I'll admit, I wasn't super excited about PJ's. Perhaps it's the roasting process or tasting notes, but PJ's usually isn't my favorite. HOWEVER, had we not have stopped, but I wouldn't have experienced what was hands down the most courteous and efficient baristas we've yet to encounter! (I've been on coffee tours in the greater NYC area... I add that to share the magnitude that it is for me to say that about this barista!) They had brown hair in a ponytail, glasses, and a mustache. They deserve the highest of praise! The cinnamon scone is we also need to commended (delicious)! Nicely done!

Normally I don't leave reviews for franchise locations that are chains. It's usually pointless. There usually is no local charm and have to follow some sort of rigid corporate standard.

However, this particular downtown location is an exception to that line of thinking. The W Thomas location is actually on of the oldest PJ's locations outside of New Orleans. This location was around when the chain was a much smaller operation, and PJ's found its way into Hammond's DNA long ago. Even though this location has shifted to the current corporate model, and changed ownership a few times, it still has a strong local identity led by owners Robby and Donna Miller.

For decades, the employees at this location are the most insightful and talented in town. I don't know if their brewing methods are different here, but the coffee tastes much better on W Thomas.

It's a friendly conversational spot every morning. Seth is a great barista in the morning as well.

I normally don't leave a comment but I am sort of furious. I go to pj's every single morning. I love my granitas. Well today I was charged $12 for a large granita with a extra shot of expresso and the lady said the reason is I had a 32 oz cup and asked to fill it up. I get a large cup from pj's and it almost fills my cup up this is not the normal price I pay everyday. I normally pay about $7 and I leave a tip. I have never had them charge me $12. If this is the correct price then it needs to be equal price at both locations. I'm not sure I want to continue business if I will keep being over charged. Hands down I'm furious.

I've never had a bad experience here. Been coming here occasionally for a few years (usually go to the University Avenue location) and have found the staff to be helpful and friendly. They have tea, coffee (hot and iced) and everything else you would find at a top notch coffee house. Free wi-fi for customers, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with tables both large and small. A great place to stop after dinner or during an afternoon stroll. Only two blocks from a big park and several restaurants and retail locations within a few blocks.

Plenty of seating and free wi-fi for customers!

The employees here seem to always be in good spirits. The service is efficient, the restroom is usually fairly clean, and they have outdoor seating with overhead fans. I wish they'd have outdoor sockets and more comfortable chairs inside, but that's really my only complaint. I haven't had issues with wrong orders or bad quality beverages. They have tea as well as coffee drinks and some pastries. Whoever does the murals and window painting does a good job!

This is the best local coffee chain in Hammond, clean with a relaxed atmosphere. Their chai latte and coffees are fairly good, and their coffee is good. This location, and the one near Hammond Square are the best. The Wardline location doesn't have good service or drinks. This PJs offers inside and outside seating, and you will often find college students here. The food offerings are okay, but are nothing special. This location doesn't have a drive through option. Come here to support a local chain and to sit and relax with a cup of coffee.

I don't understand the confused look I got when I asked how many shots are in a medium latte... and then I was given an answer in ounces 1.5 ounces in 16 oz cup... uhhhhhh? What? Ok? I asked for an extra shot. Got my coffee. It was so incredibly weak. Like their "espresso" may have just been hot drip coffee with steamed milk. Nope nope nope. No more PJs for me. I'll go to a real coffee shop that understands the basics of what an espresso shot is.
