We had a leaking toilet at the job and called Mr. Rooter. They said someone would be out within 2 hours. Their guys showed up in 20 minutes. The job was DONE in less than 2 hours! On top of that the guys adjusted another toilet (to conserve water) and addressed another issue while here. P.S. Price was very reasonable too! Thanks Mr. Rooter :)

Jimmy, Luis, Orlan and Vito just completed an amazing job replacing a 90 year old sewer lateral at my home. I had three separate lines that had to tie in, not an easy job but they got it done quickly and patched everything up like before.
The communication with Jimmy was easy, clear and quick - I got the quote fast and once I got scheduled things happened like clockwork.
Thank you to the team for making this somewhat stressful project very seamless and pain free! And we passed inspection quickly and easily - all moved very fast!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

My folks have been calling Mr. Rooter and the Ferguson family for years for all their plumbing needs. New toilet? No problem!
Last year's visit was to replace the shower handles so they didn't have to use pliers/valve attached to the shower head. Maybe some of you grew up like I did with pliers in the shower? I felt my parents deserved real, working hot and cold handles. After contacting Spencer and the team, they did a fantastic job going in through the back of the tile (linen closet behind the bathroom) to replace the handles. $2467.50 Wow, what a treat when I stay with them now!
The visit this week was a short list of projects - worked with Erika to schedule the technician - repair or replace the bathroom sink handles and sink stopper, replace kitchen sink drain and run a water pipe from the kitchen sink to where my Dad's dream refrigerator will go. (with ice and water!!) $1247.47 and my Dad is very happy with the results.
Next will probably be replacing the bathtub drain. Didn't notice how bad it was until I uploaded these pictures!Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

I recently needed repairs to two showers that required replacement temperature cartridges and valve stems. Although these particular parts were unique and difficult to find, Mr Rooter was able to locate a supplier; and the repairs were successfully completed. It was a pleasure working with Carlos, Spencer, and Diana at Mr Rooter. They kept me informed throughout the process; and their professionalism and perseverance were most appreciated.

What a headache for a landlord.
You have to call an office, ask them to call your tenant to set an appointment. They called but no one answers random numbers these days anymore, but the office doesn't text for communication.
Somehow they set the appointment for 8am but the automatic alert text system got her number wrong, she never gets the alerts that plumber is on the way, she waits all morning and leaves the house before plumber actually shows.
I wanted their plumbing fixed since Monday. They spent all day calling (because no text). Tuesday finally get an appointment for Wednesday. Wednesday they get her phone number wrong.
3 days of plumbing problems not fixed because of communication difficulty smh.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Annie
I am so sorry if there was communication issues.
This is definitely not our standard protocol and I would like to follow up on this immediately so I can address this with my staff.
Can you give me a call so I can get the details on this job? Or you can text me :)

UPDATE: Today, nearly a year later, I happened to open the hatch that houses the pump, and was delighted to find my long-lost bucket hidden deep under the floorboards. José must have left it there while he was working and then inadvertently left it there when he sealed up the hatch.
Apologies to José for having suspected a less innocent explanation.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Apr 1, 2021Previous reviewI rarely assign anything but 1 or 5 stars. If a provider is truly outstanding or entirely unacceptable, I feel that others have a right to know. If service or performance are merely mediocre, I usually don't review at all. It could be an excellent professional having a bad day, or it could be the opposite -- a substandard provider who happened to do a decent job.
In this case, I have to make an exception. The technical service I received from José at Mr. Rooter Plumbing of the Oakland-Berkeley area was superior, but the cost and related issues seemed very unreasonable and potentially unethical. I'm going to assume that this was a case of an efficient, highly qualified plumber working for a potentially unscrupulous company. I have no other explanation for what happened.
On Sunday I had the misfortune of accidentally flushing a rag down my basement toilet. (I had been washing my car and I emptied a bucket of sudsy, dirty water down the toilet, not realizing that the rag was still in the bucket.) After I saw the rag go down, I flushed the toilet repeatedly to see whether the pump was still functional. The upflush pump had not engaged and the water stopped flushing down, confirming my suspicion that the rag had lodged inside the pump.
I called Mr. Rooter Plumbing of the Oakland-Berkeley area and was transferred to what was apparently a national Mr. Rooter center. To their credit, they had a technician less than two miles away. He called me within three minutes and was actually at my house in less than ten. This is extraordinary, and deserves credit.
José was respectful, highly professional, and clearly knowledgeable. I explained the situation and he immediately set about calculating an estimate. To my great surprise, it came to $467.94. I don't know on what basis he reached this figure; the line-item on the estimate was simply "Check sewage pump for proper operation."
As I had little choice, I accepted the estimate. (My home office cannot function without a working shower, sink, and toilet.) José immediately set about working. He asked me to lend him a bucket -- I found it odd that a plumber would not have one -- but I was happy to do so.
Less than half an hour later, he called me into the bathroom and with a flourish, removed the errant rag from the pump. This, too, is exemplary, and I give him full credit for his quick, effective work. José then set about re-assembling the drain lines onto the pump. This seemingly simple portion of the job took him well over an hour, and he didn't seem to be doing much during this time. But I was not concerned about the time, because I had agree to a fixed price.
I eventually heard José flush the toilet a few times and heard the pump engage. He told me he was finished, I paid the invoice through his terminal, and he gathered his equipment and left.
José's service and performance were exemplary. I feel extremely uncomfortable, however, with the rate charged to me for this job. (I realize that this pricing is a corporate issue at not at all José's fault.) This is the third or fourth time I have had to have the upflush pump serviced by various providers -- in one case it was completely replaced! -- and I do not recall ever being charged more than $300 or $350.
There were no materials involved in the cost of this repair. Home Advisor (https://www.homeadvisor.com/cost/plumbing/repair-a-toilet/) states that "repairing a toilet" should cost an average of $250. "Extensive clogs [that] require dismantling the fixture or snaking the drain" are quoted at $150 to $300. The hourly rate quoted on that site is "anywhere between $45 and $150." José worked for about 20 minutes to get the rag out, and then, inexplicably, more than an hour to close up and finish. (Could he have been taking his time to justify his employer's charge?)
As an additional sanity check: I recently had two downspouts removed and replaced outside my house. There were TWO workmen, they both had to work together on two separate days at about 4 hours each time, and the total charge was $190 including materials. So I cannot help feeling that Mr. Rooter's charge of nearly $500 for a two-hour job that could well have been quicker, was exorbitant and potentially predatory.
As a final point of dissatisfaction, I noticed shortly after José left that my bucket -- a white-enameled vintage bucket that cost about $20.00 -- had "vanished." I can't definitively blame anyone for this; it's theoretically possible that someone could have come into my backyard and stolen it during that hour, although my office door faces the yard and no one in my block has ever had an intruder in their yard in the twenty years I've been living here. I called José, and he assured me he didn't have it. (If a workman borrows something from a customer, it is customary to specifically return it and say "Here is your bucket." José did not do this. - Mona H.San Francisco, CA02Dec 11, 2023
I am writing to congratulate the two Mr. Rooter plumbers, Alex and Billy Ferguson, who came to move my water heater from under the house to a new location. They were reliable, hardworking and pleasant. They worked long hours from 10 AM to 5:00 PM and stayed calm and upbeat throughout the job. Thank you, Mr. Rooter! You're the best!

I would not recommend Mr. Rooter Plumbing or use it again.'I found out that their service person wanted to charge my husband $745
Off the top and before any diagnostic for services without knowing what he was charging us for. I asked him directly how much he charges an hour . He said $264. Then later said he didn't charge by the hour but by the job. All very inconsistent information.
When the job was done ( unplugging a plugged outdoor drain) he wanted to charge me
For three hours which would total around $745.
But he didn't render service for almost three hours. When I pointed that out he said he was in his truck trying to get me a quote in case we wanted to replace the drain. He was in his truck for over half hour.
I've never heard
Of charging a customer to talk to your boss on the phone on how much to charge a customer to replace a pipe. He came back with a quote for 19k . Completely outrageous and unprofessional from start to end; certainly re pricing. Then he came to ask for payment he stuck to 745. When I asked why he said well
It's by the job and depends on equipment we use. So now it s about the equipment too? What? He used a camera as they almost always do as well as a snake. None of this transaction seemed right to me. Very disappointing And overcharged me by about at least 200 bucks. Money doesn't grow on trees!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
