We wanted to see some well known landmarks while visiting Pittsburgh. This incline car is pretty cool. It's near Station square and has lots of cute shops and places to eat. We enjoyed the views and the ease of parking nearby. It's self pay and the prices are minimal.

Short ride up and down Mt. Washington. Great views of Pittsburgh from the top point and a quick way to get to the bottom. There were commuters and tourists when we rode.
The person at the top station was very helpful as we were buying tickets - there's an unlimited 3 hour option for all of Pittsburgh's public transit for only $2.75. So that covered our round trip and also worked at the Duquesne Incline.
At the top there's cheap or free street parking as well as cute shops and eateries. We started at the top and ended up eating lunch at the bottom before returning then doing the other incline (all within the 3 hour ticket).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 7253801480Jul 30, 2023
While visiting Pittsburgh, I was told that the incline is one of those things you gotta do. We opted for the Monogahela Incline and my feelings are sort of mixed. In terms of the positives, the cityscape views are pretty nice once you get to the top and the cost of the ride is only around $3 per person. As for the negatives, we went on a blistering hot day and because the there's no AC in the lift, the ride up was quite uncomfortable. Also, there's really not much to do once you get up to the top. We took some photos and checked out a nearby ice-cream shop, but that was pretty much it.

I recently went on the Mon incline for the first time and it was amazing! I loved how the setup and configuration was totally different than the Duquesne incline. It was a little confusing coming in and having to buy tickets via a machine especially when online says you need to bring cash. There was no attendant to take our tickets either (it was a Sunday afternoon). Aside from this, it was a smooth ride up and down the mountain and the views (and the ride) are always worth it.

Super cool experience. Very close to Station Square. So if you're already parked there, just kill 2 birds with one stone. $2.75 for a round trip per person. Great opportunity for excellent views of the city.

This is the less well-known but totally endearing mini-size Pittsburgh incline tram. Costs nearly nothing - $2 one way? Starts off r-e-a-l-l-y slow. Speeds up a tad in the middle of ride. Great view at the observation deck overlook built out at the nearby intersection at the top. Sort of small neighborhood of bars, pubs, ice cream shops, et al within 1-2 block walk at top. Reminds a lot of North Beach area of SF. Def worth an hour or an afternoon. Nice!

Really enjoyed this quick & scenic journey to the top.
Cannot believe this incline has been around for 200 years!!!
It was $2.75 for a day pass (or something like that).
The ride just took a few minutes and trains might come as often as every 4 minutes.
Definitely worth doing if you're in town.
Have fun!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 19, 2021
This incline is smoother, steeper and shorter than the Duquesne Incline.
They take credit cards at the kiosk by the entrance and the cable-cars are a better design than the Duquesne.
Truly recommend this one better if you only get to do one, and from tue top and from the lower stations, there are shops and restaurants within walking distance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stacey V.Arlington, VA28363Jul 9, 2023
Who would've thought that a highlight of our trip to Pittsburgh would be a funicular ride? But it was so integral to the development of the city, and there's a lot of historical context provided at the station.
We were especially grateful for the reviews on this site that recommended we park at the top station. There is pretty ample street parking for at least an hour, and some of it unzoned, whereas parking at the bottom of the incline is a development that seems to be a tourist trap.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 31, 2021
Move people thru pretty quick for the short ride up and down. I'd recommend going early afternoon to be able to explore the neighborhood at the top. Lots of shops and restaurants for lunch. Great views of the Pitt skyline. Really cheap $3.50 round trip.
