Q:
Visiting Bend for our first time end of March beginning of April 2019, and we would like to get our almost 5 year old son up on skis 🎿 for the first time. Is this a good place as far as price, young child friendly, snowfall, etc.?
A:
Absolutely. All the above. The mountain is certainly family friendly. The 5 year old should be put in a class with a Pro and along with others in the same age and level. The seasons are long. So late March early April will just fine. You can't go… more

One of the most under rated places to ski. Up there with Crystal, Alyeska, Alta, etc. Hard to go wrong here, Bend is a nice place to stay too

What a crappy MLK weekend at Mt Bachelor. They get 5 feet of fresh powder and then it rains on top. Ruined all the fresh snow.
Sunday was a beautiful day, but the lift operators couldn't get anything open. Pine Marten was delayed 2 hours and they never got any of the other quad lifts open all day (except Sunrise which is a kiddie lift).
Monday was a blue bird day, but same problem. They opened CloudChaser + Pine Marten, but nothing else. The lines were horrible!
I won't be wasting my time or money on this place again, until they get some better lift operations. The management gets a big fat F.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 89271705Feb 22, 2024
Beautiful blue bird day with great beer and fries for Apres, it is dope. People are very friendly and helpful. We lucked out with summit and northwest both open today.

Used to love this mountain. Not so much any more since PWDR took over. Money hungry corporation that has turned this once incredible and affordable mountain into a joke of deceptive price gouging, "Fast Trax pass" (if you make more $$ than others you can buy your way to skip the line...) 50% open 1/2 through the season with plenty of snow to go around- just short staffed because management doesn't know how to run a mountain properly.
Absolute travesty what has happened to this mountain. Northwest chair didn't open until Feb.... Half the mountain was closed until February for no reason other than poor management - complete joke.
Don't even get me started on the new president of Mount Bachelor John Merriman who likes to gaslight locals on his social media account...
0/5 stars. And this from someone who literally grew up riding in this mountain.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 13, 2023
We went on Christmas day. It was expensive. My daughter and I choose to ski only for half a day. I didn't think I would like it. Surprisingly, I liked it. I had booked my rentals and lift tickets online in the morning. When we arrived, we went to the box office to get our RFID lift pass. There was no line. The rental line was the same. I had already gave them all our information. The rental person made sure everything was accurate and had us out of there within minutes. There was no waiting at any of the lifts that we took. We had fun skiing down their hills.
We had lunch in their restaurant. My daughter was smart and got a ham sandwich. For some reason I ordered the worst tasting and looking teriyaki bowl/plate in the world. The meat looked like it was cooked in an instapot. The rice was mushy like they had too much water in it. I didn't finish it.
It was a good half day skiing here. I enjoyed Mt. Bachelor. Maybe I will come here again one day. But, no more ordering their beef bowl or whatever that thing was.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Dec 27, 2023
We did the snowshoeing with a ranger tour. What a sweet educational and fun activity for days you don't feel like skiing! The three rangers were entertaining and gave lots of cool info about Mt Bachelor! It's free too but they do suggest a $10 donation which was such a deal!

Powdr Corp. has ruined Mt. Bachelor. Due to the greed of this corporation, profits ALWAYS trump equity and inclusion and it's evident with every new decision by management. I grew up going to this mountain and before Powdr Corp. took over, Mt. Bachelor used to be a family friendly mountain with reasonable prices. However, most Bend families have no choice but to drive the extra distance to Hoodoo or spend their entire paycheck at Mt. Bachelor to watch rich people skip ahead of them with their new "fast pass" incentive. I have had plenty of bad experiences with Powdr Corp. management but my experience today takes the cake. It's important to note that in addition to raising prices and rolling out the fast pass system, Powdr Corp.'s next agenda is to eliminate the opportunity for low income families to learn how to ski for free at Sunrise Lodge. Last year Early riser and Alpenglow were free but now they require new skiers to pay $49 to access these two very small beginner lifts. I'm teaching my wife and 6-year old how to ski and since we can't afford the $147, we went up at 2:30pm today to ski the magic carpet (which will more than likely not be free next year). After using the carpet once, it broke down and the lift operator told us it won't be working for the rest of the day. As we were walking away from the carpet I overheard one of the employees say "I don't even know why we fix this thing. It's not like it generates any money." We then proceeded the Sunrise ticket office to explain our dilemma and hopeful that considering the situation, management would allow my family to use Early Riser lift knowing that the carpet was down and that there were only 4-6 people on the hill. Instead, we were told that our only option to ski before the mountain closed in 45min. was to pay the $147. Although my son looked pretty defeated in all of his ski gear, we unfortunately made the decision to drive the 40 minutes back home. This form of corporate greed is only going to continue ruining Mt. Bachelor for locals and I really hope that with enough complaints, Powdr Corp. will have no choice but to begin listening to their customers. At the very least this corporation should consider reallocating all of the money they are investing in the fast past system and put that money towards keeping Outback and Northwest open. Do better Powder Corp.

Came here for mountain biking during the summer and it was AWESOME! We rented bikes and bought a day pass which costed $150/person which is such a good deal! I live in California and the mountain biking in CA costs a lot more! They also provided elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet. They picked the right size of bike for us depending on our height and weight. The bikes were in tip top shape with an impressive amount of suspension. The trails on thw mountain were SO FUN! They had table tops, rubber turns, lots of jump opportunities, it was a playground! And chair lifts so there was no uphill riding. I will say the blue runs were more like black runs. The blues definitely translate to black runs at CA mountain biking parks. The staff were incredibly nice. I cant even explain their niceness it was off the charts! After a day of mountain biking, we went to the ski shop downstairs and bought a bunch of snowboard gear because they were having a huge sale. I bought boots and a board and they shipped the board to CA for me. Everything was 40% off it was awesome. The guy was very knowledgeable about the different boards and bindings. There were so many options but he listened to my needs and was very trustworthy. Thank you!!

Another trip to Mt Bachelor, better known as Mount Broken. It is the 29 of January, 2024 and one of the two longest chairs at Mt Broken, neither of which have turned this year, actually ran for the first time today. The Northwest chair then closed at 10:45. Our expectations are so low, some were happy that it actually opened. Running is a relative term as the motor is broken and it will run again this year (like last year) on evacuation power at slow speed.
Its almost February and the two biggest chairs have not run.
The new Skyliner chair (the old one was closed for almost 2 years) has been running some of the time. Closed for maintenance, ice, wind, breakdown, etc.
There are ski areas that get it done, and those that make excuses. Mt Broken spends millions on huge boarder jumps, charges $10 for a beer, and cannot even keep the lifts spinning. At most ski areas, having the lifts run is a given, if you want hassle free skiing, do not waste your time and money here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 9, 2022Previous reviewMonday report. Blue bird sunny, no wind, low teen temps, about an inch of new. Big crowd at Pine before opening which stayed big for hours. Summit opened at 11:45 and loaded till 1:00, running at 1/2 speed. Only chairs were Pine and Sunrise. Red never ran. Wake up Bachelor, the parking lot was about half full, and there are thousands more skiers living in town since Covid hit. Maybe two and a quarter (Summit at 1/2 speed for 75 minutes is about 2 runs) chairs is not enough for the current crowds. The blasting for slide control on Summit did not even start until 10 o'clock. I guess they really want to run summit as little as possible. If that is the case, then give the customers a third lift
May 8, 2022Previous reviewMt. Bachelor, Worst skier experience of all resorts I have been to in the last 20 years. Lift status; Skyliner problems last year and broken since January this season, Summit broken and running at half speed, Pine Martin having problems this week, Sunrise beginner lift open, Cloud Chaser closed, Outback closed, Northwest closed, Red chair closed. All other smaller lifts closed.
The Mountain is in a winter storm pattern, with high temps in the mid twenties and new powder daily. These excellent condition, with plenty of base to run any chair, are driving huge lines, limited grooming and so much negativity on the chair. It is barely worth the trip up if your a pass holder, and definitely not worth paying for gas and a ticket. A great opportunity to put on an epic spring season, but I guess they already have all the money, and could care less about the customers.
Powdr Corp puts nothing back into Bachelor. lifts are old, poorly maintained, in need of replacement and repair. Yet they spend millions building huge jumps, half pipe and countless other features which cost a fortune to maintain. Perhaps they should spend some of this on lift maintenance and replacement.
Unacceptable excuses from management.
-Lines are only on the weekend and will be gone tomorrow (Monday)
---Lies, Last Monday, same conditions with huge lines. Summit did not open till noon, and runs so slow, the lines were worse. Check the Web cam tomorrow (5/8/22) to see how they handle it. They usually tilt the camera's so you cannot see the lines, both Summit and Pine. Deception at its best.
-We do not have staffing
--You had enough people to run most of the chairs just a week ago. It is managements job to staff, and they were letting people go. If Summit does not run because of breakage, or weather, move the crew to one of the other chairs.
They promote the spring pass, yet do nothing to fulfill the "fun" they promote. They close the parking and all services at Sunrise base, one of the two lifts open, so all the customers can hike the parking lot at West Village. They do not even open the bathrooms at the Sunrise base lodge, so you cannot even take a "Mt Bachelor" in the rest room. Two Jokes, that one, and the other is Mt. Bachelor. It is not a laughing matter, but Ha Ha.May 3, 2022Previous reviewWelcome to the summit season at Mt Broken. Beautiful day with light winds, 3 inches of new and a huge crowd. Only open lift up the mountain is Pine Martin, with a huge line which never went away for hours. With a very full parking lot, they only run Pine Martin lift and do not let you park at Sunrise which would help the line. NO CONCERN FOR THE CUSTOMER, ONLY WANT TO SAVE THE COST OF OPENING THE BATHROOMS AND PARKING AT SUNRISE FOR A DAY. They advertise Red will run depending on demand, and what would be wrong with Cloud or Outback, or Northwest to give the crowd a decent ski experience for the day?? Summit, the only lift to the top did not open for hours. No Wind to blame it on, had daylight for at least five hours for avalanche control, yet no go. They must figure it does not matter because it is broken and only runs at half speed anyway. They spend millions on building snow features which get very little use , but cannot even maintain or fix the lifts that break. What a JOKE. Lucky they are the only game in town or they would have no customers. Seems like they owe the passholders; for no Skyliner for most of the year, a broken Summit for most of the year, half of Cloud Chaser closed for the month of April, no additional grooming on pine while it is the only way up the mountain, and no control for out of control fools. They have all your pass money, and could care less.
Mar 25, 2021Previous reviewHeading up to Mt. Bachelor in the AM. Lift status showed no problems. Report was 6 inches new with cold temps. Arrived to find most of the major chairs closed for wind. The wind was high all night and still blowing, so why did the early morning show all chairs except Summit as expected? The 6 inches way a lie! Might of had 2" which drifted into the hollows as maybe 4 to be generous. Got in line at sunrise. Just as we went thru the turnstiles, it was announced to the big crowd that Cloud Chaser was open, and website confirmed it. Went to Cloud and waited for 50 minutes for it to open. This is unacceptable customer service. This place is a joke. They get a couple inches and cannot get the chairs open on time! WOW, thought is was a ski area. By noon, the wind was no longer an issue however the North West chair was running real slow. The wind never blew on the 20 minute ride up. It appears there is no management at all. Do not waste your money at this place.
Feb 8, 2020Previous reviewFunny how you can groom the board park to look like a carpet tree to tree, but can't groom the runs for the skiers! I think I've seen Tippy toe groomed twice in the last two years! Also, 5 to 15 workers with rakes etc. in the park to make every feature just right but you can't get the chairs de-iced after 2 days! It will be interesting tomorrow on a forecasted blue bird sunny day to see if Bachelor can pull it off. A 'big' mountain would have all the lifts cleaned off and running by 9:00 am and ready for their costumers. It is now 24 hours without any additional weather causing icing, and will be about 40 hours at opening time tomorrow(plenty of time to de-ice). As the first nice day after cold new snow there will be a big crowd. Will the Cloud, Outback, Northwest West and Summit chairs be ready or will they be closed like today? My money is with none of those lower lifts open until late in the day and summit not at all, Big lines, excuses about the ice storm 3 days ago and a very poor skier experience! If your planning a nice vacation, go to a real big mountain ski resort.
Jan 26, 2020Previous reviewParked at the Skyliner lift and it was not snowing. Chair had been open a half hour and running before opening. Five employees in blue jackets working at the lift. One guy pounding the Ice and snow off the chair seats by himself and could not clean the seats before customers sat down on the inch thick chunks of snow and ice. One guy standing and watching. Three more drinking coffee and talking to themselves out by the turnstile. No line to deal with. I asked the guy standing there where his broom was? Gave me a smart ass answer like "Its just snow". It is pretty simple. Get the chair operational with clean seats, ready for the customers. No management at this mountain. It was the same story for many days before at the same lift. This time I went over to guest services in West Village and asked for a complaint form. They do not have any. Guy asked me what MY problem was. I told him, and he says sorry about that. Was just lip service. Says I can go on line, so here it is. Your paying employees to do nothing. Fire your lift manager and hire one who can supervise an employee.
Mar 12, 2019Previous reviewMt Bachelor is a beautiful ski area with awesome views of the Three Sisters mountains, but alas the the daily running of this resort is very disappointing! Please do not take your family and kids to this area it is not safe! It's a flat mountain at the base and mostly boarders feel the need to go warp speed to make the lift even at your expense almost knocking you over (one brushed my shoulder coming from behind the other day)! There is not enough staff for weekends to serve food (lines are huge), the bathrooms are dirty with no Kleenex (really!), no water glasses in the lodge, the snowboarders are out of control, drinking beer in line, on the chair, in the parking lot, drunk everywhere, doing jumps on the get back trails in high traffic, peeing in the parking lot, yellow snow everywhere gross! Oh and don't get me started on the big dogs pooping everywhere with owners that don't pick up after them! They can't keep the mountain open on powder days( hello it's a ski resort)! Ski patrol not addressing safety issues with snowboards jumping over Summit crossover trail (from Skyliner lift) onto the run above the boarding park, almost got taken out here several times! I have a friend who got taken out last week! Management put up a SMALL fence which they just go around or use as an obstacle to jump over! What a joke! I've complained at least 4 or 5 times, falls on deaf ears! If you go to Mt. Bachelor better be looking over your shoulder! Skier experience sadly to say is diminishing on Mt. Bachelor:-(
