A friend invited me to go wine tasting with her after she purchased a groupon. It was fun however I wished there was barstool at the bar area where we were doing the tasting. In addition, I wanted there to be cheese and crackers during the tasting but there wasn't (not a deal breaker.) I just had a higher expectation of wine tasting. However, despite that I still had a great time! We ended up tasting about 6 or so wine and the groupon included a bottle of wine and two cups!
If you're in the area, I'd say try it! It's fun and the staff that works there is amazing and super friendly! I had a great time and awesome introduction to wine tasting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My parents and I enjoyed the wine tasting experience here. For $9 you can taste 6 wines. I enjoyed a few of their reds and my parents (who aren't typically wine drinkers) even liked a few. They had water and oyster crackers to cleanse you pallet between pours. While the pours were supposed to be one ounce, our bartender had a bit of a heavy hand (which we didn't complain about!)
Overall, the experience was great. I was kind of disappointed that we didn't get to keep the glass since this is typical at most of the wineries I've been. Also, as others have stated, bar stools would be appreciated for people doing tastings.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Northern Vineyards is a winery stop in Stillwater that features a small tasting room and often holds different events that can be fun to attend.
When I visited they were having a cheese and chocolate pairing so we had cheese and chocolate paired with each wine we tried and it was great. The cheese and chocolate were local and really made the experience a lot better.
There were a couple things I didn't like. There was very limited seating and the space was very small. You'll likely be crammed at the counter rubbing elbows with someone. I actually didn't really enjoy any of the wines I sampled that day. There were a few in bottles that I would have liked to taste, but they weren't on the tasting menu that day.
Service was amazing and everyone was quick to refill glasses and offer suggestions even though the place was very busy.
I probably wouldn't go again, just because I personally didn't like the wine, but it can still be a nice stop if your in Stillwater and enjoy wine tasting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 28, 2014
Northern Vineyards is a good day trip with girlfriends from the cities. It is right downtown and easy to park. I have been here a handful of times and they seem to have rearranged a bit to create a sitting area inside to know taste. Once we came here to do a crazy fun grape stomping competition! It is now $5 for a tasting of most of their wines. They are great about suggesting what food, cheese or chocolate the wine will pair with. I prefer their Lady Slipper (blush) and Oktoberfest (white) wines. I would recommend taking your wine outside on their patio in the summertime to enjoy the views!
FYI-There is a new brewery that just opened next door, so the men can go there, while the ladies sip wine with their pinkies up!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah S.Hastings, MN695Aug 20, 2019
This is a mandatory stop if you enjoy wine!
We showed up 20 min before closing and the staff, Paula had already taken everything down for the day but she set up everything again so we could do the wine tasting. Which was excellent! We ended up buying serval bottles and she offered to stay late to show us facilities! So fun! The MN grown delicacy that northern vineyards offer is amazing! And they treat you like a friend not a customer. Best wine in the north!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We visited on a Friday evening during a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. The woman running the tasting was very knowledgeable and explained each wine in great detail. She handled three groups tasting at the same time so efficiently that we were never waiting for our next sample. The tasting space has room for small groups and there is a patio with an amazing river view upstairs that's accessible through the large event space. If you're stopping at Maple Island next door for beer, it's worth your time to stop in for some delicious wine here too.

This place was just ok, for me. The views were beautiful, but the selection of wines were mediocre at best. The customer service left a lot to be desired as well.

Thank you for the feedback, Monika. We apologize for the unsatisfactory experience. This is not at all what we strive for. Fun little winery in the heart of downtown Stillwater. My personal favorite was lady slipper, then it was Oktoberfest. Friendly staff, greeted with a smile, and reasonable prices. $8 to try 6 wines and $12-$16 bottles of wine to purchase. Will definitely be back here when I'm in the area!

Visited this past weekend with my mom and friend. Very friendly staff. The space is very small, but located right next to the river with beautiful views from their outside deck.
Tastings are $5 per person which is amazing, and you get 10 small samples. I wasn't a fan of any of the dry wines, but I did enjoy their sweeter wines.
It was a fun experience in a very pretty location, and for $5, why not stop in for a tasting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richie D.Santa Barbara, CA4338181721293Jun 17, 2010
Conveniently located in downtown Stillwater, Minnesota on the St. Croix River, NVW offers wine tastings year around. They have a second floor outdoor deck which sits above the coast of the river near the lift bridge for a picturesque night of chilling with a wine bottle (or three).
I love wine tastings no matter how delicious the wine even tastes (in other words, I'm far from being a sommelier). With this in mind, I took advantage of NWV's 10 separate tastings for only $5. Now I must admit that my biggest complaint (even though I'm even happier with wine in my bloodstream, yet become more opinionated) was the unwelcoming employees. They had a younger and older lady who seemed to know more than the hints of flavors each wine possessed. They did not care to go into much more discussion or be socially friendly. They needed a little working up before they started to catch on to the conversation, so just know this ahead of time. As long as you go in here with a fun group all should be enjoyable amongst yourselves.
Note: Although I wasn't here on a Sunday, I found a little pamphlet that advertised their live music every Sunday evening May-September 7-9pm. Could be a fun option.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
