Well I am finally ready to review this place after having eaten here a couple of times. So this is probably one of the only Vietnamese spots in downtown JC. , I took my friend who was new to Vietnamese cuisine here.
The first time we were here Grilled Pork Chop, Shredded Pork & Crab Patty On White Rice and friend had the banh mi with chicken. Both the dishes were just ok, also the way they serve Banh mi is different than other Vietnamese spots. They give the chicken curry and bread separate unlike other places where the meat is already stuffed inside the bread with veggies.
During my subsequent visits I tried the pho and vermicelli. Again everything was just average in terms of taste. I would skip this place if I had an other good decent option of Vietnamese fare nearby.
The service here is also not very nice. When we asked for water our server kind of starred at us as if we were asking him to write a million dollar cheque. If then it took him 15 mins to get water to our table.
Overall not at all impressed!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 499921884646May 2, 2012
*** Disclaimer didn't have the Pho. ***
This review borders on 2.5 stars but, I am going to go back when I haven't had as much to drink and it's not 9:30 at night. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me.
First, the place smelled like straight up cleaning supplies: bleach, ammonia. I don't even know if I could have stayed longer. I got used to it but, at first I was actually quite disgusted and not at all psyched about sitting in the restaurant. This place has zero ambiance other than most likely authentic. This doesn't bother me much but for readers: It was pretty bare decor with some plastic tables and chairs.
The service was ok at best but again, I hear you go here for the food not the service. It was quite warm so we went with some spring rolls, marinated beef and a chicken with lemongrass dish. Everything minus the beef was pretty bland. Oily might you say. The spring rolls were mostly rice and not good at all. The chicken with lemon grass just had a lot of oil, and not much flavor at all. I had to dump like a whole bottle of hot sauce to get some great flavor. The marinated beef was quite good. Plus side of all this, the meal was cheap.
Now, I give this place 3 stars with the knowledge I can come back and give this place another whirl and I can update my review. But honestly, I don't think I'll be coming anytime soon.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2011
Nha Trang offers delicious, inexpensive, and very authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a bare-bones environment. My meal there consisted of an order of summer rolls, a small bowl of pho, and a salty pickled plum soda. The rice paper wraps on the summer rolls were just thick enough to keep the super-fresh pork, shrimp, mint, and vermicelli from poking through, without feeling like a burden. The broth of the pho wasn't quite as intense as others I've had, but the garnishes were plentiful and brought out the best of the soup.
The only issue keeping this place from being a five-star dining experience was the service. Maybe it's because I wasn't a regular or because I was dining alone, but the server seemed very cold and distant. Nonetheless, I'll being going back.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jenn R.San Francisco Bay Area, CA157238378May 14, 2010
Pho...another type of noodle dish I adore. Something about it makes me feel so warm inside. It could be the scorching hot broth it comes in but I digress. I've had my fair share of pho in my day and age to know when it's good. From TX to CA to Korea (this was disgusting) to NJ to NY to MA...even homemade pho from my Viet friend's mom.
When I'm craving pho, I go here. The broth isn't too sweet, it's not too oily, the portion is just enough, the service is fast, and it always packed! 99% of the time I get pho tai. I don't like all the other stringy, cartilagey meat that you can add to your soup. I like to ask for extra lime and my meat on the side instead of in the soup. Personally, I enjoy the meat on the side because it tends to be a lot more tender when you add it on your own time rather than having the chef/cook add it in the back who knows when. Sometimes I get lazy and don't ask for it on the side...it's still good.
The fresh spring rolls are tasty. However, the fried spring rolls have a different texture than I've normally had. I'm not really a fan of the fried so I can't really give my take on it. Try it and tell me what you think if you're curious :)
Word of advice-Once you're seated and they give you a few minutes to see what you want to order...order when they ask the first time around. If you wait and ask them to come back they don't because it's usually pretty busy. I also think there are a lot of regulars that come by and already know what they want even before looking at the menu.
Wanna try? Pho sure! (oh gah this is another pho place in the city that's WACK. Okay, sorry not wack just not good.)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jan 24, 2011
My friend Jerry took me to Nha Trang Place for the first time, and it fairly good--especially because there aren't many Vietnamese places near Hoboken. Of course, I tried the Pho Ga (if you know me, you know Pho is of my favorites).... and it was tasty! I could have used some additional accoutrements (cilantro, basil, etc.), but, otherwise, the Pho was good. Jerry got a pork dish, which looked yummy, too (in fact, I had a little case of food envy).
The only thing that I didn't care for at Nha Trang Place was the atmosphere. The place just reminds me of a hospital cafeteria--the hard surfaces, the bland, nondescript furniture, unattractive decor, etc. On the plus side, there is ample parking (the place has a shared lot on the side).Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mar 30, 2012
I was told at a Yelp Elite party that this Nha Trang was better than the ones in New York.
Are they even related?
Or do they just share a popular name?
Regardless, I'm not sure if I'm ready to agree...not yet, at least. My bowl of Pho was good, but it wasn't great. The broth was tasty, but not great. The portions for this extra large combo bowl were skimpy, but I'm not deducting any stars for that. By now, I'm kinda used to that out here. If I were to rate the Pho alone, I'd give it three stars. Since I came here with my mom and GF (I usually Pho alone), I was able to try their orders (grilled chicken and shrimp salad) and I enjoyed it all.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Melissa D.Matawan, NJ400502750Jun 23, 2011
I've eaten at Nha Trang Place a handful of times with my best friend and each time it's good service and great/cheap food! How can you beat that! The place itself is a decent size with enough seating. They have larger tables if you're expecting a huge party. Their minimal Asian décor reminds me of being in someone's home. Great thing about this place, especially with it being in JC, is that they have a parking lot. Not the biggest, but at least it's something!
I ate here this past weekend with my bf and her husband for a late lunch. The elderly man that seated us and also took our orders was so cute. He kept saying "Thank you" to us for everything, even when we were the ones supposed to be saying thank you! We started off with 2 orders of Summer Rolls. My best friend had the Beef Tips over Rice, her husband got the Grilled Chicken over Rice, and I got the Pork Chops over Rice. I've had the Pork Chops before and they were delicious as usual. I had a bite each of the Beef Tips as well as the Grilled Chicken and they were both very tasty and flavorful. Cooked just right too! They give you a ton of rice .. every carb lovers dream and every dieter's nightmare. Some veggies also came on the side of our plates, cucumbers and tomatoes.
With all the food we ordered, our total only came out to $33. Gotta love delicious and cheap Viet food!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Andre N.Jersey City, NJ544372249Mar 27, 2012

- mentionable broth
- recommend: marinated beef cubes and pho w/ fresh eye of round or grilled chicken
- favorite of the boyfriend's but falls short of my vietnamese go-to because the service is slower and the portions are smallerHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 5975751355Aug 22, 2011
Good cheap food but do NOT pay with your debit or credit card.
The service wasn't great but they did not ignore us so we decided to give them an 18% tip. But when I checked my transactions online they charged over 20% for tip. That was so unfair for them to choose their own tip.
My parents really like their food so it would be a shame to lose a regular restaurant for us. Nonetheless, I will always pay with cash if we decide to return.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
