The rack of lamb is delicious! According to the menu, it was featured on the Food Network and I could now see why. Flavorful, moist, the right amount of charring...and the dish comes with Greek potatoes, Greek feta salad and pita with tzatziki.
For dessert, the baklava with vanilla ice cream and chocolate topping was a perfect ending to the meal.
Make sure to walk around the store afterwards and buy some Greek foods and dessert to take home.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Francisco M.San Francisco, CA01Mar 28, 2024

Restaurant and imports store in one. They sell such a variety of things here - definitely something for everyone. We ended up having a nice lunch of gyros then browsed the imported goods next door. Papa Cristo's is hard to miss as the storefront is very wide to accommodate all they offer. Definitely a plus that they are located right next to 2 stops of intersecting bus lines. Staff were incredibly kind here. 5+ stars, easily!
Beef and lamb gyros were stuffed to the brim and then some. Easily enough for 2 meals in my case. Multiple staff came by to check up on us and were very attentive - not surprising they have regulars on a first name basis here. Greek coffee was also good - distinct taste and quite strong, but very pleasant. Sip slowly as it comes hot.
After eating, staff at the counter offered us samples of all their greek yogurt. She gave our small group a sample each of the different yogurts. I really enjoyed the texture and if I weren't lactose intolerant, I'd definitely have gone home with the sour cherry flavor. They also have frozen yogurt bars of their greek yogurt, imported Greek goods like pasta, olive oil, jams and preserves, snacks, and baked goods you can take to go. I haven't been around Greek culture growing up so this was a really great experience for me and I'm excited to be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Al M.Los Angeles, CA019Mar 17, 2024
Wow! This place it used to be good before pandemic and now is a depressing place. Papa Christos has lost quality and decency, the outdoor seating smells like urine and street food, all the tables had dirty dishes full of flies and no one of their staff picked up or cleaned the tables. The food quality is not light, it feels greasy and even the salad was very sad to enjoy. The employees look sad and unmotivated like someone in the management is yelling at them. LA people goes here because of the history but they are being scam by the new administration. DO NOT EAT here if you want good greek food. There's other places way better and healthier than this. A Huge disappointment.
Ps: good luck finding parking around specially in the weekends.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 4 - Mar 11, 2024
I've been coming to Papa Cristo's for years, but it never feels like often enough.
Someone in the comments saying "small portions".. maybe half of your order was stolen because these are the biggest gyros I've seen in all of Los Angeles! Like, need a fork and knife and many many napkins to eat big. Like, split among two or three meals big. And more delicious, authentic greek food. The falafels have the perfect amount of crisp and are never dry. Their dolmas are sweet, vinegary, and always the perfect treat.
As the kids say: "Your portions too big. Your marketplace too different. Your falafel too bad. They'll kill you, papa Cristo!"Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Feb 29, 20241 check-in
WOW. I love this place.
As a Greek person, I felt so fortunate to walk in and see so many products that I've been trying to find or that I usually have to special order.
The portions were HUMUNGOUS and I'm on like my fourth day of eating them. On top of that, the food came out ridiculously fast.
I had the gyro plate with rice and salad (wish I got the potatoes and salad instead). The plate was piled high with meet and went well when I mixed the roasted feta and tomatoes from my sizzling feta plate with the rice and some tzatziki sauce.
The loukoumades were so fluffy and fresh.
The restaurant was decorated with historical momentos from the family who founded Papa Cristo's and its definitely a casual place to stop by.
They have valet parking and plenty of places to sit. I'll be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Feb 1, 2024
Ordered via Grubhub for a rainy day lunch at home. Immediately impressed by the leak-proof packaging and generous portions. The gyro meat was delicious and tender. The cheese and meat hand pies big enough to cut into two, equally large pieces. Was slightly disappointed that the Gigantes did not include the feta shown in the Grubhub picture, but it was delicious and definitely not the end of the world.
The location is out of my own general travel range, but I would order (and maybe try other items) for delivery in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - 244830372Jan 18, 2024Updated review
I enjoyed this hidden gem's ambiance and service. Nice indoor and outdoor to pick up your food and eat comfortably. The fast and kind service. The store, while expensive, had Ethiopian coffee and spices. That said, I ordered a whole chicken and it was undercooked inside. The taste was okay before the recook (just a standard roast chicken -- $15-16 incl. tax) and def worse after. I appreciate the effort after I flagged someone and they did try to fix it by putting it on the grill for 10 mins, though I thought I would just get a new chicken.
My friend did say the gyro was pretty packed and had a lot of meat ($18 incl. tax).
That said, it makes me not want to come back again.
Parking isn't too bad in the neighborhood, but they seem to had attendants in the parking lot for valet(?)Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1Aug 28, 2019Previous reviewI saw this on a FoodBeast video and came to try it with friends. The gyro mix of beef and lamb was pretty good and very well seasoned. The gigantes large bean cold appetizer was definitely the highlight -- delicious and i felt had a tinge of mango in it. the tabouli salad was a miss-- it wasn't very fresh and the leaves were turning color. defintely a lot of food for the price and the services was good. I will be back to try desserts.

This used to be an authentic greek food for casual lunch at an affordable price. However, inflation ruined it. Price of kebab costs over $28 and lunch special sandwich is $16.99 but the taste of roasted lamb tastes like paper and it was shock. I rather go to taco bell or fast food place that tastes better and cheaper. Papa will be remembered in the history book. America is going down with inflation. only people who does not know is J Powell and Biden.

Small portions, pricey dishes, great meat quality but sometimes the meat was cooked a bit tough.
The donuts were enjoyable but not made to the finest standards.... Aka anything fried and drizzled with syrup will taste good.
Spinach feta phyllo dough pastry was yummy for the first few bites but it quickly got very oily.
Would not come again unless I'm in town, craving Mediterranean, and I manage to steal one of the few metered spots in front of the restaurant.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 2 - Mar 27, 2024
It had been years since I had come to Papa Cristo's, and I'm so relieved that the food was just as good as I remembered it! There is some street parking, but there is also a parking lot in the back, which made parking a breeze. We went on a random weekday, so I'm not sure how busy weekends are, but when we went there weren't too many people and it was perfect. I love the mom and pop old school kinda vibe they have, and the family pictures on the walls to glance at while you wait for your food. We ordered at the small counter and the cashier was happy to answer the questions we had about the menu, he was super helpful. We paid and received a number to take with us to the table. The food was brought out after maybe 15 min or so, and it was so fresh and flavorful. I'm honestly not sure which of the two items I enjoyed more. We will definitely be back and can't wait to sample the rest of the menu!
