Such a beautiful long beach, over 4 miles with so much public playground. This is where the Indiana Dunes National Park begins, but it's never crowded.

The most beautiful beach close to Chicago
This little town is part of Gary but looks like small key west style town

I grew up in this neighborhood and lived just 5 blocks from this beach.
I had many fond memories growing up here and enjoy revisiting when I go back to visit family & friends.
This is wonderful beach and is rarely crowded.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Denica W.Kankakee, IL56294Aug 14, 2019

I stayed at Villa Santorini. When we turned on the block, I immediately felt frightened because the surroundings were horrible. As we approached the house and I looked at the exterior of the villa, I said, we are turning around and going back home.
When I pulled into the back, and went into the house, I said, okay, the inside of the house does not look bad; so let's stay.
The pictures on the website are misleading because the interior is not as spacious/roomy as the pictures make the rooms appear. The workers did not clean the place as they should have prior to our arrival. When we wiped down things, there was too much visible dirt. There were quite a few things that did not work properly like the showers and televisions. There are several bugs on the property. It would really help if they cut the weeds that they have allowed to grow all over the place. The path that leads down to the beach is horrible because of the amount of weed along the way. It would be helpful to have more Garbage cans available considering there were 23 of us in the house. It was also scary to find another set of guest living in the villa. We did not know that there was an attachment so we thought the people were intruders. Some of the wood on the stairs are not secured. There is a leak in the corner of the round room.
I do not understand how you can provide living space for 30 people but limit the parking to four cars. Do the math; can 30 people fit in four cars?
Villa Santorini is a fairly nice place but if the owners do not quickly do some repairs and weed maintenance, they are going to run into some problems.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gail S.Riverside, IL03816May 11, 2017
A friend introduced us to this little know gem with a thriving arts district! Just a short distance from Chicago, it was an easy day trip and we loved the creative energy in the little downtown area. We will be back!!

I love Miller. This weekend we went out to stay out at a friend's beach house to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The Gary Air Show was happening, so it was a bit more crowded than I am used to. But, it is a homey little area, nestled into the dunes. Very happily situated and the beaches are so clean, we had a lot of fun walking them and craning our necks to watch the planes. If you've never stopped in Miller, I highly suggest it. After years of traversing Indiana in order to get to a lake house in Michigan, it is high time I stopped and just enjoyed what is so much closer.

I like the Dunes. It is a forested-in beach in Northwest Indiana. That means it's close enough to get to for a day trip, but far enough and off the road enough to be like a nice vacation spot. It gets nice and warm during the summer, but the water stays calm, just like a lake should be. I went here myself to scope it out at first and later in the summer took my roommates. Funny thing is that while we were frolicking in the water, we turned around and saw the giant nuclear cooling tower. Yay ionizing radiation leakage!

Miller Beach is the best kept secret from most Chicagoans. I totally fell in love with the beautiful beaches and diverse ecosystems and people.

I grew up one block from Lake Michigan, it was a great place to grow up. I have great memories of palying on Blueberry hill & at the beach. I am glad to see Miller is still surviving.
