Worst hair cut i have ever gotten. hands down.
i felt like it was an inconvenience for me to be getting a hair cut from her. she didnt know what she was doing and cut a huge chunk from the front of my hair!
please never go hereHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Shayna W.Phoenix, AZ73207132Dec 22, 2010First to Review
This place saved my life and sanity. I made the huge mistake of going to this horrible and terrible salon called Visual Impact Salon in Scottsdale. The person who did my hair was a nightmare. My first time getting extensions and of course I didn't know what to do. I trusted the stylist and shouldn't have. She put straight hair in wavy hair, she did colors that she swore matched my hair and they didn't. The cut was wrong, beads were falling out and the salon and manager were blaming me!!!
By the time I made it to Modern Hair Junkie I was crying daily as I watched my extensions fall out daily, making it to 100 pieces that came out in TWO WEEKS!!! Thankfully Modern Hair Junkie was able to fix it, taking out all the ratty extensions that were also horribly placed in at unusual places.
My hair was also terribly dry from the blow out the other salon did, too bad the stylist had no clue what she was doing then either. MHJ was able to fix the dryness, the bad extensions, and made my hair look good again.
I suggest you STEER CLEAR of VISUAL IMPACT SALON and their so called stylist Rachel Reedy. GO TO MODER HAIR JUNKIE, not only did they do an amazing job, they were friendly, extremely funny, and it was a great atmosphere like family there. If the trauma ever wears off from what Visual Impact's Rachel Reedy did to me, then I'll get extensions again by this Salon for sure. They've got me as a client for life.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mai S.Gilbert, AZ65378Jan 20, 2011Updated review
So, I didn't realize that businesses can go in and remove bad reviews about their business on their own. Apparently, that's what the owner of Modern Hair Junkie did so these great reviews of yelp doesn't reflect negative reviews so don't be fooled. If you are looking for a clean and serene salon to go to stay away. This is not up to par to what Scottsdale have to offer. I will repost my review for you to actually make an informed decision and not be tricked by reviews that may well be from the owner herself. But don't take my word for it only, go see for yourself. Just do not give this salon your credit card information, NO MATTER WHAT. You will regret what you will have to go to get charges removed from your card when services was NEVER performed.
Then the owner had the nerve to bribe me with the refund off my credit card if I would remove the negative review myself of her salon for her so that she can maintain her good reviews. SHADY.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Modern Hair Junkie isn't the salon for everyone in Scottsdale. We are full or fun, laughter, drinks and jokes. Some people just don't know how to let their hair down and have fun.
As for this clients review...she fails to tell everyone that she was told the $200 she is so complaining about is for the cost of her hair and to hold her appointment slot. This client had her assistant call into the salon three times and reschedule her appointment (hence I lost money those three days cause I book out most of it for a hair extension client) and the day of her fourth scheduled appointment she calls and cancels (an hour before) and demands her $200 back. I told her that the $200 was used for the purchase of her hair and that I wasn't able to get a refund for the hair cost, that she could come and pick up her hair.
She has since bashed us her on Yelp and contacted my credit card company demanding her money back. I had offered to return the money to her and asked her to remove the horrible review. Didn't bribe her, just asked her kindly to remove the ignorant post or atleast tell the truth.
My established clients adore my salon...it's upbeat, personable and TONS OF FUN.Dec 24, 2010Previous reviewI found this place off of a craigslist ad because I was looking for a personable and affordable place to re-attach my hair extension. Modern Hair Junkie seemed to specialize in cutting and styling hair after the extension. When I went there, it was a small place in old town and resemble walking into a tattoo shop. Not what I expected at all. Then the owner, Manae, seemed to be like a strung out jittery druggy coughing and hacking as she talks to me.
She spent more time bad mouthing Ashley Extension then on my consultation. All this and I still didn't follow my gut instinct to run and find some place professional. I was told that I need to pay for a $200 deposit which was the fee for the extension. Gave her my old hair to use for the extension because she said she had to get it ready. Well, two days later my mom died and I had my assistant call to reschedule my appointment. Long story short, after all that had happened with my mother's death, I couldn't go through with the appointment and just wasn't up to it so had my assistant call to explain and to just cancel the appointment and asked for the credit on my credit card. Keep in mind, there are nothing that says that my deposit would not be refunded anywhere either on their website or in their store.
Instead, Manae, just yelled on the phone at us and that my money was used to buy new hair extension, which she wanted to charge me $180 a pack so I declined and only wanted to use my old ones. This she claimed is the wholesale price she would charge me. I paid $175 for two packs from Ashley so I knew she was lying and didn't want to buy it. Then Manae just yelled that she was not going to deal with it and just hung up the phone on us. Again, pretty professional for an owner to take your money for not providing services at all. Maybe she is as talented as her ad claims and other yelpers claim but I will never find out. I really question whether these other yelpers are real since the date are so close to each other and there are no prior yelp reviews of this business. - Sarah G.Scottsdale, AZ3721Apr 3, 2015
My current stylist is on pregnancy leave so I was given a recommendation to check this place out by a friend. Clean stylish salon, no problem to get scheduled in, The stylist was friendly and I could tell she is a perfectionist at what she does which I very much appreciate. Would go back if my regular stylist was unavailable again.

I got a spray tan here from the owner, Manae for Halloween and not only was it awesome, affordable and quick but I had a blast! I would def recommend her to anyone who is looking for a quick and inexpensive spray. I have a crazy work schedule but she was very accommodating fitting me in past 7 PM and even gave me a glass of wine. Her spray set up isn't super fancy but she did a great job and the spray was good quality so my tan looked natural. Plus she is hilarious so it was more like hanging out with a friend than getting sprayed by a total stranger. She gives discounts on spray packages and gives one free once you purchase ten but at $20 a spray I will keep coming back even without the special discounts!

Worst hair extensions I've ever gotten. I've been getting great lengths hair extensions for 10 years and tried to switch because Manae convinced me that I was only paying for the "name brand". Big mistake. She damaged my hair so badly and all of the extensions fell out within a month. The hair looked fake and felt fake. It was horrible. This is all aside from the fact that Manae kept taking "smoke breaks" and going outside to smoke. She was completely unprofessional and bashed other hair stylists around the valley. Please save your money and go elsewhere and pay more for a quality product and service.

Anyone can write a review and bash a salon. I have tons of extension clients and all that have recieved them have never written a bad review and come back everytime (unless their budget prohibits them from doing so). Our salon has over 20 5 star reviews for our extension work; but, they are the ones that always seem to get filtered since I stopped paying $550 a month to advertise with YELP. This site is rediculous and anyone can slander any business in the area without ever stepping foot into it and receiving their service. I'm contacting my lawyer to see what can be done.
One more thing...I have been bashing unlincensed people doing extension work in the valley on other sites. They are doing the hair extension world a horrible injustice and if negative reviews is their way at getting me back for letting the truths be known...so be it! I will continue let the public know what is going on.

After debating writing a review I've decided it's time. A month ago I contacted the number listed. This is not a salon anymore. Menae did my hair at her house which I was fine with. Her assistant removed my weave. I spoke with menae extensively about what I wanted : to go from a dark brown to a cranberry red color. My hair was chest length. Over the next six plus hours menae worked on my hair. I understand (and so did she) that my hair was going to be different colors because of re growth and the hair in my weave not being colored in a while. Shhe assured me it would not take much and that she was "fearless with bleach" she really convinced me it wouldn't be a difficult task or too bad on my hair. I spoke with other stylist who told me the same. But she convinced me she knew what she was doing. After her "fearless" bleaching, my hair was very light, like a cream yellow. Then she put color over that. Then she toned that. Then she toned again. By the end of this process, the top portion of my hair was about two inches long. I had her cut the length into a bob to try and camouflage the short hair on the top of my head. I left with bright orange hair. The next day I washed my hair. It instantly curled up on the ends (my hair is straight) and turned various shades of blue green and gray. I went to her house to have her correct it, and she toned it again. It still looked hideous. I had to dye it again from a professional and get a weave put in again. After the escapade, my hair is about one inch on top. To put icing on the cake, I had bought product from her which when I got home to use it realized it was either gone, half gone, broken nozzle, or Pantene pro v in a biolage bottle. Please save yourself. Do not call her.

Dont believe her lies. I do not work in the hair industry by any means. I guess some people will do anything / say anything to avoid the truth...its just sad when the dishonest individual is a business owner. The damage this woman caused to my hair is unforgetable...but whats worse than that is how unprofessional she is and how she did absolutely nothing to correct the situation. She remembers exactly who I am, as well as the incident because for a while she would just have her daughter answer my phone calls...that was until she turned the salon phone off all together. Either way if you get your hair done here, its like taking your life in your hands.

Getting to the point that I hate the Yelp site...anybody (even the competition) can come on this site and write whatever they want about a business...whether it is true or false. In this case, this is not a true incident. I would never allow a client to walk out of my salon with spotted different color hair and would never allow a customer leave unhappy. As for the lighting at Modern Hair Junkie...it's toooooooo bright at times.
I'm about to contact my lawyer and see what can be done about these reviews. How did salons survive or not survive when there was no internet?Apr 16, 2011Previous reviewI went into modern hair junkie just looking to have my roots touched up and my end trimmed. I had blonde highlights and my hair had finally grown out to the length i wanted for years. Manae (the owner) tried to convince me to dye my hair red but i insisted all i wanted was a partial highlight to touch up the regrowth. During my visit at the salon, i was given glasses upon glasses of wine. Finally after 3 hours in the dark salon, my hair was finished. When i got home and went into my bathroom, I was shocked with the way my hair looked. Instead of weaving in blonde highlights, she painted entire strips orange. I had patches and strands that were 4 different colors. I still had 4 inch roots in a lot of areas, whereas other areas of my hair were spotted. On top of everything she cut about 5 inches off of my hair ( i guess by trim, she thought i meant give me a bob). I called for days trying to have someone fix my hair, eventually she just hung up on me and turned the salon phone off. I contacted the Arizona State Board Of Cosmetology and everyone i could to warn them of this place. Anyone can do hair extensions without going to beauty school...she has no idea what she is doing nor does she have any remorse when she ruins your hair. That was 5 months ago...i have paid over $700 and countless salon visits to fix my hair color. She ruined my hair with bleach and she could ruin yours too. This place needs to be shut down. Im sure she will probably delete this comment, but if it saves one person then thats enough. Do not try to save money, just go to a decent salon!! I would like to thank Moodswings on Mill Ave for returning my hair to a natural, even look. This place is seriously a joke

Well first of all, I went in to what appears to be a professional setting. And, no cosmetology license anywhere to have been seen, RED flag number 1. Then, it was obvious she was drunk and high and so were her "friends" in the so called "Salon" also, on a side not, she has an ad on Suggardaddy.com, not cute for a business owner. She was extemely in appropriate the whole time, obviously very inexperienced in doing extensions, she added way too much hair, and then I saw her take hair out of white trash bags and use them on me. It didnt dawn on me till later, THEY were someone elses old hair! Which she charged way too much for! That explains why she wants you to always use new hair, she takes your old ones and re sells them! Very shaady! Dont make the mistake I made by going there.
