I love Mimi's. I think the food is worth the price... not super cheap, but definitely affordable and worth it. I love the diverse options on the menu.. and I love the bread basket that comes out to each table (mmm carrot loaf).
Now they have a super $12.99 three-course deal for dinner. You can get soup/salad/mini appetizer + entree (i LOVE the butternut squash ravioli. The same thing would cost an icky $18+ at a fancy schmancy italian place) + dessert.
Yum. Service can be slow, but the staff is generally friendly.
Its so hard to find a good place for breakfast. Mimi's gets an A+++. My family & I live in Simi Valley and we pass all the IHOPS and Dennys to make our way to Hot coffee, great food & good service.
the muffins.......the apple cobbler......... is it breakfast time yet? oh I could live on those muffins......
I love Mimi's, now there's a place I recommend. The atmosphere, the ambiance, the service, the food, everything is super--I think. And it hasn't got the prices of whatever -it's priced well and worth every penny that you spend there.
Their date-nut muffins are served with every meal, and those are wonderful, well enough that you go the bakery and you buy some to take home.
The people who work there are very, very nice and put up with my husband and I splitting our meal, ordering hot water with lemon and needing extra Sweet N Low all the time.
But the most interesting things about Mimi's isn't the food or the staff or the muffins, it's the decor. Yes, the whole place is cute, but the cutest thing is that in the men's bathroom there's a very interesting painting of a black man--are you allowed to say that?--in a bathtub smoking a cigar, and being so relaxed and feeling that the world is his oyster. I haven't seen it, but I've heard all about it. Well, okay, I did see it--but just from the doorway for a second. Anyway, my husband LOVES it, and if I could I would buy a copy of that painting and hang it in my living room to make him happy. It wouldn't bother me that he found it in a bathroom. Some wonderful stuff comes out of bathrooms!
So if you know what painting I'm talking about, and know where we can get a copy, please send me a note. Until then, we'll enjoy it in our memories, as we have moved away from Ventura County, and although I know it is a chain, this was OUR Mimi's.
I liked it. The service was good. The whole atmosphere to the restaurant was cozy, a nice place to stop by and eat at if you're in the neighborhood. I certainly would not recommend driving out of your way to experience...it was not bad by any means, but at the same time, there was nothing special about it prompting any special attention. If you want a 5 course meal: salad, soup, appetizer, entree, and dessert for $20.00 you will not be disappointed. Bon Appetite. ( :
I have to review this place simply because I worked here, and therefor it holds a special place in my heart.
Perhaps when you live in Thousand Oaks this is one of your only choices for a reasonably priced meal for the whole family. Though my family never bothered coming here and for good reason.
There are two things that I can say I truly miss from this place, and they are the only two things worth ordering. I mean let's be honest...those 3 egg omelets (if they are even made out of real egg) are disgusting and the place just smells bad. Anyhow, the spinach artichoke dip, and the chocolate pecan pie are hands down the only reason to visit Mimi's.
Oh, and if you're a family who lugs your 3 demon children over and allow them to throw food all over the floor, you're supposed to tip extra not less. Just because your waitress is friendly and says your kid is sweet doesn't mean your presence is tip enough. Seriously, patrons of this place should be ashamed of themselves...on more levels than one.
I love coming here for breakfast with my girlfriends after a sleep over party. (great, I sound like I'm 15 all over again!) =)
My favs: belgian waffles, eggs benedict, cappuccino topped with whipped cream.
If you're planning to have breakfast here on Sundays, try coming a little earlier before the crowd gets out from churches.
We stopped going to Mimi's for breakfast about 6 mos ago because it had gone way down hill. Today, I became a fan again. The wait was short, the service was good and the food came out perfect.
$25 (w/ tip) for my wife, daughter and me!
The only time I go to Mimi's is with my fiance's family during breakfast, since I used to think I didn't like it. I don't know what was was wrong with my head, but the breakfast food was great! (It helped that there was NO LINE!) Next time I'm at their house, I'm getting up really early to get ready and I'm going to drop little hints about how delicious Mimi's brunch is.
New Orleans/Cajun vibe...though as my brother kindly suggests, Mimi's Cafe needs an update to what the present New Orleans, Louisiana looks like. Ouch.
That aside, service is typically prompt and friendly. The servers help each other out.
The food is very reasonably priced, you really get your money's worth. With most things on the menu, you can also get/subsitute a side of salad, soup, fries, mashed potatoes, or /and fruit. This is all apart from the endless refills some drink (ie lemonade) and from the yummy bread they start you off with.
It's not the most glamorous of places, but it's certainly cozy and dependable. Friendly, family-oriented atmosphere- great for small or large groups.
This place made a really good first impression on me and I have been back a few times within a short period of time. I really like the french country style look to the place and the type of the wholesome people it seems to attract.
It all depends on what you like, but if you happen to like spinach and artichoke dip... Try it here!
Also, if you are still eating red meat in todays health-obsessed and taste deprived society, get the French Quarter Sandwich. Its pretty tasty :)
I always seem to have a wicked hangover when I come here for breakfast, so maybe all my negative feelings are by association.
The food and service is solid and reliable; occasionaly there's a wait for a table but it doesn't get too crazy. Mostly, the food is good, of the comfort-food with a french twist variety. You gotta love a place that has mimosas on the breakfast menu if you feel like getting right back on that horse.
The 4 stars are exclusively for the CORNED BEEF HASH... made fresh and totally unbeatable. order your eggs runny and mix it all up for an orgasmic experience. Oh those were the days... not only did i have a job but i would skip the job to stuff my face with hash and sing Frere Jacques (there's a poster there...).
....and it's CHEAP!
I was in CA for about two weeks on business and Mimi's cafe was pretty close to where I was working. My co-workers and I must've gone to this restaurant about 3x a week. The waitresses and staff here are SO SWEET! We all seemed to have all these odd requests regarding our orders and the waitresses always told us that our requests were 'never a problem'!
The food here is great, too! My personal fav was the 1/2 salad, 1/2 soup deal. Just the right amount of food. Oh, and I def suggest getting one of their muffins! ;)
Shocking! a delicious reasonably priced breakfast, with really good orange juice (upgrade to a large for an extra buck, and I do mean large) and good service. No more $12.00 breakfasts for me.
This is an french, american, coffee restaurant w/ everything, they have a good variety of food. Though this place can get very crowded so if you can make reservations I would. The service is decent and the inside is decorated very cute, it's homey. They have tasty blueberry muffins, and i really like the 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 soup combo for about $7 dollars, it's good and they have good soups; french onion soup (has TONS of onions in it, corn chowder etc. They have a really good wok fried teriyaki bowl, fresh quesadila. Not the best place, I've never gone here and have been wowed by anything but it's a decent place. I wouldn't suggest breakfast though they have really good potatoes but their selection is not fantastic, i rather go to I-hop.
IMO the best place in Thousand Oaks for breakfast. Yummy eggs, hash, pancakes and omelets. You really can't go wrong.
This is a great place for a good country breakfast. Their lunch items are pretty good as well.
