Wow Monday nights at Nasty are...nasty. I had heard about this bar and was surprised I've never been while in college. 6 years later, lo and behold I try it for the first time and did not truly know what to expect. Needless to say, I engaged in many a dance battle that night with some interesting cats and my thighs burned so badly. Drinks were also cheap which is helpful liquid courage to get out on the floor. I LOVE this place! Yes there are a lot of dudes though, they should run a ladies night special.

It's 1 am and you're leaving a bar with your girlfriend by your side and your heels in hand. That's when you know you popped, bumped, grinded, locked and just about dropped it. Walking barefoot down the road to yer car you realize THIS AIN'T YO MAMA'S GHETTO!
~Drinks will be spilled on you by various Nasties - free alcohol, people.
~Snoop, Biggie and Tupac are overflowing in the spin - round up the gin and juice and back that ass up in the back seat, ho.
~Plenty of people are doin' the humpty dance and the doin' it doggie style dance, in total threesome form - do not join or you might disappear never to be seen again.
~No strobe, colored or even black lights are to be found around the dance floor - shut up and dance on that raised plywood dance floor, bitch.
~No windows and no ventilation other than a metal trailer park fan and a small outside area for smoking - shut up and like it bitch.

Read 3.5 stars. No, really.
Mondays can be good days when you live in Austin, Texas. I have been to Hip-hop Mondays at Nasty's many times. I like to tell my friends about Hi-hop Mondays at Nasty's. I'm white, and I'm kinda old (and I work with teachers because I am one), so when I mention Nasty's it's always after an opening clarifying salvo.
Something akin to: "Don't let the name discourage you, but..."
Or, "No one gets naked here, but..."
Or (to the math teachers), "I'm only telling you this so you'll never go, but..."
Anyway, for me there's something delicious about Nasty's. The bathroom makes me gag. (I hear the girls' restroom has a chaise and Laura Ashley Home Collection wallpaper!) The drinks make me whimper. The music makes me want to shed my whiteness and effing move like I mean it for once in my life.
It's a sweet slice of Austin is what it is. I like Nasty's, mostly on Mondays. -

Got there last night before 10PM. No cover. 2 women, 13 dudes. 2 women = bartenders. My friends were concerned I walked them into...well, an all male bar. Seriously. I assured them I heard great things about this place....by 11:15/11:30 it was packed. Plenty of women.
The dance floor is carpeted and people of all walks of life can be seen taking to it. the DJ played a lot of NYC type jams (not a lot of bass, not gangsta for the most part).
However he did mix in some different styles and managed to get in some of the popular radio hits here and there. After midnight he was pumping old school jams and there were some "dance offs" (breakdancing included). It was a GREAT night. Go if you want to dance, be prepared to sweat even if you don't. The outside "smoking" area was nice and not really smokey at all.
I spent $13 for 3 draft beers at a time all night (my 2 friends and I rotated rounds). I believe the cover the rest of the night was $4? You never really waited TOO long to get drinks no matter how packed it was.
If you like to just go out and dance, this is a GREAT Monday night spot. -

You had me at "bras and thongs on the ceiling and a beer tap with a boy peeing." I don't care if that makes me shallow.
This place could serve about any need you have. Watching a game, shooting some pool, throwing darts, dark booth to cop a feel in, inappropriate t-shirt party. Gotta love the versatility.
Service got a little slow, there was seemingly a door man, a bartender and a couple of guys in the vicinity of the bar but not doing anything. Maybe they were barbacks but it got tough to get a drink later.
And I'm sorry, I know it's a dive bar, but that bathroom is a joke. No seat on the toilet or tp, so I guess if you have to drop the kids at the pool you are SOL? And the tap barely had water to wash your hands and no paper towels either. Next time I'm just going to go to the gravel parking lot and drop trou. -

This reminds me of growing up in South Texas. If you're looking for an authentic dive bar then you must add this little gem to your list. I have no idea how we got there but when we did there were no windows...just a door (seedy).
The inside is exactly what you would expect...dark, dirty, small and dusty. It appears this used to be or is still a rugby watering hole which would make a lot of sense.
Drinks were cheap and the staff was nice. There's flat screens showing sports or SNL, darts and a pool table.
Only one bathroom toilet which should give you an indication of how small this place is. -

Super fun dive bar. Had to pay cover on a Monday night - $3 for girls and $4 for guys - which I wasn't wild about. Drinks were pretty cheap inside though, and the DJ was pretty awesome. Very mixed crowd of people, in a good way.

I don't have anything nasty (rim shot) to say, really.
Nasty's is another Austin dive bar worthy of repeat visits. The prices are great along with the selection. While a bar this close to UT might attract a lot of students, the crowd has always been a cool one and never grated on me.
The bartenders have always been conversation and friendly, and I really can't say anything bad. I've had different friends from all different groups go here and all equally enjoy their time. Try it out!Listed in: Keep it Flowin'

I am giving five to the dive baby. How have I never been here? It's just like the quintessential dive bar - strong drinks, dark as hell, dirty (literally, dust balls) halfhearted panties on the ceiling.
I had about 282910 drinks for $19. Seriously. They've got an outside patio, darts, pool and lots of amazing beers on tap. My favorite was the tap that looked like a little boy peeing. He was peeing out some really great beer too.
Bottom line is I'll be back to nastys for some of that naaaazty goodness. And maybe throw in a hip hop night for some street cred. -

On of the best places to be on a Monday night. I left this place dripped in sweat. Dancing the night away to top of the charts rap, old school hip hop and reggae. The DJ had the whole crowd going and I was tearing up the dance floor. Loved it! The drinks or so so. I stayed until they turn the lights on. The staff rushed everyone out the door. They were pretty animate about getting people out. I would suggest you leave 30 minutes or more before they shut down.

I was introduced to Nasty's over 10 years ago (I'm old - there, I said it)... it was my cousin's favorite bar. So whenever he went out, this is the place we would meet up. I went many times in my younger years... and then recently stepped through the door to find the EXACT SAME BAR. Not a thing has changed... and for that, I'm pretty glad. I always liked this place - it's divey, friendly, and fun. The people are chill and the bartenders cool.
If you're looking for a good place to relax and get your drink on... and like the dive bars - then this is your place. We went on a Friday at 8ish, and it was pretty empty. Of course there were the people in there that were already super drunk - but come on, that's one of the characteristics of a dive bar, right? It would have been nicer if the most drunk guy in there hadn't hit on me, but there are worse things in the world, I think. -

Since moving to Hyde Park, I got to fall in love with Nasty's all over again. I hadn't been there in about ten years....the first and only time was when my now long dead band played there. I started going back when my buddies and I needed somewhere to walk to. I go on the early side, so no one is usually there when I get there and it is respectfully full by the time I leave. Their drinks are cheap and they have a yummy Crispin cider on tap. Since I'm gluten free this is excellent news. I don't enjoy the outside deck much cuz it's always full of skeeters (the lacking star above is for the skeeters!). Inside the bartender is always sweet and lets me eat the mixed nuts I bring. They have darts and pool if that's your thing. Me likey.

I love this bar.
I've never been on a dance party night. Weekends are surprisingly laid-back, which is great. It's right off Guadalupe on the #1 line, so it's an easy bar crawl spot. The doorman, Travis, is fantastic, and for some reason I told him I'd write a Yelp review about him, so here we are! The bartenders are friendly and make great drinks, as well. The patio is great in this weather, though I'm not sure if they pull out heaters for winter. Either way, this place is great. -

I have been to Nasty's on several occasions and while there is nothing that really separates it from any other dive bar, there isn't anything that screams stay away. Bartenders are always friendly, they have a very good list of beers on tap (way more than you would think), your basic call and premium liquors and when last we were there, frozen margaritas. (??) They do have a patio, but it mainly serves the purpose for smokers rather than sitting out and enjoying. Decent jukebox and they have pool and steel tip dart boards. Drink specials are usually domestic beers and well drinks, but you still won't break the bank even if you feel the need to pull W.C. Fields for the night.
I've been here for happy hour and I once closed it down and it has never been too crowded. And I don't mean that as a bad thing, it's perfect when for wanting to drink and be left alone. Good for small groups of if you want to drink alone and chat with the regulars. -

Superdupercalifraginastylicousness just off the drag in the heart of Hyde Park. The Nasty's is closed Sundays, so I have found it best to only go Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Hey it is on my way home from Little Woodrow's. Stop Judging Me!
I feel my previous review deserves an update as I've gotten to know and love the little place a lot more in the past two years. When the bastard's closed our beloved Showdown last May - The Nasty's took us in.
Nasty's has its faults (READ MEN'S BATHROOM), and the regular Lone Star price is .75 cents too high. That said, I've sort of fallen for the place over the past few years. Mainly it is the people I think.
It does not hurt that I positively adore the two main bartenders, my friends, "L" and "J." They take such good care of my wife and I, it is hard to go anywhere else really.
The Nasty's Ladies and I are single handedly bringing back the classic cocktail, "The Rickey." I was discussing the advantages of "The Rickey" line of beverages with my wife, and "L" overheard me and mentioned she made something similar for her friends. She experimented a little and boiled the cocktail version down to a shooter, and VIOLA! "The Rickey" was born again in Austin, TX. Pop in and ask for one.
A lime or vodka Rickey is just vodka, alot of lime and a splash of soda shaken(NO SUGAR). I've experimented with a GIN RICKEY, a regular RICKEY (Bourbon) and even a Jaeger RICKEY. I can't recommend the latter really. Anyways, I like to think that my bartenders at Nasty's add a special ingredient, LOVE. Or maybe it is just a stiff pour.....No I think it is LOVE.
The Rickey will be the "in" drink inside of a year. The new Mojito or Cosmo. You will be ordering one at the Four Season's and telling your friends about how you read about The Rickey on yelp so long ago. They will be greatly impressed. Some of you uncouth heathen that lack my historical knowledge of the art of the cocktail will undoubtedly ask, "Hey isn't that just a vodka soda." To which I can only reply, "SUCK IT."
Enough about The Rickey, back to the good folks at Nasty's. My friend, "L" the raven haired glasses wearing stunner from my last review is still there. Besides the Rickey, she has her own signature drink, The Librarian. Tastes sorta like a vodkadized orange creamsicle. Packs quite a wallop too. "L" has a rare +5 bartender ability. I don't know if she puts truth serum in the drinks or what, but I have seem to have an innate need to share inappropriately personal things with her. I try to tip her well for the free therapy and just for putting up with me.
"J" is a relatively new arrival. She's the coolest thing since Ray-bans or maybe sliced bread, or maybe air-conditioning. I dunno think of something really cool, then something cooler than that, and this lady is twice as cool as that. In summation she is a pretty cool lady. A kind old Austin soul, I'm glad I know her. Plus she can make a mean Rickey!
I guess I sorta love the Nasty's Ladies, I tell them all the time too. Whenever I close out, I say, "BYE I LUFF YOU." But there are other folks at Nasty's too......
The owner, Jack, who is a nice guy and a stellar bartender in his own right. The bouncer "A" who once told a frat guy that was mad at me, "Don't mess with this guy, he has scabs older than you." Which honestly, I was a little hurt by, but I appreciated the protective sentiment.
The old regular, "J" who once in the space of an hour called me a sloppy dresser, elitist, racist, socialist, a republican and an asshole. He's a joy. (I have it on good authority he was right on the last one there.)
There are the rugby players that come on Thursdays. The Nasty's is a rugby bar. The Austin Huns show up there after practice and whenever else they want. So if big sweaty guys in short shorts is your thing, Thursdays is your night. On the balance they seem like good peoples, plus they have their own groupies.
The second Wednesdays of every month they have stand up comedy. The guys are pretty good really. Lately about once a month they have been having a Rockabilly night, with some excellent bands and a really fun crowd. Who knew I loved Rockabilly?
Mondays is hip hop night, I really like the DJ's. They will get that disco ball moving and get people to dance the night away. I never stay too late Mondays though. Tuesdays, is $2.00 domestics. Wednesday's is cheap domestic pitcher night, and Thursdays is $1.75 millers. They have drink specials too.
I had been popping into the Nasty's for awhile. But it was never really a destination for us until they closed the Showdown. Nasty's stepped up and took us in. Now when I walk into the Nasty's it feels like home. Which is about the biggest compliment I can give a neighborhood bar.
Stop by say hi and have a Rickey!Listed in: Don's Neighborhood, Where Don Drinks

Review from Stu R.
Hip Hop night on Monday with DJ Mel is pretty much an institution. If you go early enough, you don't have to pay cover. DJ Mel is totally a badass. The guy plays at a lot of the major music festivals (coachella, lolla), but you can hear him basically every monday for free!
Even when it's cold outside, expect it to be hot and sweaty where the dance action (i.e. the entire place) is happening.
Nasty's isn't expensive, but I wouldn't say it's all that cheap. I bought a few rounds of well drinks, a couple pitchers of beer, some liquor shots... I think I ended up paying about 60 or 80 bucks? Not great, but not highway robbery level. -
Review from Kevin N.
To the guy who keeps asking "hey, hot enough for you?" the answer is "yes. Yes it is." It's a cooker out there, folks, just ask your local weather dude. But that's nothing compared to the smoking DJ Mel and company were firing up at Nasty's on Monday night. I don't know if it's just because it's summer and we all need a release, or if it's because this place has been re-found out, but one thing's certain. Wear your asbestos britches, 'cause your ass is about to catch fire on the dance floor.
Couple the above with ample brew selections that serve to belie the size of this place and you can see why Monday's are a happening, the rest of the week a respite from regular life. There are tables out back on the patio bent toward the art of friendship, and a pool table inside presumably when the place isn't jumping. But when it is? Stand back or get down, your call.Listed in: Drinking in Austin, Austin Dive Bars, Beer in Austin: B is for Beer

Oddly enough, I was introduced to Nasty by a friend from Delaware. What surprised me more about my Blue Hen native friend was he'd once greeted Sean "Puffy" Combs / Puff Daddy / P Diddy / Now-it's-just Diddy walking down the street in New York one night... and he wasn't wearing shades! This monumental testimony shattered all the assumptions I've ever harbored about dear Diddy till then. I would never see him the same again.
Back to Nasty. I'd seen the sign going into Amy's next door but was always put off by the name. Nasty. What, exactly, about Nasty's makes it substantially more gross than other dive-y bars of its caliber? The bathrooms? The far corner of the dancefloor? God forbid the worn Golden Tee Unplugged arcade simulator in the back? No, and I can't explain the confusion felt seeing someone play that game while bopping out to Ludacris and Jay Z, but it made us want to call everyone Short-ay.
In case you were wondering, the reason Nasty makes their drinks so affordable is that in lieu of pint glasses, the bartenders prefer to use red plastic cups to serve you your Live Oak in. You know, fraternity-like. The bathrooms are of the same standard you'd hold most dive bars. Monday nights, starting no earlier than about 10:30, DJ Mel spins Hip-Hop from before Bobby Brown to Snoop to Q-Tip & Diddy to Ludacris and so so many more. It's a beautiful, vibrant thing:

Monday is for DJ Mel to take your troubles away and mix the hip hop right, and Nasty's is the place to be. Did your week already go by the wayside? Address the problem ASAP with some cheap drinking and dancing on the (smallish) floor at Nasty's. The dancing usually gets started by 11, and you will find yourself singing along to songs you didn't even know you knew, cringing at the 90s outfits that come screaming into your memory in vibrant color. And... doesn't M.I.A. have another song besides Paper Planes? Well gee golly gosh she DOES - whole other albums even, and I was shocked when DJ Mel threw down Galang, a little Fire Fire, THEN a little Stevie Wonder (Sir Duke), then my favortie reggae song from when I was TWELVE!
I get hyper just thinking about it.Listed in: Dance 10, Looks 3

Nasty's is pure sweet sweetness! I truly like this place. I've been there a handful of times over the past couple of years and have a great to mediocre time each time.
Nasty's has FANTASTIC SPECIALS! If you're on a budget but still want a place to smoke and drink then this is your spot.
The ambiance is not particularly nice, but come on, it's called NASTY'S folks. They warned you before you even came in the door.
The smoking patio is pretty sweet as well. -

Nasty's is perfect for a certain mood. Where to go when you want to go out but not really go out, play some pool, have some drinks.
2 pool tables (although the poolcues suck and need to be replaced), good pours, good jukebox, friendly staff, comfortable and kind of dirty.
Perfect, especially when school is out and it's not swarming with students.Listed in: I Drink Here

Some nights this place is 5-star some nights 2-star. Monday's hip-hop is not my thing but the nights they have stand up can be pretty entertaining. If you arrive before 10 you pretty much have the place to yourself and the free bar-games (pool and darts). Some nights this will be your typical dive, some nights there's the rugby crowd, some nights there's a frat/sorority mixer.
The drink specials are pretty good and bartenders nice and unpretentious. -

I kind of like the fact that Nasty's customers are evenly divided between obnoxious frat and sorority types and bukowski-esque figures. A great place to chill after a small group bike ride, or to go and drink alone and be miserable.
Nasty's is the kind of place where John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer," scenario could play out convincingly. Plus, you can steal glances at the beautiful, sun-golden sorority girls and bitterly reflect on why nice guys finish last. The perfect place to languish. -

I'm embarrassed to say that I was actually kind of scared of this place until just recently. They've got a pretty rough looking exterior - it just seemed like the kind of place where you'd walk in and everyone would be wearing leather and staring at you and you'd just slowly back out.
But I went in here just last month and since then I've been back twice. Nasty's is tiny and friendly and unpretentious - just what you want in a neighborhood bar. It's not all rough-looking guys, and on weeknights you might get a rugby team watching videos of their glory days or college kids chatting for hours. The frozen margaritas are great too, and everything's dirt cheap.
Give Nasty's a try and you'll be back for more. -

I'm not into dive bars, but hey it's a good, college crowd! Met students from the University of Austin, TX here. The cover was pretty cheap. I think it was like $3 or something.

I'm open to fun new places, but this by far is not it! DJ Mel to start is outdated and rude. He plays out done tunes and thinks he's the next 'deadmau5' or 'girl talk' and hes actually 'no one' stuck in his own fantasy...sucks The crowd is weird and I wish i stayed at home to watch any lame series on tv instead. Thats all I have to say...close to central campus for young folk, but bad for anyone looking for a good time.

Awesome neighborhood bar. Really good selection of draft beers--looked like about 50 on tap. Prices are pretty good. The bartender on last Friday night appeared to be serving over a hundred people single-handedly. I think I saw her fill two different drink orders while simultaneously pouring a pitcher for my group. Good times.

Nasty's has a remarkably classy undertone to their grimy facade, primarily displayed in their tap wall. Never has a place, considered by many to be "divey", had such an impressive collection of local crafts (512, Real, Shiner, et al) and foreign rarities (Blache de Bruxelles and the like).
Once you're drinking your fancypants beer, you can take in the bar rot. My favorite spot -- likely everyone's favorite, duh -- is the outdoor patio, which is rife with interesting conversations and generally friendly -- and pleasantly pished -- consumers.Listed in: Austin Lounges

An awesome place to get reasonably priced cold-draft beer without having to put up with any kind of attitude or snobby customers. People are generally down to earth, conversational, and gregarious.
Has an outside bier garten/smoking patio. Big TV's, pool tables, and for some reason, I really like the bathrooms at Nasty's. -

My friends told me ..never go to Nasty's. I went anyways. I think they were scared off by the name.
Located in the hip area of Guadalupe ( near Amy's and Mangia's) tucked away in a corner with a skeezy looking exterior and filled with pretty typical 20 something college crowd, Nastys wasn't anything like what I imagined it to be.
It seemed to be a great place to grab a beer and hang out post work. A friend told me that every night after work he and all his co workers would make Nasty's their home. Apparently they also have a pretty exciting hip hop night on Mondays. Ive never been but plan on checking it out in the near future. So maybe the name is kind of scary, but past the name is a pretty chill little bar, with decent beer and sometimes live music. -

Mondays at Nasty's is real tight, one of the best places to dance in Austin. DJ Mel plays that good shit every Monday. Good hip hop, sometimes turns into a huge sing along. I'm a huge fan of Mondays at Nasty's, the patrons are real people far away from all six street bullshit.
On every other night, Nasty's is a pretty chill bar with a good Jukebox. I've never had a bad night. It's not a destination bar- I probably wouldn't go so much if I didn't live right across the street, but it's a solid place that I'm proud to call my neighborhood bar. -

Nasty's is one of the few names of a place I know of that is completely appropriate without being the least bit tacky or offensive.
I've been to Nasty's on Tuesday nights when it's full of college kids drinking beer straight from the pitchers and chain smoking cigarettes while listening to music that's entirely too loud. In other words, Nasty's is an unbelievably good time.
If the agenda described above is what you're after - loud music, crowded beer drinking, college fun - you'll find no better spot then Nasty's. -

One is pretty hard-pressed to find a club/bar that plays decent hip-hop in this town. However, Monday nights at this hole in the wall definitely does not disappoint if you're in the mood to shake your badonkadonk to some hella fresh hip hop from back in the day. This is my go-to spot when I want to get hot and sweaty and hear truly good music, like tribe, de la soul, biggie smalls, etc. DJ Mel makes the club get crunk by spinning one fine tune after another. The crowd on Monday nights is pretty eclectic and includes folks such as a dancing cowboy who has moves that suggest he must have been an *exotic* dancer at some point in his life.
Make it a point to check this place out on Mondays if you're a hip hop fanatic and love to dance! -

Nasty's is A-OK. Went for a Saturday night and continued my drinking and day-long dance-a-thon, surely made a fool of my self but as I had on a cute outfit (jean skirt, white collared shirt with a classic wool vest, top it off with cowboy boots and a cute hair cut) I think I got away with some strange behavior. Don't remember coming home but I do recall a good time- loud and obnoxious- at the bar, and an adorable door man.
Oh, I expected they would have only crappy domestic shit beer and it turns out they have some classics like Guinness and some great surprises like Mirror Pond. Who knew? I will return!
