A classic Irish pub atmosphere. The staff is welcoming. Cecilia behind the bar was great! All her food suggestions were spot on. The BEST corn beef in rye sandwich ever! A must try. They have a lot of beers on tap, so many to choose from. The crab cake sandwich was delicious. We made it a second meal of it the next day.
Definitely going back when we are in town again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 32492222819Feb 26, 20241 check-in
Olde Hickory Tap Room is located in Union Square in Downtown Hickory. I dined here on a Sunday so parking was easy as the area wasn't too busy.
When I arrived the host immediately sat me at a booth and didn't try to seat me at the bar which tends to be common places. My waitress was as friendly as could be. I went with the sirloin steak; fries and salad. The sirloin was ok but I usually order another cut of meat that is leaner but that wasn't on the menu here. The salad was larger than expected so I didn't finish the meal but I rarely do. I was given both a to- go box and a tea to go.
I almost returned for dinner here later in the week but then wandered around and ended up at their other restaurant at the train station.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Nick L.NC, NC011Apr 18, 2024
Came here because my dad came back into town & recommended it to me. He said the last time he ate here the fish n chips were very fresh and flavorful. When I got my plate the first thing that caught my eye were the fries, they were fresh but were soggy because they weren't cooked long enough. The fish was also fresh but the breading was soggy & falling apart bc it hadn't been cooked long enough as well. The fish tasted good but a big part of fish n chips is the crispy breading on the fish. The coleslaw was average, I could taste a hint of refrigeration indicating it hadn't been made the same day if I were to assume. Couldn't tell if they were understaffed, but our waitress did not attend to us as much as I would have liked. Seating & Atmosphere were definitely the best thing about the place.

This place is perfect every time. The indoor seating is the quintessential pub experience. There are two dining areas to choose from, plus a barstool area by the bartender. They also have an outdoor dining area, being part of the union Square. My go to's are the chicken tenders or the bacon cheeseburger plus a local beer on draft. On weeknights I love to bring a book in the evening and just chill out in a cozy booth, eat, and read. The service is great. It does get packed on weekend evenings. If this place was gone, I would cry. This is honestly a great place to have in your go to rotation. It is one of my favorite places in Hickory 100%.

When in town we love coming here for a Piedmont Pilsner. This visit we shared a Fish and Chips and it was light and flaky. The inside of the restaurant is dark, cozy, and surrounded by a bunch a cute shops in their downtown area.

Very cute pub with basic pub food. Reuben and Fish and chips were good. Waitress was super efficient and kept refilling my soda without having to be asked. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that there was a lot of dust in the bathroom floor.. a more efficient vacuum would get to those nooks and crannies.
Seemed like a lot of locals were eating there. The booths are nice and private too so no one is overhearing your conversation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 8, 2023Updated review
Our first day in Hickory, our first stop. This place did not disappoint. I would choose to sit at the bar next time to eat due to drink deliveries being a bit slow but it's all good. Nice cozy place with good food and good service! Highly Recommended. I will return again some day. I live 10 hours from this place.

Visiting Hickory NC, we discovered this tap room... we were on the move, so just stopped to ask questions. Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, so after leaving we decided to circle back around and have dinner there. The crab cakes and the Reuben were very good, and the beers were also nice.
Definitely a place we would visit again in Hickory.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 19, 2023
Our first visit was wonderful! They have dark beers. In fact on tap they had three I could choose from and it was very hard to make a choice based upon the three samples are server, Carson, brought. But I choose the Porter over the two Stouts. On a different day who knows. I paired it with half a crab cake appetizer (split with my partner) and half a Ruben with pub chips (also split). The service (by Carson) was fantastic, the vibe was great, the food delish. Hope to be back.

Hey friends... if you happen to be around beautiful downtown Hickory and looking for a great place to grab lunch...this ain't it.
We arrive and are greeted by one of illest looking woman I have ever seen. She sat a four top table to the people behind us (we were a party of 2). And then sat us at a four top.
But hey if you love burnt over cooked food you might want to try it. The Buffalo chicken sauce was a orange and very vinegary but a long way from it's origins.
There has to be a food truck with a raccoon circling the truck that would be a better choice...
But the waitress was great, polite and on point.
