Where to begin? My fiance and I decided to take a blind stab at this decent appearing Italian joint that is located in an old Victorian-looking house off of the busy HWY 99. I am not the type to complain at a restaurant. I am not the type to write nasty reveiws as anyone can go on an off night. However, my experience has. . .inspired me to sign up and give a warning to any other hungry, unsuspecting suckers who may wander through their house-like door.
We should have known something was off upon arrival. It was nearly 7:00 on a Saturday, and the only people there were the staff who were loudly socializing with eachother while we waited patiently at our table. I even heard a cooking lesson of sorts in process from the brutish chef as he attempted to dazzle the waitstaff. Upon ordering wine, nearly all selections were "temperarily out of stock." We were given a suggestion that, upon receiving our check, we descovered was nearly $20 more than anything that was actually on the menu.
The food itself was borderline edible, but only for those who enjoy all foods to be from a can. Seriously, the mushrooms, the spinach. . .unmistakenly canned. Not to mention the pre-entree "salad" which consisted of a few brown, wilted chunks of iceburg, yeah iceburg, lettuce, and mushy bits of tomato. My $85 would have been better spent on a swimmingpool filled with ping-pong balls to pelt myself in the head with for even thinking of going to this place without checking first.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - J M.Hubbard, OR36Oct 26, 2009
This place should really be avoided!
My wife and I decided to give this place a try on a recent date-night. The place has a quaint feel. However, we didn't get to enjoy this as we were seated by the door. We had to ask to move to another table to avoid the drafts.
We ordered the toasted ravioli appetizer and a couple of drinks. The ravioli was OK, but the marinara dipping sauce was a very bland offering of crushed tomatoes. The drinks took quite a long time to arrive.
My wife ordered the Chicken Dina and I ordered the Spaghetti with Meatballs and Sausage (I asked for both at an extra, reasonable charge). My wife received eggplant that was undercooked and was generally unimpressed with her dinner. I too, was unimpressed when I tried a bite. Not a lot of flavor there.
My dinner was far worse. I don't think that the 'chef' knows what salt is as everything we ate was extremely dull. My spaghetti tasted of crushed tomatoes and basil - a LOT of basil. It overpowered everything. The meatball was very bland, but the sausage was flavorful. The spaghetti was well cooked and I found this was the only compliment I could offer on the meal.
We finally had to ask for salt and pepper (and my wife dislikes too much salt). I threw some crushed red pepper on my meal in the hopes of giving it some flavor other than basil.
I will say that the portions were very large, but so was the price.
Oh, and I finished the night by eating the cocktail onion from my gin gibson. This was a mistake that nearly cost me the contents of my stomach! It would seem that I had finally found the salt they'd been hiding. That onion must have been 95% salt.
The wait staff was nice enough and the service was good, but if eating is your aim, then I would say to go somewhere - anywhere else!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jeff C.Lake Stevens, WA589897Aug 30, 2010Updated review
We came back into Tigard today (on vacation in the area) and were looking forward to visiting NY,NY despite the recent reviews. As we drove by we saw the windows covered over as they were repainting the exterior and some kitchen equipment in the parking lot. I called their number - disconnected. Their website - gone to a reseller.
Looks like they are closed for good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 7, 2009Previous reviewIf your an East Coast transplant and miss that old fashioned dining experience, (3 hours for dinner with lots and lots of plates passing all around the table) New York, New York is your salvation. If you're out by yourself, or on a casual date, the service is quick enough for you to enjoy authentic east coast flavor and a variety of desserts either made from scratch or imported from Italy. If you've never passed east of the state line - this is your chance to see what your friends are talking about. You'll finally understand that line in the Godfather 'Leave the gun, take the cannoli.'
My wife and I have eaten there twice while visiting Portland. She's from New Jersey and grew up eating dinners like those NY/NY serves. The first time was for a late Sunday afternoon lunch and again a week later for Saturday dinner. On Sunday, they were nearly empty and our food was delivered very fast, about 10 minutes from order to serving. Saturday, during the dinner rush, took about 45 minutes. Since everything is made from scratch (no cookie-cutter assembly here) you have to be able to talk and enjoy your appetizers and a glass of wine, just like they do back east.
We split the Toasted Raviolli and Clams Casino for appetizers during both visits. The first visit I had Linguini & Clams and my wife had the Veal Milanese. The L&C was delicious, with a peppery white wine sauce. My wife was left nearly speechless by the creamy & smooth texture of the Milanese, with a hint of lemon overtones.
On our second visit, she had the Veal Saltimbocca Romano with "a pleasant saltiness from the procutto, the bite from the fresh spinach and all of it covered with the ooey, gooey blend of melted provolone and mozerella". Yeah - she liked it...
(Aside - she also said "I've had a lot of Italian food in a lot of places since we moved and this is as close as it gets without being in Momma's kitchen. They must have raided some old ladies cupboards for the recipies.)
I had the Veal Parmigiana, and since there was so much of each meal, we brought about half back to our hotel for lunch the next day. She had the cannoli for dessert during both stops, and I had the NY style cheesecake the first time and the Chocolate Cheesecake the second. OMG!! The CCC is actually a white chocolate with a dark chocolate ganache and chocolate crust. YUMMY!!!
They do have a lounge, but we didn't go in there as we were aiming for the food. The service was very good and we left with bills under $100 total for both trips (Apps, Dinner, Wine, Dessert & Tip).
Overall, this is a very, very good place to eat and enjoy an evening with family and friends. If you don't care to associate with many people - they have take out, and it may draw you out of the house.

This was by far the worst Italian food I have ever had. I ordered the shrimp scampi which was described on the menu as shrimp sauteed in herbs and butter with spaghetti and garlic bread on the side.
When it came, the shrimp was obviously overcooked and my guess would be frozen not fresh as the texture closely resembled chewing on an eraser. Not to mention the spaghetti was literally floating in the butter sauce. Really the only good things I can say are the garlic bread was fair, and the spaghetti itself was cooked correctly.
This place is way overpriced for what they have to offer, the music was terrible, and the staff although they were nice, obviously had no idea what they were doing. I would not recommend it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bun R.Portland, OR73229Aug 1, 2009
Picked up a pizza here to go in an emergency. The spinach appeared to be frozen and the crust was not very impressive. I'll avoid this location in the future. Next time I need to take a pizza to King City I'll pick it one up from Pizzacato or Hot Lips.

This restaurant is operating in the old house that built in victorian style. Becasue Tigard is not a busy and metropolitan city. The crowds there seem to be laid back and surburban. People dress very old fashion to eat there. It has video lottery area if you want to gamble while waiting for table.
The restaurant served very big portion of Prime Rib. I had prime rib there. The meat was very tender and have sesame seasoning marrinated on the edge. I went there with four of my friends. Though we were early for the reservation but we got seated right away by very friendly waitress. It is a upscale place for a neighborhood like Tigard, OR.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
