We always go here when we are in Daytona. The food is always fresh and hot. Service is fast. Servers are super nice.
This was our first time being there in January so unfortunately the open air atmosphere wasn't open air because of the wind which was fine with us.
We were offered seating on the outside deck if we wanted. This restaurant is an experience. A must if visiting the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 19, 2023Previous reviewExcellent food, great service. Atmosphere like no other in town. Eat here everything time I'm in the area. If you miss this place you have missed a real jewel!

My friends and I spent a week in Daytona Beach Shores and they wanted to take me to one of their favorite places. I am so glad they did. Upon arriving at the restaurant, you grab a menu and then when you are ready to order go to a part of the bar where they take your order. You then find a seat and they bring everything to you. While you eat, they are constantly walking around to make sure you have plenty to drink. A bit after 5 or so, they switched to having a hostess seat you.
The restaurant is very nice and clean. There are a lot of fun things on the walls to look at and it is situated right under a bridge on the waterway that makes for gorgeous views.
I ordered a pound of peel and eat shrimp, fries, hushpuppies and some raw oysters. They were amazing. All was cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavor. Everyone in my group was very happy with their meals.
I truly loved my visit and look forward to next year.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 2024Updated review
Our Deck Down Under (ODDU) remains the "go to" seafood restaurant in Port Orange. Our favorites include the lightly breaded, cooked to perfection fried fish sandwich, blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich and delicious golden brown hush puppies. There is never an issue except for the many patrons waiting their turn to place an order or finding an outside table on the deck on the water. Before moving to Florida many years ago we discovered this gem hidden under the Dunlawton Avenue (Halifax River) bridge on beach side. The staff stays faithful to customer service making just another reason to dine here. Thank you ODDU for keeping the promise of extraordinary food and friendly service!

Recent staff shortages impacting service and food preparation plagues the industry. With out hesitation I can truly say ODDU met these challenges, adapting their processes to maintain high standards . ODDU continues to be our favorite seafood restaurant, the fish, blackened or fried is some of the best in the area. The dockside ambiance is relaxing and staff is always willing to serve customers with exceptional service. Don't forget the hush puppies! Kudos to owners, management and staff for a job well done

The place looks terrific. On the water and it appears it has been updated. The food is another story. Scallops had very little taste and a small salad. The shrimp was squeezed to make it look larger and the shrimp sauce needed a lot of help. This was our first time back in a lot of years. Now I know why!!!!

We come here for the ambiance and the food and the combination can be a beautiful thing. This trip was no different. We both ordered good old fashioned grilled cheese sandwiches, adding tomato to them, along with fries and pups, and onion rings and pups. Unfortunately they gave us both fries. But it's ok, I like their fries too so no big deal.
Food came out fast and the scenery is relaxing on the water. We love this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 8, 2024Previous reviewPleasantly surprised by this place. The first time here the wait was very long but worth it. Since then we have discovered how to avoid the long lines. The food is great. We take advantage of the shrimp specials when they have them.

It's great to be back here to this marvelous little gem in da rough. We got seats at the end of the bar (yay, us!) and the Queen Bee asked if we could start w. smoked fish dip. Why, yes! It's chopped Mahi Mahi with the most kick ass smoky flavor that I shall even forgive the accompanying stale saltines. I'd even put this spread on a damn shoe and eat it; it's that GD good!
They were doing shift change when we got there so eventually Ms. Liz became our barkeep. The girl who she took over from was nice as well. Liz took care of us like a champ too. For entrees, shrimp & grits 4 Da Queen Bee; crab cake dinner with wild rice for me. Each came along with 2 hush puppies also.
Crab cakes were just as good as I remember 'em. They come grilled and they're not jammed with a ton of filler or oddball flavoring. Her grits had jalapeño and cheddar, making 'em nom noms even for a grits hater such as myself. Shrimp were grilled just right too, she told me.
Country music and some classic rock playing overhead with a breeze from Da Muggy, uh: Mighty Halifax. Not a bad way to start our week of vacay. I'm sure we shall be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 19, 2021Previous reviewWell back again after a couple years away from this corner of creation. Cathy the barkeep recognized us as I too recognized the bunch of old farts sitting at the east end of the bar. We started with smoked mahi spread and pitcher of Amber Bock...we had a total of four pitchers, one fish spread and two dinners over three hours and change.
I simply ordered the seafood platter: big load of food.
Period. Scallops, clams, shrimp and deviled crab. Boom! Side of wild rice and a couple of hush puppies. Even though much of this stuff was fried it didn't taste like it! A squirt of lemon was all this stuff needed to shine! Tartar sauce, hot sauce, cocktail sauce be damned!!!
Queen Bee had so called half & half. Market prices at a whopping $43! That was half a pound of crab legs and half a pound of steamed spiced shrimp. That to me is a royal ripoff....no sides, no nothing. I warned her but she went ahead anyway. Since I didn't pay, it's all on her anyhow.
Well, the only reason I leave a 4th star is because of Cathy: otherwise it woulda gone down to three. Food was certainly nice enough, and so forth. I just don't believe they really offer much for the hefty price increase and much shorter hours. Bah: look where we are! Really good help is REALLY hard to find. Apparently, so now is a good deal! I'm glad we only visit once in a blue moon; we still have a mortgage ya know!!!!Aug 9, 2020Previous reviewWe sat at the bar on this rainy afternoon by the Mighty Halifax. We sat at the bar and ordered food directly from there rather than waiting, just like last year when we came up this way. We found the two seats left at said bar but they weren't together. So the folks between them all moved over willingly so we could sit together?! Yay!!!
Meantime, Liz was our happy barkeep and server. Woo-wee; this girl knows her stuff! She was awesome and since we are around for a week, I'm sure we shall return! So why, do you ask, shall we return THIS time?!
We started out with smoked mahi-mahi fish dip. It came as a recommendation from the local regulars next to us as well as Liz. That stuff was better than a shot of Novocain with a tall whiskey chaser before a root canal. Makes taramosalata taste like a dirty diaper; oh, my!
As for entrees: she had fried grouper with a side salad; I had a crab cake platter with which I had wild rice and hush puppies. I tried a taste of her salad as well as a bit of grouper. Both tasted quite fresh and well prepared. The grouper was amazing even though it was battered. We both enjoyed that it was a LIGHT batter.
Crab cakes were fresh and tasty. A wee bit heavy with seasoning and breadcrumbs, but not enough to overwhelm the beautiful salinity of the crabmeat. Wild rice was a standard Uncle Ben's mix, as I was told. Hush puppies had the same red pepper bite that they did last year.
Add the rum mango punch special and some cheap pitchers of Amber Bock, plus the friendly locals next to us on either side...that catapults the ojoint from a 4 to a 5 star experience with the great help of Miss Liz. So personable yet professional; if we moved here we would have a new hangout and new friends. Yay!!!Aug 17, 2018Previous reviewWe sat at the bar on this beautiful afternoon by the Mighty Halifax. You can sit at the bar and order food directly from there rather than waiting in line as though one were at Mickey D's. So glad we did so, too. I feel like a real beach bum this way, but not in a bad sense. Southern rock playing at the bar, too. Think Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, etc.
The Queen Bee decides on a steamed platter. That's shrimp, clams and crab legs. Came with plenty of drawn butter and fresh horseradish. She says all three are amazing! She so concentrated on chowing down I got a couple of nice, strong mai tai drinks ahead of her.
By the photos, one can discern I had a crab cake sandwich. Two big ol' homemade crab cakes slapped into a soft grilled roll with a sprinkling of lettuce for garnish. Nice, delicate cakes with just enough filler to keep 'em from falling totally to pieces. Tartar sauce not needed really. A dash of Tabasco did them much more justice. Basket includes 2 hush puppies, homemade slaw and a small heap of crinkle cut fries.
So far, this has been her favorite spot of all those we tried up here. I'd have to say I agree. One of our coworkers recommended this joint to us; I'm glad we paid him heed. Thanks Ryan. If ever we visit Daytona again, then I'm sure we shall be back for another yummy lunch! - Cindee K.Lancaster, PA015Apr 15, 2024
Nice place...got a table right on the water. Staff was super friendly and helpful (as we were under a time crunch). My tuna was a bit dry but everyone else enjoyed their food. In their defense, i like my tuna almost raw (in the middle) so most restaurants won't serve it that way. A tasty sauce would have helped (I don't like tartar sauce). I would definitely go back but just get something else to eat.

Food and service are the best! Liz, Kathy, and the rest of the team are so good!!
Food is fresh, hot, and delicious.
The staff is attentive, take the time to get to know you and be sure you are having a good time.
This is one of the hardest working crews you will ever visit, makes you keep coming back to support their efforts. While in town, we went two nights in a row and the menu afforded completely different visits!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 19, 2021Previous reviewThis team and service is unmatched in Daytona Beach shores.
A wrap around bar allows for plenty of seating at this waterside "fish house".
Great for families or couples on a date, it provides a vast array of options that will satisfy your seafood needs whether it is raw or steamed oysters, crab boils, or good ole fried fish and shrimp baskets with hush puppies! - Apr 25, 2023
Great place for seafood. While visiting family, it was suggested to go to Down Under for seafood. Hearing that it was waterfront dinging we were all in.
We went on a Sunday for an early dinner around 3pm. We stood in line to give our order at the counter then went to find a table. It wasn't too busy and we got one outside on the patio.
The waitstaff brought our drinks and food when it was ready. By the time we left they were taking names on a wait-list and the people would be seated and ordered with a waitress at the table. The process seemed to work well.
Here is what we ordered:
I got the Special Wrap with fries and pups. The wrap was shrimp and crab cake with a parmesan mayo and lettuce. The shrimp were surprisingly very large. It was a great sandwich,,,!
My husband got the platter. It comes fried only and has shrimp, fish, clams, scallops, and a deviled crab. He ordered it with slaw and pups. It was a lot of food!
My daughter got the shrimp and fish platter. Again this comes fried only with fries and pups. Again a good portion and nice size butterflied shrimp.
The hush puppies were very good. Not dry. Oh and I almost forgot!! We started with an order of conch fritters. They were some of the best. Not overseasoned, moist, with nice chunks of conch.
You gotta check this place out!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1
