Just recently went back to Ozona Tavern. It appears it's under new management as the decor and overall vibe seem a little classier.
It was quite crowded and the owner or manager could not have been nicer. He was very attentive and checked on us frequently. He gave us the menu of "specials" and got our table ready.
This is where things went a little wrong. The menu was different than what we remembered. Good menu, with some interesting options. We never received any other menu, so we figured that was it, and they changed the menu. We waited quite a while, even after our other party arrived, and a server never came. We had to ask a server to please take our order. We ordered a few appetizers and also our meals.
After we ordered we noticed a whole bunch of food coming out that we didn't see on the menu. A little disappointing but I was OK with what I ordered. Others at my table were a little miffed. Apparently there is another menu that we didn't get. We saw nachos, burgers, sandwiches, fries, and other food coming out that wasn't on our menu.
We waited quite a long time, at least 30 minutes for our food. The appetizers came out with the entrees, which of course is not what we wanted, and they were cold. That was definitely a downer. My salad was quite good, with grilled shrimp on top.
The live music was good, the atmosphere is fun and inviting and the manager is very friendly. Our server was slow and inattentive and the timing of our meals left a lot to be desired. The food was very good, and the "special menu" had some great choices. I'm still not sure about the regular menu, if there is one, because we didn't see it. I wonder if they still have the shrimp and grits that I loved so much.
I changed my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars for now. I'll go back again and hopefully be able to give a higher rating.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jan 18, 2014Previous reviewUpdate: on my 2nd visit I got the shrimp and grits, and oh my god...drool...absolutely the best I've had and the best meal I've had in a while. Cajun style, slightly smokey, cheesy flavor and LOADED with shrimp.
It's the best shrimp and grits I ever hung a lip on.Jan 14, 2014Previous reviewThis is a wonderful, local sports bar in sleepy little Ozona and I am so glad that I found it.
Ozona Tavern is tucked away, even from the slight hustle and bustle of Ozona. Upon entering we were greeted and seated right away. It was fairly busy but there were a few tables available. My immediate impression was that it's very clean, not overly decorated (and I mean that in a good way), very nice bar area, and there are plenty of TVs.
The waitress took our drink order right away, and there is a great selection of craft beers, including some local, plus the usual line-up of American beers. I had a Guinness and I was pleased that it took a bit longer to pour. It's SUPPOSED to take longer to pour, so they are doing it right. My wife ordered a glass of wine, and all was well.
We ordered the spinach dip to start, although I was tempted by the warm pretzel sticks with mustard. I love soft pretzels but I had some just recently so we went with something else. The spinach dip was awesome actually, covered in real cheddar cheese, big chunks of artichokes, very creamy, and really delicious. The tortilla chips, I am fairly certain, were made fresh on site because they were light, crispy, still had some of the oil on a few of them, and were dusted with some spices. I was really impressed with this common "bar food,"
I had the fish sandwich which was fried cod (not Chinese farm raised tilapia like most places use), and it came out hot, crispy, and delicious. The fries were all freshly cut, and also excellent.
Great place, really friendly staff, and I was very happy with the food and beer selection. As far as sports bars go, it's 5 stars.
I want to tell people about it, but then again I don't want it to become a super-crowded bar with a bunch of, well, you get the point.
Anyway, I love this place, and I love that it's close to my house. - Julie L.Palm Harbor, FL04330May 14, 2015Updated review
Burgers are the way to go! Pasta was lacking, but the burgers rocked. Blue cheese, hangover and turkey burger all were delish.!!!iced tea was unfortunately quite weak. Onion rings w ere more batter than onion, and the sauce was so damn spicy that nobody at the table of 5 could eat it.
Pretzel bread appetizer was delicious!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 17, 2015Previous reviewBurgers are the way to go! Pasta was lacking, but the burgers rocked. Blue cheese, hangover and turkey burger all were delish.!!!iced tea was unfortunately quite weak.

This is a really nice establishment with quality service. I had the "new girl" and she was on top of everything. Definitely a local spot as everyone seemed to know everyone's name.
Come with an appetite. Started with the calamari app, decently priced, though it could have had a slightly bigger portion. Nice light crisp batter, and the marinara is amazing. The onion rings were plentiful, very crisp and delicious as well, and the dipping sauce was similar to outbac, chilis, etc. But better in my opinion.I had the shrimp and grits, which was full, I mean full of great shrimp, creamy and very good in a large portion. My fiancee had the chicken parm, needless to say it will take 3 days to eat there was so much. The pasta cooked to perfection, and the chicken you could cut with the fork, and again topped With their amazing marinara. Recommend both dishes! We will be backHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joe P.Dunedin, FL6952Sep 10, 2015

I'm surprised no one has heard about this jewel in Ozona. We started with the Cajun Chicken Nachos... We got a mountain of nachos.. Fresh tomatoes, blackened chicken home made tortilla chips... Enough food for a dinner for four. I had the spaghetti special. Came with 2 huge meatballs and an an Italian sausage... The sauce was amazing and the meatballs had to be at least quarter pound each, they were fantastic.
My wife had the uncle paddy melt, she said it was very good. We shared the cannoli's, the owners wife made the filling, which was great. All in all a great meal, attentive service at a good price. Can't wait to go back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Steven P.Boston, MA7442Feb 23, 2015
My friends Glenn and Keith took me to the OT for dinner last week...what a great little place! The owner (Chris, I think) was super charming and was nice enough to make a little table for us even though the place was packed for Valentines Day. He stopped by the table a couple of times to check that everything was going well...sometimes that can be irritating, but with him it just felt like a pal was stopping by the table. Seems like a great guy!
While spaghetti and meatballs is probably not the most exciting thing on the menu...Wowsers! That was sauce (called gravy in my family) was fresh and delicious...I could have just eaten it with bread. The meatballs had great taste and texture, but the sausage was a little prize. I don't usually eat sausage (find it gross really) but I tried it and loved it.
The decor seems to be in transition from the bar that it was into a real restaurant...but, I hardly noticed the beer signs once I met the owner and tasted the food. Oh, I didn't mention the live music...fantastic! The guy singing was awesome but not so loud as to be distracting. Loved it.
I'm certainly going to plan on going back to the OT when I'm back in Florida.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rob B.Clearwater, Tampa Bay, FL321Feb 12, 2014
The shrimp and grits were amazing. The burger was average.
It gets 2 stars because of the people. Friends of the bartender, Laurel, we're obnoxious. One guy dressed in a sweater vest and tie was screaming F bombs left and right. This is not a very large establishment and there were many children in the dining area. However, the icing on the cake was when the opening ceremony of the Olympics came on TV. When the Armenian team was announced, he proceeded to state that all Armenians are rapists. I take serious offense to that as I married into an Armenian family. My wife was nearly in tears so we finished our beers and left.

Beyond expectations. Had seared ahi as an appetizer as good as I have had anywhere. My party of four were all happy with Entrées. Service was attentive but not over bearing. Not your typical pub food.Would
be nice to see a full bar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christopher M.New York, NY69336333Apr 26, 2014
I don't know if it's a pub, bar, sports bar, or a restaurant. Seems it's trying to be "all-in-one" and fails.
Playing on the TVs was National Geographic Wild where a watched lions ripping apart a wildebeest. Which I usually don't mind, but not when I am about to order. And Gators football from the mid-90s.
I wasn't impressed by the menu. Generic bar food and not much to choose from. Finally I got a Guinness and when it came to the table and it was all head.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - M H.Tampa Bay, FL163501253Jan 10, 2016
Inside looks much nicer than the outside - I was expecting a smoky bar and it's a very pleasant looking sit down restaurant on the inside. Server was pleasant, food is average and overpriced. Not in a hurry to revisit.
Portabella mushroom app was disappointing - for $10 I was expecting a large portabella (like burger size) - it was small (3-4 inches in diameter), topped with cheese, and resting on 1/2 cup of marina sauce - very odd app, should have included bread or something? Philly Cheese Steak - small portion of bland meat on a very greasy roll. Side salad - small, dressings not homemade, romaine lettuce with a sprinkle of bacon bits. Onion rings were greasy and in a cajun batter = heartburn. Shepherds Pie portion was huge but nothing special. Burger was good but I can get a good burger anyplace.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
