I remember the Orpheum being THE place to hang out on the weekends. For such a small town, the Orpheum really added something to Saugerties' usually dull night life.

The Orpheum only has 3 theaters (which is a lot for Saugerties) - because of this, they can't always play all of the popular movies that are out at the same time. They have to pick and choose what to show and sometimes they don't choose wisely. Not to mention that the movies don't run as long as they could because they are constantly changing out what's playing.

Back when I used to hang out there, the price was reasonable. I do remember sneaking candy in to save some money, but I don't think the snacks were incredibly expensive.

The Orpheum is charming and quaint. I would go back if I was in Saugerties to catch a movie - for old times sake!

I came down for a special showing of a film, and was captivated by this small but extremely thoughtfully-run cinema. (OK, I guess theater, since they're also set up for live events, the stage looks super fun). While the original place has clearly been chopped up a bit, as these things have happened over the years, to make multiple screens, the smaller main theater retains much of its original charm. The sound was among the best I've ever heard -- forget the mall theaters with their cookie cutter speaker systems, this place feels like the audio has actually been tuned to the space. Not too loud but utterly clear and encompassing. Throw in interesting programs and very, very reasonable concession prices on top of super friendly staff, even though the Orpheum is quite a haul for us, we are definitely returning, especially for the special festival programming.

Now I want to buy some merch so I can spread the word.

      Happy birthday Jim?

This is a real gem of a downtown Theatre. Tickets are priced very reasonably. $6.00 on Monday and Thursday bargain nights . Tue, Fri-Sun tix are $8.00 . You get your ticket from an old fashioned ticket booth in the front of the theater before you walk in through the main doors. Candy and popcorn are served with a smile from the old style concession stand. There are two
theaters downstairs, The theatre upstairs used to be the former balcony when the Orpheum, was a single screen Theatre. In the early 90's it was converted into a triplex

The seats are comfortable and the upstairs room is a nice size. The theaters downstairs are a little smaller but still comfortable. The building was opened in 1908 and used to be a roller rink, for about 12 years before it became a theater.

They play a cute Little trailer "let's all go to the lobby" back from the 1950s before the previews start. Then right before the movie starts up on the screen it says " orpheum theater presents feature presentation"

You can't go wrong going to the theater to enjoy a motion picture. The price is right the staff is friendly and helpful the sound and projection crisp and clear no annoying commercials or too many previews before the movie

Definitely a much more enjoyable personable experience vs going to a multiplex

My pre-teen was so excited to see the movie Eighth Grade since she just got home from camp. It wasn't playing in any theater near us (Clifton Park) but I decided to see where it was playing online. Orpheum Theater- 7:30. Although Saugerties was an hour and a half hike for us, I decided to surprise her and her friend by taking them. We were shocked to see the move not listed on the outdoor display after we found parking but decided to ask the man behind the glass what was up. Not only did he rudely question where we get our information (was happy to show him on my phone), but I couldn't even get a "Sorry" for this whole ordeal as I'm standing there with 2 disappointed children after I told him how far we drove. He blamed management, told us he "thinks" it's playing next week and overall good give a crap. I will never come back. What customer service?

This was obviously an old theater, like, stage show type. We bought our tickets outside on a Thursday night to see a re-run of Bridesmaids. It was $5. FIVE DOLLARS! Never in my life have I paid $5 for a movie, even in high school (like it was so long ago....I'm 26) when we went every weekend, in our just as small town theather, it was $7. We didn't get snacks, just went right upstairs. It's not big. The stage is still in the theater, and if you sit in the front row you can put your feet up on it. My only complaint was that it was hot in there. My husband sweats standing still, and I know he was uncomfortable. It was the end of August, so not like it's tweener weather. It was warm.

I love small theaters. Great place to see a movie.

I love that everyone loves this place! I think it's ok - not much more. The renovations are a bit awkward and obvious. It's def not like the new theaters with cozy chairs and drink slots. But it's solid and some of the original details remain and that's the charm.
I do have to say I had to laugh and laugh when one of the workers couldn't contains his contempt when he saw us in the lobby killing time on our iPhones. The man, an older gent well into his late 60s made some loud snorting and bellowed out how rude we were by being on our phones. Mind you, he works there, we were merely paying customers.
I'll still enjoy a movie there and enjoy the kookiness.

Love this theater. The price was right and it was in the center of this quaint town that I lived in for a year and a half with great restaurants within walking distance. It's an old theater, but very charming and a great place to catch a new movie at a very reasonable price.

Went on Mon and Thurs and, coincidentally, got to take advantage of the Monday / Thursday special, which is $5 tickets for regular movies and $7 for 3D. It's a cute and quaint theater...I didn't have any of the food and drinks so I'm not rating any of that. But for the price, I am totally happy! There's also a neat book store next door and nice cafes and restaurants around the block if you have some time before the show.

Dear Orpheum Theater: we love you! We really love you! From your fantastic cast of characters who run the place, to your reasonably priced snacks and your funny little bathrooms -- we love you from the bottom of our hearts.

We've very excited for your new 3D system. Now, once in a while, it would be great if you played an art film or a documentary. Other than that - keep up the good work!

Cash only, wouldn't give us a cup of water for a coughing child, and surly staff. Not sure what all the five stars are about.
