Paragraphs On Padre Boulevard

Very small and not that many selections. The owner, after being called by the employee at the counter, was helping a young lady looking for book recommendations. She wanted something scary, but has never read a scary novel. She was only introduced to Stephen King. There was no mention of the classics by Stoker, Shelley or Poe; even recent authors of Jaws, Haunting of Hill House, etc. were unmentioned.

Which leads me to believe that either they only have Stephen Kings in the store, or the staff is really not well-versed when it comes to different genres.

The owners probably wanted to put up a business, and they saw a market for a bookstore. They are not wrong, the only other "bookstore" around the area is a second-hand one in Harlingen. The next bet would be the two Barnes and Nobles in McAllen.

If my assumption is correct, it will explain the eclectic nature of the selections which are available in the store. It's not bad, but, I don't think it warrants the 5 star rating it has on here.

This wonderful bookstore was gem on our rainy day. We found some great books for Adi and I am so excited to read my new book "The Padre Puzzle" written by a local, David Henry. The owner was such a kind man to both myself and my daughter. All day today, she talked about going back to visit with him and his cute little puppy. The woman who worked there just radiated joy and love as well. They recommended some wonderful places to visit and we had a blast. Now we are tucked inside warm and dry writing our postcards that this wonderful place sells as well. This is definitely an AMAZING place! A must to put on your list when you visit.

What a fun little bookstore!

Wife, daughter, and I were vacationing on the island when we noticed Paragraphs down the street from where we were staying. We like to read so browsing bookstores is always a pleasure. So we stopped by for a look-see.

If we lived on the island this would be one of the places we'd frequent. It just has good energy. Comfy sitting areas with games to play, free coffee, gregarious owners always willing to help with a smile, and, of course, books!

We'll definitely be back next time when on the island.

This is a gem of a store on SPI! We stopped in on a whim and I'm glad we did. I found the selection to be strong for such a small bookstore. I tend to read psychology and self-help books and they had a whole bookcase devoted to the subject. They also had a good-sized children's selection and area. They have a good selection of Texas books and selections from local authors which my husband appreciated. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly.

I stopped in here while on vacation to see what they had and try to escape the heat. They had a good selection and the owner was very friendly. She sat us down on a comfortable chair and talked with us for a while.

*Allergy Warning* they do have a small dog that walks around the store. She is super sweet and friendly, and they keep the store very clean.

Cute indie bookstore on the island with a great selection of books. I always manage to leave with something interesting! But really the best part of this place is the people who run it: always friendly and welcoming. Also, their cute pups will just melt your heart! This cozy spot is definitely a must-visit for locals and island visitors!

Very cute bookstore! Great conversation with the co-owner of the store and got a lot of books to read for the beach! The store has children's books, reading for all genres, local authors, and some vintage finds. Super glad we decided to stop!

This place had a lot of books, but none that I wanted to read. It had an odd selection of some obscure stuff, but not having much choices of something more "mainstream". I was impressed that they had some used books as a selection, especially since the other books were pretty spendy. I wasn't in a rush to go back, I had better luck at the thrift shops finding books I wanted to read for a few bucks. When I went, it was a few days before the "spring breakers" came to town, and service was not that great, the worker barely acknowledged us when we walked in or left.

Small store, but really well-curated selection, especially in the children's section.
