tacos that were good, chicken tacos that were OK, but other times they served something so horrible that it made me queasy... I believe it was their burger. Don't get it.

I you're in the Carencro area Picante is about the best you can do, and if you're lucky you just might get a good meal here.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Not any longer. I see why it's not as busy as before. My food was over cooked. It tasted horrible and old. they did nothing about it.

This was the most horrible service I have gotten at a restaurant. We had a party of 6 for my daughters 16th birthday. We had to wait 10 mins for refills of water. Then we ordered fajita chicken taco salads that came out with ground meat asked for a refill of coke that took 15 mins to come out. Before they brought the coke out I went to the bar and had the bartender refill the coke for me. I asked to talk to the manager and she didnt seem to care about our poor service or the messed up order. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant nor will I ever return!!!

Grilled Camerones Surenos are awesome if not better than the fried ones!!! Now on to the Ceviche....the one thing that is the problem is that it comes only in about 16oz and y'all this is an awesome dish!! It's so close to a Peruvian style one but comes out of a Tex-Mex joint in the the Crow!!!
