ALWAYS A WINNER!
I have been a patron on this restaurant ever since it opened in Levis Commons in 2007. The food is great, the entertainment is ... well, entertaining, and the drinks are plentiful!
The ONLY reason that I would not give it 5 stars is that it is a Hibachi Restaurant, and can be difficult to talk to a group of people while eating. If you are bringing a client that you hope to have dinner conversation with, this might not be the best choice. If you are bringing a client to entertain, then this is the place for you!
Children are always at Nagoya, and since there is constant action, there never seems to be an issue. Factor in that the place is loud, a family wouldn't have to worry about crying babies or children who speak loudly!
Management staff is always on duty, and will ensure you have a fantastic time!!! The price is very reasonable, and you will always leave feeling very full!
Just came home - had a great time. We opted for the Hibachi Meal and it was entertaining They had an open bar while you waited for the table to be open and live music was playing tonight. The portions were huge and everyone opted for take-home boxes.
Our Chef was "Dave" and he worked quickly to prepare the food and to engage all of the guests in an entertaining manner.
I highly encourage the "Happy Buddha" drink - it was very sweet and you got to take the buddha mug home as an added gift! ($10 and well worth it).
Nagoya is a Japanese steakhouse and sushi bar and as a Japanese steakhouse they have hibachi chefs there to entertain w/ knife and spatula tricks. Including the whole smoke stack of onions train bit along w/ the always embarrassing flipping of food from the spatula at your face and onto the floor routine. The food was good and the staff friendly and fun.
Ultimately, this is where you go on special occasions w/ groups or if you are out of town on business.
Atmosphere - Dark, modern, new. The place has several tables w/ hibachi grills with a sushi bar located off to the right side as you enter. The restaurant also has an area where you can sit in a traditional table setting. Servers wore clean black smocks w/ the chefs in traditional chefs outfits.
Food - The food was delicious as expected. I had the steak and chicken combo meal that came w/ ginger salad, rice and soup. The steak was tender and juicy w/ the chicken being equally as good. My coworker had sushi. I had some of the Asian Roll (tuna, salmon, crab, lettuce, cucumber wrapped with rice paper) she ordered and it was good and cut nicely. The sweet & sour soup was basic and good.
Service - The staff was quick and friendly.
Despite the numerous times I have seen the spatula show, this chef made it entertaining. For some reason all the females at the table (four) caught what was flipped and all the men missed. Hmmmm, do think the chef was trying to make us look bad?? ha!
Overall - No matter how predictable the "show" was, I had a great enjoyable meal for $38 + tip and in the end, on a week night, that is all you can ask.
GO TO NAGOYA! That's all I have to say, its more than just sushi, its more than just a steakhouse. I have been there several times in the past few months and absolutely can't stop ordering the same thing over and over again, its just that good. If you can make your way over to the Sushi Bar and sit with Rayza, then you are especially in for a treat. But even if he is not there, everybody is exceptional at what they do and you should be thankful to have this restaurant in Northwest Ohio.
But there is a sushi roll called the Nagoya Roll. What a name to live up to right? But it does so in a magical way, this warm cooked sushi roll blended with the best of flavors can warm you to your core. I knew it was going to be good before it landed on the bar in front of me. But when I took the chopsticks and placed it in my mouth (mind you, it doesn't need Wasabi, pickled ginger or soy sauce) a tear came to my eye. I felt loved, warm and amazed. Sounds like something else, I dare not to say.
That wasn't the first part, but it could have been the only thing I ate and been completely satisfied. Before that, Rayza gave me a seaweed and cuttlefish salad to clean my pallet. My reaction? I rolled my eyes back and looked to the ceiling as I emphasize, "WONDERFUL!" The Spicy Tuna Roll, never had a bad experience anywhere, Nagoya is no different. Love Beef Teriyaki? Then you might end up proposing to Nagoya's version. The Fried Calamari, its definitely fresh and delicious. I want to write so much more, but I am already hungry. So let's talk about drinks.
The Happy Buddha was delicious, not to strong, but definitely one for those who enjoy drinking for the taste, not the punch. For those that want the punch, the Absolute Mess Martini is your ticket to Paradise.
The facility itself is beautiful, you walk in an sea the receptionist standing infront of a wall that includes a curved saltwater fish tank. Through the tank you can see flames being thrown by the Hibachi chefs as you can hear the patrons laughter and amazement. To the right, a bar/lounge that I could probably relax at everyday, nice and quiet for conversation and just to sit down and watch the sports. The Sushi Bar, tucked near the kitchen next to the bar, has the fresh fish neatly displayed in cooler displays, the fish of the day/week can prepared in numerous ways, last time I went BLUE FIN. (Yes!)
I love Nagoya, probably my favorite steakhouse, end of story.
This place is amazing. Great food, great ppl, okay drinks.
In few words, excellent decor! Great food! The chef didn't do a lot of tricks though. IMHO, Sushi was done better than the steak.
